  • at least we didn't genocide all indians...

  • Come on you have asked this question twice i gave you two you have to admit now. XD

  • @jobhopper1: didn't expect to see you here ;)

  • @perp1exed Guess we both click on the vids on the right of our screen ;)

  • name a country that hasn't been involved in slave trading? How do you think the Ottomans maintained a firm grip on the "middle of the world", that necessitated the Europeans to go another route? Slave trade. There were slaves in Africa and Asia at the time, and always had been.

  • @skydome29 Liechtenstein

  • @jobhopper1 well, your right but one that's not a European Microstate, or microstate anywhere.

  • @skydome29 South Sudan

  • @jobhopper1 Haha doesn't count because they were part of Sudan, who had to sell their POW's somewhere, Sudan was also part of the islamic slave trade.

  • Dutch modern day wealth doesn't come from slave trade. It did a long time ago (golden age). But face it after many years several invasions etc, the only things left are a few buildings and some peaces in museums.

  • Yes gut film maker...

Queen Beatrix sayes sorry every year to the Surinam people.

I don't like her neither but stay to the facts.

  • @AFCAUltra I don't want you to be rude, but our royal family said sorry to have ruled them, but not say sorry to them about the slavery which took place there. Anyway why should our Royal Family say sorry about history they didn't were able to change history about it. Don't make them responsible for those crimes.

  • i love my country, they do not have to appologize for something that happend in acient times.

  • MostBlacks(Africans)are prepared to forgiveEuropeans&move on,but the perpetual denial, constant falsifications of history&shifting the blame of such an atrocious deed(slave raiding)is just disgusting&at best annoying to the ears!Even after SlaveRaiding&economic looting(colonization),Africans were later ridicled&kept as HumanZoo in all European cities(the last was in Paris in1958)DoU realize that a guy born in1950 in Suriname might have been held in the arms of a 77yr,grandmom born a slave in1873?

  • These no good whites will one day have to pay for wickedness they have done to black people. Fuck Netherlands.

  • @adz09ish then you fuck America too

  • I personally like Netherlands among European countries but I didn't know this dark side of them.. Mmmm.. I thought their wealth came from their diligent characteristics.. would apology be enough for their sorrow?

  • great document, but something is missing, the so called black leaders at the villages in africa were "also" exchanging their own people for goods with the dutch/portuguese/brits. That's a fact. Why don't they apoligize to their own people?

  • @nickfl1980 Because what goes around comes around. They are mired in poverty, religious violence, superstition and HIV now. I think they've suffered for their actions. We're not talking about them, we're talking about Europeans -- the same who the Chinese called "red headed devils" due to their callous ruthlessness.

  • Check your facts Thekassie1987. The VOC didnt participate in slave trading, it was the WIC who transported the slaves.

  • As a Dutchmen I find it perticulary painfull that the government (and thus the queen), has not yet apologised for the slave trade. It causes a lot of unnecessary resentment and grief.. although I might add that there was a discussion a few years ago in Parliament, where the notion of the VOC mentallity was adressed as 'positive' by our prime minister.. it followed by widely shock and surprise both in the government as in the social media.

  • No European bought any slaves! It's like accusing theJewish Kapo's in Conc.Camps who had to do whatever it took to survive as nazi-collaborators!Go to Leiden Museum&ask for anAkan king who was decapitated by theDutch b'cos he captured&killed a Dutch governor(slaves raider) in his cities! KingTerrifon ofDahomey was exiled by the french toElba,AkanKing Prempe was exiled toSechelles&Queen Y.Asantewaa was exiled toSt.Helena! All were fighting to stop Euro.MilitarySlave capture! documented!

  • Typical Dutch confusion over the use of compound words, such as "Trans-atlantic slavetrade" instead of "Transatlantic slave trade," indicate this video has a Dutch (speaking) origin. However, the Netherlands were not a monarchy during the 17th and 18th century, the country was known as "the" Republic, so emphasis on monarchy seems somewhat misplaced.

  • @ClemvSt Yeah the brothers white where the rullers in 18th century I could be wrong of the date of years

  • He's twisting the facts & pointing an evil finger at the Dutch. Every1 had slaves; they didn't do anything other countries didn't do. They just did it better. U can’t blame them for being good for something that was ‘normal’ in that day. Every1 knows 2day that slavery is wrong. In those days it was an accepted practice all over the world. This guy is putting our modern morals& thinking over something that happened in the past. I hope u question this other than blindly believing his poop!

  • @tazytalia Slavery was endemic to humanity. Chattel slavery was a European creation. Stop trying to buy your way out of it. I hope some psychotic, vegan, animal-loving, artistic, non-smoking, part Jewish madman overruns your country again in less than five days this time.

  • And besides, if you look at the data, you will see that the Dutch controlled 5 PERCENT of the transatlantic slave trade between the 16th and 19th centuries.

  • Anachronism.

  • The film maker doesn't claim there was a royal dutch family during the golden age, he's talking about the ancestry, and later on the royal family is in charge of the Netherlands when slave trade is still taking place. This documentary is based on facts. And FYI: the film maker is Dutch, not an American.

  • @pleenhouts Ik heb er eens goed naar gekeken en ik heb er maar een woord voor over: gelul.

  • You know,I don't know where people that make films like this get their facts from.First of all, everyone knows today that slavery was wrong. But in those days it was an accepted practice all over the world.Putting our modern morals over into the past simply doesn't work.Second, most historians say that the total of Dutch slaving was maybe 10 to 20% of the total Atlantic slave trade.Third, during the days of the slave trade the Netherlands was a Republic not a Kingdom.

  • I'm from Curacao and i'm proud :)

  • black page yes but we are not being stupid about it al of us dutch people know about it and every boby is teached about it to prefent it from ever hapening again

  • This vid is based upon true events, that much is clear. However, it largely ignores every non-Dutch slave trade, to make the point that the Dutch are evil or something.

  • Godamnit this guy keept mumbling about slave trade... He can better tell us more about how our country defeated France, England, 2 German provinces and Sweden...

  • this is verry extreme, we all had slaves. and it wasnt all the income of holland!

  • The traiding organisation is now the world bank and WTC'S !!! The stocsetivicaat is still in hands of the VAN DUYN FAMILY . Queen beatrix is not the real bloodline . The first ANGLO DUTCH EMPIRE WAR with england they win and put the VOC BANK from amsterdam to londen now non as Corporated city of londen what is a one state and do not belong to england buth is part of the hiden empire that rull all of us . The ANGLO DUTCH EMPIRE is still with us ans is now also none as THE NEW WORLD ORDER .

  • Basicly what the documentry says is all true, but unless it's part of a series that also shows slavery amoung other European nations as well as the Americans, Arabians and native Africans themselves it's very biased and fingerpointing towards the Dutch.

    Very 'American'

  • Rot op mozaking....Het is NOOIT jullie schuld..Smerige cultuur!!!! Afgestudeerd??? NU NOG MENSELIJK WORDEN!!!!

  • Rot op mozaking....Het is NOOIT jullie schuld..Smerige cultuur!!!!

  • I don't understand all this commotion. I'm Dutch and in school we learn enough abouth slave trade and English dominance. Why all foreigners telling us how the Netherlands is built. I think that we dutch know it a little better dan americans

PS : The Danish were te first to abolisch slave trade.

  • @juliorichardsable

Yep. He quotes directly from Jewish sources. Lots of them.

  • To bad they missed a few spots about the WIC... it was first started as a military organisation against Spain...

  • oh come on America was just as bad as we are. if not worse. I mean we sold the slaves to YOU. so it could've been stopped by the americans. it's like demand and supply. besides I think we've been forgiven by many african-americans :)

  • Hence the commotion that occurred when former Dutch prime minister Balkenende refered to the "VOC spirit" as an approach that would help the Netherlands get over the financial crisis.

  • check the david duke video about the truth on slavery

  • i think they enjoy being white devils.they originated in caves where they canibalized one another, yes they were animals.

  • 4:22 African slaves sold for $100.

~Nowadays, African child slaves sell for about $30. Interesting devaluation of life equation.

4:53 "Profits were so high, merchants didn't even bother to reload their ships at all."

~Probably the same with modern maritime human traffickers.

6:12 "Forced to work on the same plantations...to avoid collapse of the...sugar industry..."

~So, blueprint from sugar industry to today's chocolate industry--particularly Hershey corruption, see "Hershey Heist".

  • Interesting history of the seat of International Courts of Justice, Hague, etc.

They still have a huge human trafficking problem. Legalizing drugs & prostitution has only increased demand from sex tourists and drug tourists, so Netherlands once again great supplier of slaves. Modern "Triangle Voyage".

  • @poodlesusan thats not true i live in the netherlands and there arent any drug tourist or drug shops and drugs are ilegal

  • @dinoman1997 umm, drugs are illegal? It's not legal, but it's not illegal either...

  • @poodlesusan Because of our location and our backwards laws in that respect.

  • This must be an American documentary... renouncing all involvement (Brasil and Suriname as main buyers, and sainy spanish america was the soul source of market), while n fact over 80% of the slaves went to work on the american cotton industry!

And by the way, America abolished slavery after Holland did... But thats what you get from an american documentary.. Thank god for Wikileaks

  • Het klopt niet wat betreft het percentage van de slavenhandel. Nederland had maar 5% van de markt in handen. Betekent niet dat het daarom minder erg is.

Vergeet niet slavenhandel is van alle culturen van alle tijden.

  • I was only taught about the WIC, or rather, our bad chapter in history. Because they teach kids about slavery and how it's a terrible thing more than about the WIC.

I understand the controversy around slavery, but The Netherlands didn't do anything the other wealthy countries didn't do. We just did it better.

  • wij zijn heer en meester over de watervloot! ( dutch )

  • Born in the Netherlands, I naturally, have a perspective. I left at the end of 6th grade, for Australia. I don't know what secondary and tertiary students were taught, re: "The Golden Age". I suspect that it's a good thing that this perspective re this part of history is out here. It makes us THINK about counter-arguments re: the wrongs and rights done by the Dutch. I hope that visitors to this account of history will look into the KNOWN facts about that era, as UNEMOTIONALLY as possible!!

  • More than half of America is built upon slavery. The Portugese were the first to use the triangular trade route and we do learn about de WIC at school. I do not think you can claim that our Queen or our government should apologise for the historical need of slaves by your nation.
