  • Good grief why can't some of you just sit back & look at what the ad is saying.

Anyway this is a good one. Sure, the late Yasmin Ahmad's ads were amazing, but this one's good. Full stop.

  • this made me cry wtf

  • WHO PUT THESE FUCKING ONIONS HERe????

  • This motivated to call my dad who I haven't spoken to in more than 6 months.

  • I would have cried if I hadnt have lost my feelings one week ago

  • awwwww crap, watching this made me guilt-tripped - in a good way

  • this cuts through all languages & countries! I am a New Yorker,of spanish background-it reminds me to treat not only my parents & grandparents with respect, but other elders as well.I wish you all a happy lunar new year.I am learning Mandarin at this time, but nice theme in this advert is for any language!

  • @lz042102 welcome to Malaysia=) and happy lunar new year to you too!

  • sedih, tersentuh dengan video ini.

  • omg..im very upset coz I kinda do this to my parents when they call me... ="(

  • Who cares if its in canto. Its all about the message.

  • Seriously? You guys are bashing on this video because they used Cantonese?!? Come on! Does the language really matter? Its the message that counts!

  • Such a beautiful commercial filled with ugly comments. It's just a chinese new year commercial and you guys are argueing which CHINESE language should come first? SERIOUSLY?! Does it even matter? It's not like they are speaking in languages you don't understand. Don't call yourself Malaysian lah.

  • teardropping

  • very rude

  • Yeah @Wjim90 absolutely right these pseudo Cantonese are mostly from small towns who want to show off they are KLites so they insists on speaking Cantonese wherever they go , so they can be labelled as KL people

  • the problem with malaysia..wtf, they speak a minority dialect instead of mandarin or hokkien, as this is the majority chinese dialect in malaysia, if follows the numbers, hakka also should rank in front of cantonese.. ignorant

  • Why are the hell are they speaking Cantonese? Use Mandarin la or Hokkien being the majority

  • Where this year one?! Faster out la! I need the mood to celebrate.

  • 知福、惜福、培福、種福

  • Petronas got it right once more.

  • why the movie all touching......tear.... T_T

  • Petronas , Y u no put HD Video ???

  • :').....i m miss u all too...so this CNyear i will have a big holiday with family...!!

  • Grandparents are the cutest! :) Such a touching add, for 1ce people forget about Racism and value the morale in it. Happy Chinese New Year to all.

  • Petronas Ads! Always made me cry in the inside.

  • Petronas ads. Emotionally guilt-tripping me to tears since 1998. I still love them.

  • @littleplate How True! lols :P

  • T-T

  • I just wants to say this to my foljs: you are NEVER a burden to us but more likely a precious, because without you, I am never a person I am today. I love you folks..

  • touch into my heart....T.T

  • WE SPEND TOO LITTLE TO PARENTS BUT SPEND TOO MUCH ON OURSELVES AS WE GROW OLDER. WHAT IS INSULTING IS OUR PARENT SPEND A LOT TO OURSELVES BUT TOO LITTLE TO THEIR OWN WHEN WE ARE ALL BABY. AND CHILD

  • i hate this video becos it alwasy makes me tear including the other commercials

  • This is the most touching video that i have ever seen it really makes you think

  • so touching..reminds me bout my parents that let me pursuing my degree far from their sight.. but I know that I am always inside their heart and they are always in my heart as well..

  • So touching till it makes me rolling down my tears .....

  • Btw most of the young ones when abroad because of the currency exchange. They just when to places where they could earn more. Human being are like that. Look at the among of Australians working in Indonesia. And the amount of westerners in China. Where there is money, there will be people going to cari makan.

  • Matsetia, are u sure about Petronas cause the team I work with is headed by an Indian. And before that 2 Chinese ladies. Don't generalize my friend.

  • 100K!!!!!!woohoo...well done!

  • Due to Mahathir's past policy many non malays esp the young have gone abroad to find work and leaving loved ones behind. As you look around the Government posts are all filled by one race only.......GLCs, Unis, Mas, Embassies, and even Petronas are all guilty of practicing discrimination against minority races Indians, Chinese & others .

Hopefully oneday Racism will be a thing of the past and all Malaysians will enjoy opportunities now denied them . Lets work towards 1M'sia.

  • 100K seem so close yet so far....hmmmm...

  • Thank You Petronas for reminding us that they are bad parents too. Bad parents

begets bad children. To all bad parents out there if your children are just like the people in this commercial, serve you right!!!! And stop that crocodile tears please ...whining and complaining to the world that your children treating you bad bla bla bla zzz...

  • The return of Yasmin-Ahmad-style ads. Great job Petronas! Who is the director?

  • @kukamil

The Director is the late Yasmin's husband, Tan Yew Leong.

  • I always love these commercials from Petronas... Thank you from reminding us of the real people we should be

  • Let's get the TV Commercial to pass the 100k mark!

  • So touching! Well done!

  • Comment removed

  • i've never done that to my parents, though we have a 40 year age gap. and i am proud of myself!!

  • @babyeeya well done. Keep it up. You are one in a million. I am sure your parents are very proud of u too.

  • Sad and sorrow.......it's Chinese New Year not a sad occasion!

It's suit more to Hari Raya not CNY........

  • @london56 I don't think it is sad or sorrow. I would prefer reflective. At the end, you do see the elders having a good time with their family. Reflective because at some point or another we would have treated our parents like some of the scenarios depicted. Most of us would have done it unintentionally and we don't mean it. And I am sure we will continue to do unintentionally but hopefully we would think twice before we do it.

  • @london56 I don't think it's sad and sorrow. It's just trying to tell us that during CNY we get to get back together and celebrate it as family to compensate the times where we neglected our parents. Like yltan07 said, reflect our actions.

  • I cried when I watched this adv while my mom sitting next to me... My mom saw me and just hug me without saying any word. Somehow I felf I'm one of the son in the adv who alwasy no time for my Mom. Due to I'm work at Singaore while she at Kuala Lumpur. Parents don't expect much from us; they just want us to spend more time with them.

  • Arg i felt so emotional!

Will never let my parents go so lonely! :[

  • With all these advert over the years.....we still see the never ending abuse and disrespect towards elder people by their own children...who considers them as burden and throw them out to the streets or make them work or even worse throw into a forgotten old folks home! This continues like a never ending wheel, children do to parents and their children do to them when they grow up.....it continues...nobody seems to learn!

  • I want hd

  • All feelings from the heart are universal, irrespective of creed or colour. This video depicts the exact need of any ma and pa, particularly the aged ones. I enjoined the hope of the author that this video reawakens the inate sense of all sons and daughters towards their parents. Remember, what goes round comes around.

  • I miss Yasmin Ahmad's touch.

  • @ewwtyoob theres plenty of talent in the industry to fill the void she left.

    Gotta love petronas ads.

  • @ewwtyoob We all miss her. I miss her as my best friend and my dearest wife. I miss her amazing writing. Simple, powerful and insightful. She is an amazing person. The kindest human being I have ever known. May God bless her.

I don't think anyone can replace her but I believe there are lots of people out there who will try their best to do wondeful powerful films that will touch people for the better. And maybe if we try hard enough, God might just bless us with some powerful moving work.

  • @ewwtyoob The late Yasmin Ahmad would be proud of our new and young talents. She had left many footprints behind.

  • This is an incredible advert!

  • Lutuse, I think you should check out what the definition of racism is. I was at one of Petronas's engineering staff outing in Bukit Gambang recently and there was a good mix of every race present. I am not a staff but I am married to one. I have never seen such great friendship amongst the staff in a long time. It was fun to see everyone inter-mingling and having fun during "makan" and games.

BTW, my husband's big boss is chinese, my husband is malay and I'm chinese.

  • @mishaab76 Quran described the shape of earth using the following Arabic words:

Madda, Madadnaha, Firasha, Mahdan, Farashnaha, Bisata, Mihada, Dahaha, Tahaha and Sutehat.

Every one of them means FLAT

  • @mishaab76 PETRONAS is racist, you may not be on the recieving end of it but many of us have been.

  • @mishaab76 And by the way I have seen PETRONAS clear the decks of foreigners while Bumiputra are flown in to stand on their vessel decks for helicopter promotional pictures.

So don't assume racism is not company policy until you speak to people that get the affects of their policies.

  • @MUHAMMADFUCKEDAKID1

    foreigner = malaysian/indonesian/thais etc = nationality issue

    race = chinese/malay/indian etc = racism issue

why ppl found it hard to fathom this simple equation.

to justify said action, Petronas is Malaysian government-backed company, they can do whatever they want to represent that 'Malaysian' image

  • @mishaab76 agree with you. my dad was once worked as Petronas staff and no such thing as racism.

  • 7 people have no souls.

  • A good ads to aware us for our parent deepest love towards ours. We shall look back & take care while they with us together. Happy new year.

  • Guys it not enough just watch it ... pls pour some action to the hidden message from this great advertisement..

  • Nice ad! I have to admit that I shed tears watching it. I always feel bad for being so impatient with my parents and my late grandma. After seeing this, I felt worst and really have to "fan seng har"

  • We always take things for granted with our parents. Those with their parents still around should take note of this. I hope the younger generations will value this presentation by Petronas. Truly a timely reminder.

  • Nice ad

  • Great !

  • @Lutuse <-- actually he is a racist... everybody is crying watching this video but he is no feeling at all, then say petronas is racist...

The commercial’s scriptwriter Ken Wong, 27, from the Leo Burnett advertising agency admitted that he used to take his mother for granted at times.

Taken this from The Star 6 Feb 2011

  • @khairulamyhilmi i know..i just read it a few minutes ago XD

  • @Lutuse its one of the most realistic and touching videos i have ever seen! it reminds us everything we tend to forget when we are older. so u shut ur mouth and not say anything bad about it

  • Petronas!!! Great ads... you never fail producing good quality ads thoughout these years... good spent of money and a gentle reminder to all of us....Thumbs Up. Happy Chinese New Year to all ....

  • An effectively moving ad. Thanks to the creative team for reminding us to fulfil an important filial duty. Thank you, Petronas, for never disappointing me with your meaningful ads. Syabas!

  • I see my mother everyday but at times I also take her for granted. I felt guilty at times. Now I hope my children will treat me better because I am not getting any younger

  • every Petronas ad have been beautiful and this is another one of it.....gud job....

  • Simple.. but very beautiful ; )

  • /sniff sniff. /sobs. It's so touching. I feel bad now :,(

  • This is the most amazing commercial i ever seen, so emotional.

  • I am Chinese and it is Chinese new year. I wish I can see more of my family and very dear friends. I hope they feel the same way I do because my friends never call me or invight me to any of their homes.

  • i think especially in america, we could all learn so much from this... love for others comes from love for our family.

  • Man.. I felt bad watching the granny and the girl when she told her "you don't have to tell me so many times". I sometimes do that with my mum and now I feel bad lol.

  • 为什么就是没有人关心寂寞的年轻人。

  • 新年快樂

  • so touching. almost cried out loud.

  • Oh my God thumbs up if you wanted to just give them all a big hug and say come here ill be your kid ;')

  • If this tvc commercial has taught me anything, it'd be to always treat, respect & take care of your elders. You have no idea just how much sacrifices they've made for you to be where you are right now.

Kudos, Petronas, and happy chinese new year to all :)

  • petronas tv ads never fail to make me cry

  • it feels like watching her work. she would approve. congrats Mr. Tan.

  • thumbs up alot!!! meaningful video..=)))

  • This ad is supposed to remind us to respect love and cherish our elders.

My grandmother always taught me, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

If you wish to comment on this TVC negatively, make sure you have no faults yourself, starting with writing your comments in proper English and getting all your spelling and grammar correct. Your chacha mambra comments make no sense.

When you do this, you're pointing 1 accusing finger at the creators of this TV commercial with 4

  • People, ahfook77 is right. We should all learn how to take criticism better. It will help us make better work. It would be nice to hear from ahfook77 about how we could have improve on the editing, how to make it simpler and how to make it less amateurish. Thank god for the generally good response so far.

  • Guys guys...mak always said...sangka baik.....so lets take this criticism in a good way...and with criticism should always advise on how we could have done this better... :) we are all here to work together...

  • Comment removed

  • Don't cone to

  • Honey.. If you can't take criticism and opinion of people,

  • to@ ahfook77...if you think you can do better... prove it...or else just shut the f&^k up and just get a life

  • it's a shame to see how people (@ahfook77, @starwing) trying hard to criticize this advert.. but i personally think this advert won many people's heart as it remind them their home & family!! Good Job!! Keep on going!!

  • Lousy tvc.....it's a shame to see this after we have seen so many great tvc produced by Yasmin Ahmad... Just another awesome ads. Beautiful and nothing special. Simple message delivered in great complexity and totally reduncdant. Poor editing and totally waste of time and money. Very amateur work.

  • @ahfook77 sound like you from Agency? You don't know any background and the story behind the petronas TVC so just shut your f&%*^ mouth. You don't belong here.

  • @Starwing OK would be nice to hear from you which ones you think she directed. Not a contest, just wondering :) do share.

  • My favorite Petronas advert (directed by Yasmin) was the one for CNY 2008 about the orphan schoolboy. Very touching indeed.

  • quite standard from Petronas but i hope they would've used actors with proper cantonese dialect... they sound like from those ulu town come to KL type... :S

  • @perwiratempur what's wrong with ulu town come to KL type?

  • @yltan07 nothing wrong, just that KL is super crowded now

  • @perwiratempur well they have every right to come to KL to earn a living like you and me. If they have a choice who would want to leave their family to come to KL.

  • @perwiratempur Hi perwira tempur...does everyone around you speak with a proper cantonese dialect? ;P

  • I always loved the Petronas' series of family oriented New Year clips.

  • I wanna go home, I wanna see my family, I miss them so much.

  • I was tearing when I watch this...

  • This is so touching !

  • During CNY, family comes first, at least for that 2 days. Happy CNY!

  • It will never be the same without Yasmin. Petronas should consider dropping the project all together. This video is just too amateur and un-meaningful.

  • It's funny a lot of people think that, there were many Petronas commercials that weren't written, nor directed by Yasmin, so can you tell which ones were hers?

  • @chatuchak511 As a matter of fact, I can. :)

  • @Starwing which one? which was written by her? directed by her?

  • Comment removed

  • @Starwing Omg~! Move on! Yasmin is great, but please, move on!!! Then bring her back from death if you can't~

Ps - This is one touching ad, great work~!

  • @Starwing so if the video is not meaningful to you, why did it touch other malaysian souls? :)

  • The anticipated CNY ads of the year! Thank you

  • Touch my heart tho!!

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • I love malaysian chinese new year ads. They are the best and very touching! Greeting from indonesia Gong Xi Fa Cai..

  • fucked it, i haven't gone back home to celebrate the chinese new year with my family for three years now, and this is exactly what my parents sound like on the other end of the phone

    a chinese in america

  • that was sooo sweet :(..i almost cried

  • Want to do online Chinese lesson with me?

  • so sad =(

  • Touching rrrr..

  • I'm glad that i worked on this Commercial along side many great people. Would like to thank everyone for their contribution, especially the elder talents who did a wonderful job and being patient with us all the way. We cherish our elders and working on this ad has gotten me closer to my own family. Thank you.

  • @crubannon I admire the way you wrote your reply - full of humility and gratitude. Many thanks for being an inspiration!

  • @crubannon amazing work.

  • Damn. I miss my parents

  • sape director iklan ni ekk? i missed the old Yasmin Ahmad's ads... but someone has to continue her legacy, right?

  • @bmatatarial09 it's by the late Yasmin's husband. and this could be the last one we can ever see.

  • Personas advertisement never disappoint us..

  • It make me cry within seconds..TT^TT

  • Comment removed

  • very nice :)

  • It happens not only on Chinese community, I think everyone of Malaysians should appreciate their family. Family is just like a base camp. And the world outside is like a war.

I Love My Family So Much! And Everyone Should Do!

  • Thumbs up.... A very touch advertistment which is happening in my life.....

  • yet another one that made me shed tears... papa mama, i'll try to be better...

  • 非常的感动。

    希望在外的游子们都可以了解。

  • I can instantly relate to this - sometimes, when mum calls me, I tell her that i'm too busy to talk to her. But yes, all we need to do to make our parents happy is spend just a few minutes chatting with them. Like what the ad says "it's easy to put a smile on their faces". True.

  • OMG! I'm crying...

    Happy CNY everybody...:)

  • Alamak, gua nangis tak ingat plak. Damn! And I don't even celebrate CNY. Gong Xi Fa Cai to all those celebrating!

  • OMG TEAR JERKER.

  • i'll be home this new year

  • Yasmin's legacy lives on, as we can all see here

  • its directed by the same company where Yasmin worked

  • Nice video and touched peoples heart. Atleast turn us from robot to human for awhile........

  • it is so touching......!!!!!!!!
