  • As an Iraqi I must say I really like Maliki!

He isnt an extrimist or pro sunni/shia!

He is perfect for the country, but some arabs (mostly not EVEN Iraqis) think that he is a puppy to the americans, but you ignorent cavemen should stop think that everything you say is right and everything is wrong, start to live in democracy!

  • The Bible says that in the Last Days there will be those who will deny the coming of Jesus Christ and at the same time they will deny Creation and the Flood as recorded in the Bible. With such denials prevalent today, do you think we are living in the Last Days?

  • .. but you have to love the accents :)

  • this is so biased towards sunni secterism. Like there is NO OTHER group policing the streets, only sunni groups backed by the US. But it's al jazeera so what else would you expect

  • Many people think that the fighting with mahdi army was only over because the fighters pulled out, but the information most people dont get is whats really happening, there is no actual "truce" between the government and the sadrist, the iraqi army kept launching raids and arresting militia men even with the "truce", the mahdi army has dissapeared after the massive operations.

  • Al Maliki well knows that he cannot sustain power [ and how much actual, effective power he has remains in question]unless he can mollify the Sadrists [ see McCains difficulties with US conservatives]. That he would risk alienating the foreign government that props him up speaks volumes. That US foreign policy is at the mercy of a range war between Al Sadr and Maliki puts the lie to any notions of success.

  • Trust me, right now it's important for the Iraqi people to learn basic principle of democracy. If you don't like your leader, you have a new way to try and get rid of him without turning your entire region into a warzone. Go out and try to change people's minds to make them vote the way you vote. If both parties are corrupt get off your ass and make a 3rd party. You aren't corrupt are you?

And if the guy you hate wins the election, support him anyhow. Give him time to work. Or disgrace himself.

  • Yes, we see how simple it is to start a third viable party in the U.S..

    LOL

Those in power never, I repeat NEVER want to give up that power.

  • screw anyone who says maliki is a puppet of the US in Baghdad, the last person to be America's man in baghdad is him. Hes shown himself not to be sectarian, hes weakened the sadrists, hes won the support of the sunni blocs in parliament and now he can finally focus on boosting oil prodction and implementing reconstruction projects.

  • Are you on the US government propaganda payroll? Seems like it!

Al Maliki didn't defeat the Sadrists; Moqtadr Al Sadr stood them down willfully. He's protecting his own plans for the elections later this year. Only fools would write Al Sadr off.

And Al Maliki only has Sunni support because the US taxpayer is paying for it.

What has Al Maliki done contrary to US wishes? The fact that he is objecting to the Strategic Forces Agreement is a matter of survival, as outright acceptance is untenable.

  • i dont support the bush administration, i think its time for the americans to leave. I realize im talking to a sadr supporter here, so i guess u believe in using civilians as human shields in battles against the americans and gaining votes by intimidating ppl that live on less than a dollar a day in sadr city.

The awakening work for the government, the US simply pays for it and Tarek al hashemi (sunni) is putting his bloc back into parliament.

btw maliki now supports US troop pullout.

  • lastnymleft, your wrong. the iraqi government issued a law which prohibits any political party with a militia to participate in the elections, that includes the Sadr bloc. Maliki is very intelligent and I support him, the security has improved dramatically and the government is becoming stronger every day, now even the arab countries are turning to Iraq. Today he called for a timetable for US withdrawal and that will earn the support of many countries and the people of iraq as will.

  • He is going to be dead as soon as the Crusaders are forced to withdraw.

  • Maliki is Bush's manservant

  • He seems like a smart man. He knows he has to appear independant of the Americans to his own people/ He knows he has to BE independant asap because when the Americans decide to pull out of Iraq, that's it, he's on his own.

History dictates that the moment america leaves one of his generals will overthrow him and recreate a dictatorship.

The problem with forced democracy is that the people don't want it bad enough to fight against tyrant dictators for it.

  • thats right, the arab countries dont give a toss about iraq, cos they dont want iraqs emerging democracy to spread to their autocratic dictatorships and monarchies. Thats why they dont control their borders, so that foreign fighters can carry on ruining iraqs progress.

  • Al Maliki is right, if the Arabs are so worried then they should play a constructive role in Iraq instead of sending terrorists to our country and begging the US to overthrow the democratic government and install another dictatorship which the Arabs will love, because it goes with their backward culture.

  • At least Nuri al Maliki is an elected leader unlike all the other leaders in the region.
