I was fortunate enough to see Arthur perform live many, many times between 1970 and 2004 and every time I listen to his music I am reminded how badly the world misses his talent. When I shook his hand and thanked him for his music after an open-air gig in England, he hugged me and said "Well thank you, sir". A true genius. Everyone who appreciates that fact has a responsibility to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience the joy his music brings.
hah hah hah there is no other purpose for all of us( in this so-called life).... but to CeLeBRaTE., and love......, and live,... and EnJOY LIFE. ..Am I not right ???
@blue222blue I am always happy but what has that got to do with anything ? don't say things to make ME happy. You said they weren't rich and famous first of all. The daft thing wasn't you writing that bit, but saying they (deserved it) "so much more than most who did". That was the stupid thing to write because it's glib, vague and generalised
OK, my remark was not utterly precise. The doesn't make it stupid.
I think most people got my meaning. These guys made rich, complex, interesting music, and they struggled. Unlike the many, many under-talented pop stars who rake in millions and millions.
I'm sure you're happy in your life. I meant happy with the clarification of my remark, obviously. How could a grammar Nazi, even on a music thread, miss that? :)
@blue222blue It doesn't matter whether or not I 'got' your meaning. You wrote that 'most' who got rich and famous didn't deserve to.You know that would need further clarification. You don't write what you mean. As I say, you writing 'happy now ?' is just like blaming me cos you wrote something you didn't mean which in turn was vague, glib and generalised.
@Roggiedodgie Where the fuck did YOU come from with something to say about two OTHER people's discussion ? (more than a whole MONTH after I last commented, Lol) Have you had your head up your ass or just been smoking to much stuff ?
@TheKenfig I've had my head up my ass! And it smelled pretty bad in there, and this is where I found myself- watching a "Love" video. That's where the frick I came from! I don't smoke STUFF.
wow im definatly ordering this cd just found out about them i was reading about them and the doors and i never heard of them than i searched them and didnt think they were gonna be much cause there not burnt but hey the guitarist is so melodic and has good tempo just love that sound so 60's
Arthur lee never sold out ! he wasnt obsessed with fame ! if he had been he would have been the BIGGEST star of the sixties !!!!! NOBODY SOUNDS AS GOOD VOCALLY, THEN NOW AND PROBABLY NEVER GOING BY TODAYS STANDARDS !!!! WHEN U ARE AN ARTHUR LEE FAN EVERYTHING ELSE SOUNDS LAME !!! ONLY JUSTIN HAYWARD COMES CLOSE !!! NONE OF THE BEATLES DO VOCALLY !!! NOT EVEN LENNON !!! TO ME ARTHUR LEE IS MORE UNFORGETTABLE !!!
Amazing that this song was kicked off Forever Changes, and the rather dull "Old Man" stayed on. Go figure. And where did that home movie footage of Lee come from?
I think youre right on there...i also agree with the other comment about Old Man...that could have been left off...it would still work well as a 10 track album
Such a lovely song. I love the tropical tone and vibe. Their songs are timely and timeless at the same time. It's one of the great ironies of popular music that they never made it big during their time: you couldn't think of a more '60s band.
So glad i saw him a couple of times back in 02/03. Arthur really was different class & this track is real special to me as it reminds me of my beautiful daughter.
from what I read Arthur really hated the commercialism involved in that concert. It was also put on by his nemesis, Lou Adler who stole the name of his band, the grass roots, prompting them to change their name and eventually settled on LOVE... I seriously doubt drugs had anything to do with it. But I agree, had they performed they would have stole the show and love would be a household name!.

wow, never heard this song, and considering how much time i've spent with Forever Changes playing (a looooong time over the years) its great to hear. real punchy horn lines and as always beautiful harmonies. Arthur Lee was a gifted man.
THANKYOU so much for uploading this video/song! I LOVE IT SOO MUCH!
[Btw I'm 19 lol, this came out wayyy before I was born hahah I'm surprised I even know about it!] The Oldies rule. All this new shit they call music doesn't even compare to all these wonderful tunes.
This song was, unfortunately, not included in the acclaimed album Forever Changes. But it is such a great and simple song and it definitely deserves attention. If there is one great and unnoticed song in the world, this is it.
@lennon757 Arthur recorded a simpler arrangement of the song as 'I Do Wonder' for his 1981 solo album "Arthur Lee". If you haven't heard it, I'd recommend it more than this earlier version.
Fortunately the song is still available on Amazon and iTunes.
This cat is like Tom Jones but to crazy hippy lyrics. But they get better. Damn Love gets a lot better. No more of this pop mod stuff... straight to experimental-beatlesq'e style. Why does this 67 video shift to a 1970s version of LOVE when they finally hit the top of the charts? You see a huge difference in their style but not their performance because of the original track. Now play andmoreagain or one 7&7 or Alone Again from their 70s period. The tempo changes and it becomes metal
brilliant video !!!! its great seeing all this rare footage !!!! too few people realise how greatly arthur lee shaped modern music !!!! syd barrett was massive fan as was jim morrison and robert plant. the rolling stones were influenced by SHE COMES IN COLOURS to write SHE`S A RAINBOW. he invented hip hop with BUMMER IN THE SUMMER and punk with 7&7 IS and his old mate JIMI HENDRIX almost made an album with him !!!! IMAGINE THAT !!!!
Damn! FOREVER CHANGES is probably my favorite album of all time, but I had no idea this song existed until now. Arthur Lee was an unappreciated genius in his time -- glad that he lived long enough to get some recognition for his incredible talents from a new generation of fans. Thanks for posting this!
This has 1967 written all over it, takes me back. Maybe because it reminds me of Forever Changes.

Too bad they didn't become rich and famous. They deserved it so much more than most who did.

Fine. They made enough money to take drugs. And they were sort of rich and sort of famous for a short period of time.
Happy now?

The world wasn't ready for Arthur Lee. He's being more discovered now than ever.
What a late legend.
I remember when 7 and 7 Is, first hit the L.A. airwaves in 1966. I was completely blown away.
If they would have followed through with the invitation to the Monterrey Pop Festival in 1967, the whole world would have known Arthur and the band.
I guess drugs got in the way at that point in time. What a shame.
