My mom raised me on these type of tunes, gosh this is when tunes used to be tunes. I think a lot of people are growing tired on the modern day bull-sh*t called music and slowly running back to nostalgia.
blues parties bronx basement ...mingles...charlie browns ...ronnie scotts east end blues parties .. david roddigan...gregg edwards ...robbie vincent radio shows tdk and basf chrome c90 cassettes lol exciting times
That album cover - Carroll in her Brentford-Nylons jumpsuit and fake-fur coat (probably borrowed from her church auntie) perched on a POS Leyland parked one early morning on a freezing January day off Palermo Road in run-down backstreet Harlesden.
I'm not taking the piss - that is everything that making music should be, but that we lost and is no more. I am so thankful I was around when it was happening.
This is one of the more memorable lovers rock tunes that I can remember playing often in my early adulthood back at the turn of the 80's. I was 22 when this hit the charts, and it was played relentlessly all over the place. Now I'm 52 and although I've changed a lot over the years, I was born & grew up on Harrow Road NW10, I was a Harlesden Man, so I grew up with the sounds of Reggae & Lovers Rock, Friday & Saturday night for me was Gregg Edwards and David Roddigan. Aaaaaaaaah, such memories☺/
@Santangelo47 I seem to recall having this tune on permanent repeat early 80s,it must have been a good era as many of these classics evoke priceless feelings and smiles. We were lucky i think?
@muvley Absolutely, we had the real being there at-the-time-of-creation of all those sweet sounds. I spent half of the 70's and most of the 80's down in Leicester square/Piccadilly, all over the west end, the whole of west London was buzzing with music back in those times, then I dunno what the heck happened, somebody left the back door open at the BBC or something & then all the Coppola slipped in and ruined it. Thank God for Capital Radio, David Roddigan, Gregg Edwards, Robbie Vincent
im 26 and i remember all these tunes, my mum played them 7 days a week 365 days a year its like tv wasn't about rarely got watched, now i seem to play them on a daily basis and my son knows the words....dont get tunes like these no more...!!!
yesterday at Acton carnival i had the incredible honour of singing a snatch of this in front of the lady herself.. and what a classy lady she is! incredible.. she gave me a cd personally, signed it for me, asked me why i'd never made music when i told her that i've been singing on local sounds, in bedroom studios and at the west indian club since i was a teen living in a small town, and she hugged me. apart from that childbirth thing.. BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.. the lady is a Legend!!
Sweet sweet tune from good days gone by. Little rubba dub wid ya spliff in one hand and ya woman in the other with the sweet smell of curry goat cooking up in the "Blues" that ur in. early 80`s styleee.....bless
If you don´t know what i´m on about then don´t worry about it, you was never there :)
..I want to dedicate a song as an apology, but Reggae is just so... not a sad rythm /:
