@tdriftking88 keirin is just one of many track events. regular sprints usually start out cat and mouse. I think keirin is usually the most exciting though, massive power, massive crashes.
@gangsta287 he is like start gate for struggle. Keirin is Javanese invented traditional racing on velodromes like horse races...and instead of motorbike they traditionally uses bicycle also as other riders. This leader slowly increases speed and then suddenly goes of the track and fight starts... some 3...4 laps remains. Keirin is most extreme discipline in trackcycling.
I don't really understand track cycling so excuse my ignorance but why was there a guy in a granny bike in first for a large portion of the race and why was he pedaling wierd?? lol
@oGxKicks It's a keirin race. The field follows behind the pacer (the guy in the black suit) for most of the eight laps. The pacer slowly picks up speed. The pacer leaves the track with about 2 and a half laps left wherein the riders sprint for the finish.
did that guy in the red get punished for causing the crash? or did they not think he caused it? I dont have sound and am not experienced with bike racing, although I enjoy watching it. It seems like a very tactical sport, whilst also obviously being very physically demanding.
Even people who DO know the sport are not sure. However, the theory is for the motorbike to gradually increase speed and then pull off at a particular speed so that the competitive part of the event starts at that speed and goes on for some distance or other. The Japanese invented the event and it is named after a beer. I'm not kidding.
@tdriftking88 The motorist in the front is there to let the lead man draft off him so they all get the same advantage and dictates the speed. You reduce 30% of the effort by drafting. Everyones legs get the same advantage of drafting.
@ITsupportian But is it possible that some racers want to go faster? And also, isn't it a strategy to not be first and stay behind another racer? I don't see why there is such a need for the guy to be in the front for others to drift behind.
@tdriftking88 alright several people have replied. thanks for answering my question. I feel like the motorized bike is kind of restrictive and while those final laps are interesting to watch, would seem nice for a race to be one of "cat and mouse"
@MorkaGraven these bikes are fixed gear track bikes, not 10-speeds. and they are pure carbon fiber. Light as a feather. plus aerodynamics, and a solid rider will leave your $20 bike in the dust. These bikes are ridiculously faster than steel 10 spd frames with alloy wheels.
@MorkaGraven hahaha are you retarded?? first of all if you got a 'stripped down tenspeed on alloy wheels' you wouldn't even make it to the start line coz itd be illegal. dumbass.
@Yarxing Actually....My bike will beat at least one of these bikes. I have a Cinelli Laser 58cm with a rear Xentis mark 700c and a Front Xentis mark 650c. With a Profile Cobra wing Bullhorns, a Dura ace crankset and BB with Racing Pro chain NJS.
@MorkaGraven I would love to see your $2 bike crash on solid floor at 70kph. Oh wait, that wouldn't happen because you wouldn't even be able to go half that speed.
Jordan, i have no idea how fast they are going, but i am sure they are going by bicycle. If you pedal those things, they go, some shit to do with chains and cogs.

@tdriftking88 because of wind.... He blocks the wind for the racer in the front, it wouldn't be fair if the leader gets all the wind.

@tdriftking88 its basically:
1) to keep the pace high and steady
