@Domchilled brother ...THAT FUCKED ME UP RIGHT THERE VIEWING THIS VID....I THOUGH THE SAME THING...YOU THINK HE WAS CONVEYING A MESSAGE TO ALL OF US WHEN HE WASFLIPPIN THIS SAMPLE?
@brandonbanks32278 actually yes. ill explain. "is death real?" dilla contemplates his own humanity and if death is really real because he's never experienced it and he's anxious if not frightened by his mortality. "youre gonna want me back...youre gonna need me" were going to want him back when he's gone.
I believe we need more producers like J Dilla, 9th wonder, Pete Rock, Charles Hamilton (just type in "freedom hamiltonstrumentals") instead of some of these others that just put bass in their tracks with no samples
@Doublef1996 I'm not saying he makes bad music but I remember this one guy made a video and hamilton seriously sounded crazy he made up his own religion based of sonic the hedgehoh
@MILLSPRO123 What do you mean by relevant, I'm in a facebook group that makes better music than Lex Luger or any of these other bass heavy producers. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but they're made for the Waka in you
@Doublef1996 some say i sound like dilla. but i dont think so... but i mean relevent as in mass apeal like it did before.. i love real music.. but its like hardly anyones intersted. i dont know.
People Just blaze sample this back in 03-04 dillad sample it 05-06 don't believe it look it up apriciate the music their both genious producers r.i.p. dilla
You better STOP (pause) and think about what you're doing! You can tell he was saying goodbye on the entire album actually. This is one pure example of it.
Will you Go to Heaven when you Die?(Here's a quick test) Have you ever lied, stolen, committed adultery(Jesus said if you even look with lust it's adultery) Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? Be honest. You know you will be guilty and end up in Hell. But God is not willing That Any perish. God loves us so much He sent Jesus Christ to suffer and die on the Cross and He rose from the dead. Today, Repent(Confess and Forsake your Sins) and trust in JESUS Christ then read the Bible and Obey it.
@ImDino Well Both are adaptations of the 1973 Dionne Warwick song “You’re Gonna Need Me” /watch?v=XYDtnEt0UQU. So its more of question of which adaption you prefer, and less whether dilla copied blaze. Personally i prefer Stop, as i see it more as a piece that flows well in his donuts album, and the way he alters Jadakiss's vocal’s to say "is death real” is really quite poignant when you remember he created the track literally on his death bed.
@ImDino haha dilla is far from overated. most casual audience's do not know who he was, and he generally received less praise and acknolowegment than other producers of the 90's. However i would agree that, after his death he has been hyped up, but this usually occurs when artists die.
my old man used to play Dionne's original all the time when i was young and when i heard Dilla i was gobsmacked and it is now one of my fav songs! The man was a genius and we should all be grateful to have had him in our live especially with the state of the scene now a days! God bless Dilla, his family and all those who have been touched by his music....RIP Dilla, make um clap up there!
Radio... Same Songs... Same lack of Substance... Its not about the music it's bout keeping the mindless listener tuned in long enough to hear the commercials..
thekipkadelliac,,,,glad you dont get it,go listen to the stuff thats in your comfort zone as this shits real, were keeping it for ourselfs, dilla would laugh at your comment,,,,jog on and jd rest in beatz
@brits72 Actually I don't think you get it. He's not knocking the beat. He's making fun of mainstream hip hop and how it's sold out to be some tired lucrative scheme instead of embracing the music. Don't read the quote for what it says. Read the quote for what he means.
thekipkadelliac,,,,glad you dont get it,go listen to the stuff thats in your comfort zone as this shits real, were keeping it for ourselfs, dilla would laugh at your comment,,,,jog on
This is immense! The little touches on Donuts make it the record it is, it's music that really makes you feel something. For all the genius of the man and the incredible way he made records like 'the worst band in the world' become something brilliant, it's the small things like the vocal over the climax of this track that get me every time.
@MoneyBlocc868 I somehow think this song has a more personal meaning OR a dual meaning. 1 meaning for those who didn't acknowledge his skill. Maybe 1 for someone he held close, intimate feelings for. "Is death real?" Was he trying to say, hell yeah it is?! Was he saying it is fastly approaching? "U're gonna need me 1 day." Maybe u're gonna want to remember our last moments together. Then, "STOP think about"...AND-->"GIVE a little back my way!" that last part makes me wonder 4 sure.
Man fuck this beat. There isn't any auto-tune on it.There are no brand names mentioned so now this doesnt help me decide what to wear. Where is the exploited young girl that is forced to sing shitty hooks?WHERE!?This song has way too much soul and I do not fuck with that shit.I only fuck with the soles of shoes. sheeeeeeeeeit. Plus this song can't be that great,I never heard it on the radio.and radios are definitely not owned by greedy piece of shit corporations using Rap as 3 min. commercials.
This is why I LOVE sample based tracks. Pure love. Just Blaze did a great job with this sample too.
