However, an investigative committee searched the premises, spoke with witnesses and clients and examined Frank's banking history to see if he seemed to be earning an alternative income (prostitution, in this case). After all of this research, the committee held a hearing and determined that Barney Frank had no involvement in the prostitution within his house.

My point is, just as the jury can never know 100% that Frank was not guilty, you can never know 100% that he is. Using a situation like this where a man was found innocent by a peer jury, especially with loaded words that attempt to make him appear guilty is misleading and low-handed.

No, I don't believe the word has always referred to gay men. However the word now defines a character type when certain negative attributes are fastened to it. It's usage is all about context and some people are way too concrete with language to understand when its a statement about homosexuality or just a rude name.

When you say "that's so gay", it's because you are saying that something is bad, stupid, ugly, etc. You are therefore associating all of these negative traits with being gay. I was referring to people who use it negatively. Ever heard the phrase "that's so gay"? But stereotypes assume that these traits are true for all gay men. This is not the case, not even with a majority of gay men.

I believe that certain stereotypes exist because the gay men who do fit the stereotype are very overtly flamboyant and feminine. I don't think that there is anything bad about this, but they do attract a lot more attention because they are so different from societal expectations of how men should behave. Gay guys who are more "straight-acting" are generally not as easily identifiable as gay and therefore people don't associate their behavior with being gay.
