I am a straight, white, Christian woman who attends a Christian church in Canada that not only accepts, but embraces GLBT folks! We're not a "gay" church but have made a public welcome to GLBT folks. If we can do it, I'm sure you can too. Look up "progressive Christianity" on the Internet and learn!
Therefore, it would be stupid for God to say to a gay man do not lie with a man as you do with a woman WHEN a gay man doesn't lie with a woman to begin with. This clearly shows that God was speaking to heterosexual men AND NOT ONLY straight men BUT those who are married. WHY? Because under the Jewish Law, a man is not permitted to have sex with a woman UNLESS they are married, and the scripture clearly says 'As you lie with your woman' INDICATING that those men have women(wives) to begin with!

Please don't compare concentual sex between two adults to what is legally and most often factually the rape of unconcenting children, or you are probably going to have to ask why heterosexuals are not thrown in prison for their 'lifestyle'.
We had to place the age of concent somewhere. Is it too high/old? ... some may say yes, but I think its reasonable.
Why do we need an age of consent? Rape means sexual assault, sex by force. But when two people decide to have sex, and neither does anything the other does not want to do, how can that be rape? What does it matter what age they are? Why not just ask the child, did they want to do what they did? If the child or the parent feels they've been taken advantage of, let them decide on an appropriate penalty. That's the way it used to be done, back before the Great Panic of 1977-present.
The AoC in the US was 7-12 in 1880, and was only raised to prevent child prostitution, NOT to keep children from having sex. Parents could still give permission. Parental discretion was later taken away in favor of a blanket prohibition, claiming that sex was somehow harmful to anyone below an arbitrary age, though I don't think there's any scientific basis to that.

What is your response to the Bible verse which reads:
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." I have to question the commitment of anybody who calls themselves a Christian and yet does that which God hates.
My initial response is to ask you to do your research. This could include reading "The Good Book" by Peter J. Gomes. Once one learns that the purpose of the Bible is not for us to re-create the scriptures, as a play or tableau, but rather to understand the meaning behind the scriptures as they adapt themselves to our capacity to hear them, we are able to grow from thence on. This is where the Bible gets the synonym, "Living Word".
I am also compelled to convey that one must also understand that Biblical literalism is akin to idolatry, another sin. Taking the word "abomination" literally in English, one loses the fact that this word in ancient Hebrew, means "against tradition". It was against tradition for men to lie with other men because "seed" or semen was sacred, and to use one's seed for purpose other than procreation was an abomination, against tradition. Israel was growing: procreation = life. Interpretation is key.
Christians believe the Bible is God's Word, and that it is true and dependable. If you can't believe the Bible, what business have you using the name Christian? In the Bible, God says he never changes, and the Bible speaks strongly against anybody who would tamper with the Word of God. Thus the Bible cannot be reinterpreted according to the whims of popular thought. If your interpretation is not centered around the Bible, it is meaningless.
It is not an interpretation "of the times in which we live" but rather an understanding of what the original text originally meant to the writers themselves and the context in which they were living and writing. I am distressed that you believe "interpretation" means a "modern-day translation" which is actually what our English Bible is! From Hebrew, to Greek, to Latin, back to Hebrew to a perverted form of Greek: How is it not our duty to discern what the words MEANT to the authors in our quest
By "interpretation" I mean the way you personally understand the Bible. We need to see the scriptures as they were seen by the authors, and as the Author intended, not "reinterpreting" the meaning to make it agree with the fashions of our time. I firmly believe that if we read the Word of God with our minds open to God's leading through his Spirit, we can know what God's will is. I also am quite confident in my Bible for its accuracy - it's not perfect, but I can depend on it.
Now I am compelled to agree with the God who is my Lord and Master. God destroyed entire cities and even nations for various acts which were described as "abominations", using the same words in question. Who am I to question God's judgment? He didn't judge people because they went against tradition, he did so because they were an intolerable offense against him. And least you think this is only Old Testament times, and things are different now, consider Romans 1 and 1 Corinthians 6.
And least I come across as harsh and judgmental, I must say that it is not my place to judge others, because God knows I'm no angel! I only seek to guide people toward God's word, which holds the answer to all of our problems. God speaks of his mercy and love and forgiveness much more than he speaks of his anger and judgment. If it weren't for God's mercy, we would all be without hope for eternity. Yet through the blood of Christ Jesus, by belief and repentance, we can live in peace forever.

If you really looked at the context of the Bible passages which speak of homosexuality, you would see that it is treated as the opposite of sacred! You can't take one word out of context and scrutinize it, finding the most positive meaning you could dig up, then use it to justify something the Bible condemns. If you want to justify homosexual sex, you must disregard the Bible, because it stands in opposition.
Christianity is built upon the belief that men are superior to women and that male homosexual activity is sacred. Original scripture (before it was edited by the early Church) talked about & worshipped Jesus' sexuality and diversity.. parts are still present in the Bible today!
The people of Sodom are not condemned because they are homosexual, they are condemned because they were committing group rape on non-homosexual (not worthy) men, such disrespect for the sacred act had to be punished!

does this mean that you should hate someone? its written in a well known book, so lets believe it and discriminate? i guess websters is pure truth and nothing in their varies as well.

I don't believe in prejudice (judging someone based on superficial characteristics) but we need to be discriminant about what a person does. One who kills people is a murderer, one who steals is a thief. A man who sleeps with his neighbor's wife is an adulterer, and a man who sleeps with another man is a sodomite, which God calls an abomination. Don't want to be judged? Then don't do the crime.
I don't even remember what brought me to this video. I really don't hate anybody. I am concerned though, because I see the harm this lifestyle does to people I LOVE. I don't enjoy losing people to it!

Hi, Rock. I do understand how love is. Love is unselfish. Love would never intentionally do anything which would hurt the other person. Homosexual behavior though is harmful. I'm Hetero, and I get hate speech. Why? Because I don't agree with the concept of «age of consent» for sex, because I insist that people be married before having sex, and because I say it's wrong for two men to have sex. By far though the biggest cause of my getting hate speech is my stand on the age of consent.

That's what this whole rights debate is about. Christians and others demand that their beliefs be enforced (by law) upon others (like gay people) and they see a loss of privilege to marginalize and treat others un-equally (in the public square) as some warped form of discrimination against themselves. Its the exact same arrogant, unthinking viewpoing that drove segregation and women's suffrage.
There is a difference. Segregation is based on race, women's rights is based on sex. Homosexuality is a behavior, not a race or sex. I don't care what you think or how you feel, that's between you and your Maker. But I do care how you act, because that affects others around you, for better or worse. Homosexual behavior tends toward the extreme, and that is why it is so often censured.
Swapping one person in the same relationships you hold with a different physical gender is hardly EXTREME by any means (and even 'extreme' acts like holding hands is what is most often censored).
Plenty of people live normal, healthy lives while doing things they shouldn't. That doesn't make it right! The thing you need to look at is the big picture - how does the average homosexual live? Is it a good thing to emulate? Do homosexuals generally live healthy, normal lives which would make their lifestyle desirable? The answer, unfortunately, is no.
Pretty much just like the 'average' heterosexual. The only real difference is a physical one, and that they can't have their own children (plenty of hetero couples can't either)

Do your research: read as many books or blogs or whatever you read to find out how other people have come out/grown to accept themselves. There is always the right AND the wrong time to come out to people. Wait if you aren't comfortable yet! There is no shame in waiting until you are absolutely sure of yourself before you come out to anyone.
hey its good to hear from a gay Christian. I've had a lot of struggles in my faith being a gay person from a super conservative Pentecostal Kansas family. It's been hard for me to sort out exactly what I believe. I'll check out some of those books your mentioned.

The hardest part is coming out.... I'm glad you muddle through it successfully!! I came out at the age of 19, and I'm 46 now.... life gets better.
I was reared as a Southern Baptist, but I threw that doctrine under the bus.... I just cannot wrap my head around any sort of organized religion. I'm a very proud Agnostic now..... and happy! Hope it all works out for you!!

Therefore, it would be stupid for God to say to a gay man do not lie with a man as you do with a woman WHEN a gay man doesn't lie with a woman to begin with. This clearly shows that God was speaking to heterosexual men AND NOT ONLY straight men BUT those who are married. WHY? Because under the Jewish Law, a man is not permitted to have sex with a woman UNLESS they are married, and the scripture clearly says 'As you lie with your woman' INDICATING that those men have women(wives) to begin with!

Why do we need an age of consent? Rape means sexual assault, sex by force. But when two people decide to have sex, and neither does anything the other does not want to do, how can that be rape? What does it matter what age they are? Why not just ask the child, did they want to do what they did? If the child or the parent feels they've been taken advantage of, let them decide on an appropriate penalty. That's the way it used to be done, back before the Great Panic of 1977-present.

The AoC in the US was 7-12 in 1880, and was only raised to prevent child prostitution, NOT to keep children from having sex. Parents could still give permission. Parental discretion was later taken away in favor of a blanket prohibition, claiming that sex was somehow harmful to anyone below an arbitrary age, though I don't think there's any scientific basis to that.
Again, why does nobody even consider sexual rights for pedophiles, or for children for that matter? Why do only gays matter?

My initial response is to ask you to do your research. This could include reading "The Good Book" by Peter J. Gomes. Once one learns that the purpose of the Bible is not for us to re-create the scriptures, as a play or tableau, but rather to understand the meaning behind the scriptures as they adapt themselves to our capacity to hear them, we are able to grow from thence on. This is where the Bible gets the synonym, "Living Word".

I am also compelled to convey that one must also understand that Biblical literalism is akin to idolatry, another sin. Taking the word "abomination" literally in English, one loses the fact that this word in ancient Hebrew, means "against tradition". It was against tradition for men to lie with other men because "seed" or semen was sacred, and to use one's seed for purpose other than procreation was an abomination, against tradition. Israel was growing: procreation = life. Interpretation is key.

In the Bible, God says he never changes, and the Bible speaks strongly against anybody who would tamper with the Word of God. Thus the Bible cannot be reinterpreted according to the whims of popular thought. If your interpretation is not centered around the Bible, it is meaningless.

By "interpretation" I mean the way you personally understand the Bible. We need to see the scriptures as they were seen by the authors, and as the Author intended, not "reinterpreting" the meaning to make it agree with the fashions of our time. I firmly believe that if we read the Word of God with our minds open to God's leading through his Spirit, we can know what God's will is. I also am quite confident in my Bible for its accuracy - it's not perfect, but I can depend on it.

The Biblical term תֹּועֵבָה tōʻēḇā or to'ba is mistranslated into English as "abomination" and in some cases "detestable".
The closes accurate translation is "taboo" meaning:
1. forbidden; an inhibition or ban resulting from social custom or emotional aversion
OR
2. declared sacred (and in some cases prohibiting the use or mention of it)
In this context, the bible says that male-male sexual contact is sacred.
As men are superior to women, you can't treat it the same way.

You can't take one word out of context and scrutinize it, finding the most positive meaning you could dig up, then use it to justify something the Bible condemns. Christianity is built upon the belief that men are superior to women and that male homosexual activity is sacred. Original scripture (before it was edited by the early Church) talked about & worshipped Jesus' sexuality and diversity.. parts are still present in the Bible today!

I don't even remember what brought me to this video. I really don't hate anybody. I am concerned though, because I see the harm this lifestyle does to people I LOVE. I don't enjoy losing people to it!
If I were gay, I would still not touch another man. I would seek to change. But it's hard for me to even imagine it, because I am far too thrilled with the female of the species which is so perfectly compatible with the male! I can think of nothing more beautiful than love between opposites.

There has to be some AOC somewhere ... and probably not much younger than now. We don't trust the very young with most decisions like that (like medical concent), expecially not one as big as marriage ... and prepubescent sex is incredibly damaging to a child in an incredibly large number of cases.

I don't believe there is any acceptable age for extramarital sex, and that's why I oppose AOC laws. AOC has nothing to do with marriage.
The reason prepubescent sex can be damaging to children is different in every case! It is not due solely to the age of the people involved - that is an oversimplification. Sexual abuse can happen at any age. Age should not be the all-important criterion for allowed behavior, but rather ability.

That's what this whole rights debate is about. Christians and others demand that their beliefs be enforced (by law) upon others (like gay people) and they see a loss of privilege to marginalize and treat others un-equally (in the public square) as some warped form of discrimination against themselves. Its the exact same arrogant, unthinking viewpoing that drove segregation and women's suffrage.

There is a difference. Segregation is based on race, women's rights is based on sex. Homosexuality is a behavior, not a race or sex. I don't care what you think or how you feel, that's between you and your Maker. But I do care how you act, because that affects others around you, for better or worse. Homosexual behavior tends toward the extreme, and that is why it is so often censured.

Plenty of people live normal, healthy lives while doing things they shouldn't. That doesn't make it right! The thing you need to look at is the big picture - how does the average homosexual live? Is it a good thing to emulate? Do homosexuals generally live healthy, normal lives which would make their lifestyle desirable? The answer, unfortunately, is no.

Pretty much just like the 'average' heterosexual. The only real difference is a physical one, and that they can't have their own children (plenty of hetero couples can't either)

Desirable for everyone, no. For gay people, yes. Its amazingly cruel for the person (and their 'partner', and god forbid, kids) to terrorize them into a sham/coverup marriage.

congrats on your coming out. I've been openly gay longer than you have lived and have forgotton what it was like to come out.
I am fortunate to have a very accepting faminly, but of course since I also have 2 gay siblings, we've really tested the straight members of my family.
I am also fortunate to be involved in a church that is either accepting or quiet.
Good luck in your journey. It appears that you have chosen a good path.

I appreciate you saying that -- but in living in such a small (call it 'closeted', even) community, I doubt my parents will ever truly accept me... unless a miracle happens! When the pastoral leadership of their church says "hate the sin, not the sinner" there isn't much I can do.

Do your research: read as many books or blogs or whatever you read to find out how other people have come out/grown to accept themselves. There is always the right AND the wrong time to come out to people. Wait if you aren't comfortable yet! There is no shame in waiting until you are absolutely sure of yourself before you come out to anyone.

hey its good to hear from a gay Christian. I've had a lot of struggles in my faith being a gay person from a super conservative Pentecostal Kansas family. It's been hard for me to sort out exactly what I believe. I'll check out some of those books your mentioned.

I'm glad some of the books I mentioned sound like they will be interesting and enlightening - We can't all just go around like blind herds of sheep who take everything for granted and accept everything they are told, be it from the pulpit or the newsroom.
