  • I love the washing machines

  • How much crack do you have to smoke to dislike this? go listen to beiber.

  • Gonna be a "workin man" again on 9/26/11 at Intel Ronler Acres In Hillsboro Oregon .... Stainless Steel orbital welding In a cleanroom hooking up computer chip making equipment :)

  • Evreyone in this band is amazing at there instrument

  • Love the guitar work on this. Lifeson is a stud!

  • my favorite song of all time

  • fukin toooo good!!!!...

  • 3 persons are unemployed

  • i find it ironic how they use maytag dryers in the background when the song is about working hard but the maytag repairman is always sitting there doing nothing

  • lol tunes the guitar during the solo and doesn't miss a beat. Alex Lifeson = champ

  • amazing.....

  • My favorite Trio of all time!

  • Cobain influenced a lot of people. Maybe that is the point.

  • Rush still rocks but wtf happened to his voice...damn...too much alcohol/ drugs?

  • @skaz915 age

  • @skaz915 age, 40 consecutive working years, small breaks and rarely big ones

  • @rush622112 They took are jobs!

  • Being a Hard Worker Myself I can really dig it, SCORCHIN SOLO BY ALEX......NEIL WELL ALWAYS ON CUE......

  • We live in a pretty sick world when Tone Loc' and Madonna are in the rock and roll hall of fame ...but Rush isn't.

  • RUSH CONCHETUMADRE

  • What kind of guitar is Alex playing? Ima try looking for it for my band.

  • @greenorange75 That's his classic Gibson ES-355. I think in 2005 or so Gibson came out with the Alex Lifeson model that looks just like it but it's ridiculously overpriced at $3500.

  • Rush rocks so hard, it's hard to believe they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • whats up with the washing machines

  • Thumbs up for lifesons Gibson!

  • @AvAkennyAvA only Big Al deserves a guitar this beautiful :)

  • Love this tune, but BPM's are too slow this version. And WTF with the dryers? These guys don't need BS stage props as a joke.

  • @gitardoofus I was thinking the same "it's too slow...". But by being slower, it makes possible for Lifeson to do the solo at same pace than in the studio version with longer bars, meaning more space to express... however the bridge sucks bad...

  • @Erandros I hear you about the solo - we're probably not worthy of questioning anything these guys do, though. Maybe it was the moment, mood, whatever. I know how I like to play this tune, and how I've heard it since forever, so maybe I'm biased a little. Ya gotta love Alex's guitar stuff no matter the 'version' - or the song -and I'm proud to be a Rush fan. They're like nobody else - or what?!

  • Too slow for my liking

  • i love rush but why the hell are there washing machines on stage lol

  • @FJCorboMusic geddy doesnt use speakers, he sings into pa system. they put random things in the empty space for comedic purposes.

  • @RobDZeppelin thats why rush is the best lol

  • wow, after 36 plus concerts, and dozens of vids watched, I have really never seen Alex get out of tune! He obviously had Low E string issues, which you can barely hear at around 1"00... But then high E string problems too ! Wow. He had to physically tune it at least twice as well. Which is unheard of. It throws him off playing wize as well.

  • @kennyplay Sounds like an issue with his guitar tech?; maybe it was a new promo version for him to play (gift from Gibson), new strings, or he just needed to lube the nut a bit. Alex even semi-out-of-tune still kicks butt on the other 75% of guitarists that don't deserve to carry his gear to the truck!

  • who is the loser that gave this video a dislike?

  • THEY STILL GOT IT!!!!!

  • i saw them on July 13th in toronto at the Molson Ampethietre

  • @GotAdobo44162 Shit pare. Swerte mo.

  • @GotAdobo44162 same here.....i had to clean the jizz off my pants when i got home

  • ok.. this great great man is definately not 20... if someone was listening to this exact recording for the first time on CD unfamiliar to the time.. you would have sworn the singer was about 20.. Geddy is amazing..

  • WTF......ONE person didn't like this????

  • Great band. Great song

  • I agree about Hendryx. He was one of the original innovators. He was great. But Lifeson is also one of the great guitar players. Forget Rolling Stone. We can make our own list!

  • Bad ass!!!

  • Just out of curiosity...For a few tours now, does anyone know why they use the washers/dryers on stage? Just wondering what the significance is.

  • @itlnstln35 Rush have always been multi-taskers. If you have to be on stage for 3 hours, why not get some laundry done at the same time?

  • @itlnstln35 From what ive heard, Geddy uses the P.A. instead of stage amps now so he decided to put something on the stage with him so he puts dryers there as a joke.

  • @itlnstln35

Yeah.. Geddy has mucked around saying he likes to do laundry on stage and stuff like that.. but since his bass is passive he plugs straight into the P.A. its a great ida if you knnow what your doing... and because of that he didn't need amps on stage.. therefore making teh stage set out look uneven. so he got old style equipment.. he uses dryers on this tour.. but he uses different props.. last tour they did he had cook ovens and actual chefs were hired to cook chicken.

  • who ever dislike this... well poopy on him/her

  • everytime I see that goatee I think of the trailer park bys episode lol

  • Here's the thing, it is impossible to say that one guitarist or another is any better or worse than another unless they play the same part in the band. You wouldn't compare a lead guitarist to the only guitarist in the band. Therefore, any lists, which shouldn't exist at all, should be be in accordance to what part they played in the band.

  • @LodRavenx8- Alex is awesome!

  • Absolutely amazing! Favorited!

  • What a slow plodding mess. Needs that Rutsey touch!

  • @tremooloo Hahaha yeah right!

  • @tremooloo john was good, but neil is way better than he was, not that he was a bad drummer just all in all neil is better.

  • Your video compressed really well in the transition to youtube, still nice and clear, great!

  • @Lerxst03 at 2:07 yu mean when yu hear a guy say "

    woah"

  • What happened to their luster :( geddy sings really high pitched when they play live for some reason. It's actualy quite anoyying. Why can't they play with soul like back in the day arghhhh

  • superbevo was that really neseery

  • Man, Geddy usually sounds better than this. getting old sucks

  • This was from their first album after all. It's gotta lose some of it's luster after they've performed it for the 20,001st time.

  • VH is great and unique but Lifeson is much more dynamic and accomplished as well as progressive. One should not compare musicians but since you did I had to respond.

  • rush Rocks!

van halen is better but rush is second

  • Dude please........

  • @TheMonkey290

    really though...

  • Mics in front of the dryers? what ya been smokin'! Geddy?

  • @superbeavo Ithink the dryers have concert t's in them.

  • @superbeavo It gives him a nice warm tone

  • RIO RIO RIO PARTY

  • Omg rush is so good, I like metallica and megadeth better but this song is just so great

  • Alex Lifeson....fucking brilliant!

  • Fuck Rolling Stone mag, they're just a shill for the record companies and whoever wants to pay gets top billing!

  • Fuck rolling shit. KURT COBAIN in the top 20? Come on! Jimi Hendrix number 1? Mega points to burnsmay on his comment. Couldn't of said it better myself. Rolling stone doesn't understand Rush. Too difficult for them!

  • @TheMapexDrummer11 as an experienced guitar player Hendrix deserves his spot as number one, his music is complex, revolutionary at the time, he also sang while playing and on top of that out of his mind on drugs and completely self taught. although i agree kurt cobain shouldn't even be on the list. That and Alex lifeson defintely deserved to be higher on their list.

  • @TheMapexDrummer11 Hendrix definitely deserves his spot as number 1. If you can't get that then you don't know jack about the meaning of rock and roll. Its about freedom and just letting go, and plain talent. Hendrix made the music that communicated that better than anybody ever has up to date. I agree Alex and Brian May should be way higher, but don't knock the guitar god himself just to get your point across.

  • @TheMapexDrummer11 Seriously, maybe one could justify calling Cobain a good songwriter (I'm not a huge fan), but to call him a great guitarist is a stretch. His playing was technically sloppy and seemingly uninspired. There's a reason why all Nirvana songs are what beginners in guitar learn, including myself 4 years ago.

  • spam troll is spam

  • Most Underated Guitar Player Ever!

  • Rolling Stone gives these guys such a hard deal, and an other magazine put Malcolm Young (Rhythm guitar for AC/DC) in a top 100 guitarists and not Alex Lifeson because I quote "Malcolm plays strums so hard only half a pick is left after every song." What a load of nonsense! Really hope there'll be another album and tour.

  • dat is a bullshit list to me even kurt cobains on there in the top 20 he was oight but not dat good

  • jack white was 20 in their list and fucking

van halen came in at 70 that's bullshit

  • Keep in mind Malcolm Young originally played lead guitar when AC/DC first formed. If you've ever heard his leads you would know how good he really is. As for Rolling Stone, that's nothing but a corporate rag with zero music credibility these days. I canceled my subscription to that cat box liner in the early 90's after I counted 21 ads before the first story.

  • Alex is like Brian May.Great band guitarplayers,Rolling Stone doesn't understand Rush. Probably too difficult for them

  • @burnsmay Don't forget their lack of understanding Neil. Also, fuck the Rock and Shit hall of fame.

  • @burnsmay The reason why that they aren't accepted into the HoF, is that, They don't deserve rush! Rush has gotta be the most intelligent band I've seen, and my dad introduced the band to me about 10 years ago haha. The lyrics are genius, considering Niel is a genius.

  • @burnsmay I've always thought that Rolling Stone magazine was an overrated bunch of nonsense that people have given this undeserved status to regarding musical judgment. To no like Rush is to say something about one's sophistication musically.

  • @burnsmay i hate to burst your bubble but rush had an entire article about them in the july 10-24 issue of rolling stone back in 2008, a couple of weeks before the end of the 2008 leg of the snakes and arrows tour. The issue number was 1056/1057.

  • Comment removed

  • they put malcolm in the top hundred for the rhythm he plays, he's not a lead guitar player, but he is a damn good player who has shaped rock music and many guitar players styles. Rush are awesome too may i add.

  • man Lifeson oils up those finger joints and shreds here

  • Was it me or was Alex slightly out of tune?

  • It was you

  • See 2´06 for a slight tweek!!

  • hey BiggestMettalicafan, I also love old stuff like you and Im only 13! My mom says "I never thought my child would be obsessed with Rush, The Beatles, and Aerosmith!" lol I recognize great musicians like this. oh, and I also love Mettalica, but isnt obsesed! I cn tell you love them more than I do!

  • Its sounds, if my sister sings. Geeeeeehhhh!! She has no balls too. The riff is killer!

  • I saw Ted Nugent Dec 30 1975 at Cobo arena. Rush was the opener.

  • Danm those guys are getting old.

  • Do you get younger every day?

  • What the hell are you talking about ??

  • The build up.................4:00

  • Watch Neil go nuts at 4:07.

  • why do they have a washer in the background???

  • goes back a long way.

  • They have 3 and they are Rush... They are just.... plain awesome!

  • dryers

  • Why are they there? Who knows. Does anyone care? Fuck no it's Rush haha

  • I love Rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why don't teenagers like me listen to good music like this?!? kids these days, I swear

  • I saw them at the Palladiem in N Y 1980 I thought after seeing Zeppelin was my best concert but Rush killed just my opinion Zep was the best but Rush was like purple micro dot mesculine

  • You can't say Teenager like that man.

Im 17, old stuff like this is all i listen to.

    I hate anything newer.

    My favs are

    MetallicA

    Ac/Dc

    Led Zeppelin

    Rush for sure

    Ozzy Ozzbourne

That's just the start of em

  • Live young, listen old man. Those are/will be the most talented rock bands to ever grace us with their mindblowing tunes. Only couple I see left out are The Stones, Hendrix, and Floyd. Still, amazing taste in music there. I wish our generation would get their fucking heads out of what the media deems "popular."

  • I could not agree with you more.

And Old Man??, i ain't no old man bud.

  • Lmao, I should've put a comma in there. I mean live young, listen old, man. Music wise the 60s were pure brilliance. Anything until about 1990 and then it steadily declined to what we have now. I just can't stand those wannabe gangsters our age that support the talentless yet marketable cRap music artists ... that and country music lmao

  • lol ight

Yeah Rap ain't even music, just a bunch of fags talking real fast.

  • and swearing.

  • Needs moar Megadeth haha

  • Megadeth needs more Alex Lifeson

  • Neil loves playing this song of course: after all, he's a working stiff.

  • he's just working all the time.

  • why do you say that?

  • I think Neil hates to play this song

  • Ya right what he makes$ must be a bitch.

  • Hmm...correct comments here, the guitar's somewhat out of tune. Also they took the verses at a reeaallly slow tempo, wonder what's up with that? The bridge/solo sections were about the same tempo as the recording.

  • It's out of tune probably because he's been using it a lot during the show. just a plausible guess.

  • alex has been using that guitar since the Permanent Waves Album. and no it is not out of tune

  • Slowing a song down can give a better feel. Not ever rock song has to be fast people. and they sometimes have to spread the their songs out to use time..the full length. If they're setlist exceeds the alotted time they will raise the tempo. LIVE SHOWS ARE USUALLY DIFFERENT THEN STUDIO ALBUMS!!

  • Oh not doubt. In this particular case I think it takes away from the song a bit, looses it's edge.

  • eh i guess. I like it this way because it shows more talent through out the years. In this version Geddy is singing like..really singing...and slowing the song down allows him to sing like that(faster songs call for rushed songs) well i donno whay they do it....im jus stating my opinion as a musican on an amazing band. Long Live Rush

  • Yep. Geddy's unreal. He's not only an exceptional bass player, but an exceptional singer as well, and he does those things at the same time.

  • oh, poor alex hahah, he's awesome

  • I see Alex's es had some tunning problems, bad tunner probably.

  • how do you tunne your guitar?

    drop tunning, or standard tunning?

    do you use a tunner?

  • are you asking me seriously or sarcasticly? because I wasn't saying "Alex" is a bad tunner....I meant that his "guitar" probably had a bad tunning knob,

  • or you can do it by ear

  • the guitar is definately out of tune. that will be a guitar tech fired.

  • i wish i was there!

  • "Ladies and gentlemen, the Professor on the drum keg...."

Geddy Lee, All the World's a Stage

Doesn't get much better than this!

  • I disagree strenuously with the 2 above who say it sucks- For any real Rush fan this song and the other 2 in the medley of this encore were an just awesome to see/hear

And Lee's voice has been deeper for like 20 years no this is nothing new

  • hey at least he fixed the guitar tunning for the big jam out solo! =) lol

  • that's right, they made a fixture to use it for the solo jam, lol!

  • Used to see Rush play at the Electric Ballrom in Atlanta back in the 70's. These guys are one of the best bands in the history of music IMO. Long may they rock!

  • That aint workin!

  • Didnt a guy called John Rutsey play drums on the album with this song on?

  • yes. they had him on their first album "Rush". Then before they started touring he quit because he didnt want the touring life. Then they held auditions and picked up Neil Peart for the tour. Neil Peart plays on the next album "Fly By Night"

  • he quit because he had diabetes

  • yes he did

  • Multi-tasking: Belting out awesome jams while doing the laundry.

  • agreed lmao

  • i love geddys soul patch

  • this song kicks ass, but it sounds better on the recorded version than in this version

  • Blasphemy!

Peart's drums are amazing on this one!

  • i never said they were not. It's just geddy lee's vocals sound off and it's too slow.

  • DOUBLE BLASPHEMY !!!

just kidding'man, but you give Geddy a break, his age has something to do with his present singing!

  • no he sings fine in his other songs but in this one i just don't like the way he sings in this one. its a matter of opinion

  • I know what you mean. Obviously Geddy can't do his high voice as well as used to... I like this version, but if you don't thats cool. It's all just one big opinion.

  • I saw Rush on their Snakes and Arrows tour, just AMAZING!

  • Ha, I saw them 3 times on them Snakes and Arrows. They were just amazing. I can't even describe it.

  • Wow. I find it so cool to see Rush playing a song from so early in their career.

  • Why so slow?

  • They have legs.

  • Alex is really struggling with keeping the White Lady in tune throughout this performance... kept it all together though.. great stuff... thanks for posting bones :-)

  • Is it just me or does Neil play the drums differently here than in Rush in Rio?

  • Well it is a different show.....

  • I know, its just that Rush is usually very consistent night to night. I believe Neil played whole sections differently in this compared to Rio

  • I think this is a song that neil tends to improvise and jam on alot more than anything else.
