Unfortunately these squirrels will be cat food once they are released. I rescue squirrels and they never make it for more than a few days once released. I have a few doggies in the house who love them and once released they think all the creatures are friendly. They need to be raised by their momma who teaches them who are their enemies and how to protect themselves. If you rescue a squirrel just know that releasing equals death sentence. So what should you do? Let them die? I still rescue them

If you'd take notice the momma cat has baby squirrel in her mouth, using very sharp fangs to hang onto baby, chomps down even harder to secure baby in her mouth so doesn't drop it as she jumps up/over the sides of container.

It was cute right up until the reporter dumped that "moral lesson" on us. The only reason the mother cat adopted the squirrels is because she had kittens and the mothering instict was still strong in her. Under any other circumstances, the cat would most likely have killed those squirrels. Yes, some humans do horrible things to animals, but there are plenty others, myself included, who would adopt a baby animal, even without the influence of a mothering instinct.

Lizards and fish don't (normally) take care of their young, but many mammals do (this includes humans), and these instincts can be transferred to other species. For example, we don't just view baby humans as "cute", but also baby cats. There's just as much reason to think we learned it from them, as they learned it from us.
