Glamis Thanksgiving 2008 Oldsmobile Hill

i grew up on these dunes during the 80's, there was never this amount of ppl at olds, even on thanksgiving wkend. my folks were part of the original sand pirates way back when. is the sand pirates club still together, we were all out of the L.A. county area

never been to the northern dunes but ive been going to gordons well with my dad for about 7-8 years now and were going to wash 3 for this thanksgiving (2011)

@hogan1902 Not sure why it's called that, maybe the first thing to ever make it up that particular hill had an Oldsmobile engine in it??????

@scottrooster1976 legend says that an oldsmobile got stuck on the hill before many people knew about glamis. they left it there because it was stuck so bad and so everyone called it oldsmobile hill before someone came and towed it out.

@hogan1902 Back in the mid 1960's the hill used to be very steep and you could not get a run at it, you had to power up the hill from almost a standing start. My dads dune buggy had a racing small block chevy in it and he had hand grooved paddle tires ( this was before you could buy them). Anyway he could climb the hill but his friend who had an oldsmobile could not make it. He tried and tried until he blew his motor all over the side of the hill. The nickname was coined by my dad.
