@DJPSILOCYBIN For short pieces you have to use the thermal cut method where you score the tube, place a drop of water on the score, then heat a small glass rod white hot and place it over the drop of water.
@carcrusher420 Water, as being polar, quickly migrates to even the smallest dents in the score and aids in creating additional clean stress in the glass, so the whole thing breaks evenly.
perfect! thanx a lot man. that's just what i needed to know. i really appreciate u taking the time to upload this. i was about to waste some cash on a special tool i didn't need. seems like u found the best way to do it :)
I flame break 25 and 32mm without too much problem, I want to try this on 44mm super heavy wall, and larger, I have never gotten this to work well for me, I have even scored woth a diamond bit in a dremel, trying to get it deep, you make this look easy!-)
The score has to be a sharp V shape and fairly deep. Using a 3 corner file or a dremel won't work well because the valley will be rounded instead of a sharp V. About a year ago I tried grinding a groove all the way around a heavy wall tube and it wouldn't break. All the glass dust probably wasn't a good thing either :-)
Nice video Timia! I score and snap my tubing as well. What Iv'e done to save time and get two even haves, is to mark on my bench with a pencil; 30 inches from the corner of my bench. So everytime I go to score a full tube or rod, I place one end of the tube at the corner of my bench and score at my pencil mark. This will eliminate having to use a tape measurer each time you go to snap a tube.
I love the sign on your locker behind you, it speaks volumes!!

@hamboney9 A carbide knife made for scoring glass.

what is the purpose of the water on the score?
carcrusher420 1 year ago
Some feel you get a cleaner break with less force by wetting the score.

The largest tubing I've tried is 40x3.0. That's about the limit of what I can work with my Barracuda. Let me know how it works on 44x4.0 or larger.
