tradeteam1"I'm not depressed. Great fight!!! Tommy just couldn't handle Hagler's edjucated pressure and bailed out."..RESPONSE..i don't know about "bailed out" he(Hearns) was overpowered by a guy(Hagler) in his prime and felt he had something to prove. He did. That may of being Hagler's best time in his superb career.
Hagler stepped on Hearns foot deliberately the entire fight. He steps on Hearns left foot then Hagler throws a hook, Hearns stumbled backards because he couldn't get his foot loose. Watch the video. Hagler throw repeated low blows, he would have been disqualified today.
Hagler is the man in thus fight! what can u say.he's got nothing to prove. A great career! One of the best middleweights ever. I say this knowing what a great champion Hearns was.
Two giants of the sport! Hagler was such a tough guy and don't forget a southpaw.Take nothing away from Tommy . He has nothing to prove. History has seen to that and Hagler with that great sport shot of being carried around the ring with steam coming off his head. Sugar Ray puts a stop to Hagler in a squeaky, still debated fight and Hagler retires to France and never fights again. What a great scrap. Thanks!
Tommy should've come out boxing in the first round the way he did the second. Use his reach and long left jab to measure Hagler and set up the big right. He tried to start boxing in the 2nd but by then his legs were done and his right hand was useless. It was only a matter of time before Hagler put him away.
I would've loved to seen a rematch the next year.
Hagler done what he had to do! He knew he never had the skills of hearns, so he had to go after him and finish him early. If the fight had gone on, no doubt hearns would have won. But, full respect to hagler for fighting like a true warrior!
Yeah, Hearns busted his hand in the Benitez fight as well, but he was able to box his way to a decision. If he'd been able to box two or three more rounds in this fight and work Hagler's left eye, they would have stopped it on cuts. So Hagler knew he had to finish quick and he got it done.
no skills, not until you have put gloves on and step into a ring and try the same 'brawling' would u realise that in the fight it was the most explosive first round many a boxing fan has ever seen. The skill was awesome
I grant you. But I still think that even if Hearns hadn't broken his right hand (on Hagler's face by the way), he would have had to box to beat Marvin. And Marvin always got stronger in the later rounds. I don't think Hearns could have kept Hagler away for more than 10 rounds if both were 100%.
Hearns never beat Leonard. Leonard stopped Hearns in 14 rounds in 1981 and the two fought to a "draw" in 1989, although everyone who saw that fight thought Hearns won it, and Leonard himself has stated that Hearns deserved to win.
Good point albeit I still think he was capable. TH had a great heart but he wore the thinking cap on backwards in terms of managing his career as business. But that made him a classic fighter. He lived to box, not to have his face on T.V. like Leonard. TH had guts and heart like Pete Rose and class like BSanders.
Sugar Ray Leonard WHAT!!!

It would've been a great fight if Hagler wasn't fighting so dirty.

Yeah, Shows you how great of a fighter Hearns was. He fought w/pure heart in the last two rounds. He had absolutely no legs AND a broken right hand.

Hadn't Hearns broke his right hand toward the end of round one?
