Yeah I would remove the UV filter. Regardless of what kind of filter, you'll still get the same effect when shooting right into the sunrise/sunset.

I Like the Silloute shots.. But 1 Queston.. Is he metering off the sky of the Person (Or animal) in the shot.. I would assume that he would be metering off the sky..
