I never understand why they choose to make him speak Chinese in this movie, when he doesn't even know how to. His accent is pretty crappy, but I'd still say it's better than 80% of other white actors trying to speak Mandarin. He at least puts some effort into getting the intonations correct instead of just rambling on in a western monotone. Must be the quarter Asian in him!

The acting aside, that was by far the best mandarin I've ever heard spoken by a Hollywood A-lister in a major film. Pronunciation was good, tones were ok; he was completely understandable. Nic Cage spoke well in God of War too, but had far fewer lines.

Chinese is difficult. The tongue has to get used to forms it needs to take in order to pronouce r's properly or the harsher sounding zh, sh, ch etc. Keanu's Chinese is very far from horrible.

Yeah that was pretty bad. I've only taken Chinese on Rosetta Stone and in that short amount of time I learned how to properly pronounce the words. He's pronouncing the words like he's speaking English.
