  • 27 Jan 2012 and I have just discovered Shawn. Where the bloody hell have I been and why have I been denied years of enjoying her music. Gonna make amends this evening by downloading as much as I can. Buggeritalltohell.

On the plus side of course she is wonderful. God bless.

  • She is amazing and a kindred spirit.

  • I could just look at her forever...

  • beautiful voice!!!!!!!!!

  • Unreal!

  • Shawn, oh Shawn!! One of the purest voices, singers, songwriters EVER!!

  • i love her sooo much since i was kid...now i love her mooooore

  • njoyed this great album in downloadmusic .im

  • Saw her do this live about 12 yrs ago @ Lilith Fair Toronto...liked her best of all over Cheryl Crow, Sarah McLaughlin,,etc..because her set was wicked....

  • Saw hwe do this live about 10 yrs ago @ Lilith Fair Toronto...liked her best of all over Cheryl Crow, Sarah McLaughlin,,etc..because her set was wicked....

  • If only she'd lived on the beach with us ;-)

  • I only started to re-listen to her on youtube. Before I only knew the studio stuff. True artists you can see all the different variations of life and emotions live. Some musicians you would rather hear the CD studio version because they just try to replicate just that.

She will be a singer and songwriter of all seasons. I like hearing change! She is Awsome.

  • A great voice, check her out on YouTube doing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. This girl can do it all!

  • sunny came home naked...LOL

  • saw her in concert this evening. she was un freaking believable. she was so great and she sounded excactly the same live as she did on her cds.

  • She looks like a lawyer or politician. Not that there are anything wrong that.

  • pss...and just one song televised!

  • Sunny came home

  • I loved it. Damn she's cute.

  • Bliss! *****

  • great song.. really is.. saw her backstage at glasto, and was truly struck

  • this is actually the first vid that i have put onto my favorites list, wow

  • the best version, yes

  • I love the sound of her Martin guitar. I have a D18 and it's great. She can really play great. I just saw her at City Winery in NY. She was great!

  • love the d18, but that's not what she's got here, is it?

  • great stuff!!! even after all this time

  • Fucking brilliant song. I listened to this song so many times during the mid 90's when I was in high school.

  • Love you slc....from way back in Carbondale...keep on swimming lovely lady!

  • Nope! it was those crazy times at SIU in Carbondale that got you going. I miss those days dont you?

  • Always loved her! So many great songs, but my favorite to this day is still "Shotgun Down The Avalanche."

  • This was one of my favourite songs when I was little....amazing song

  • I go to her shows whenever I get the chance. She is brilliant in as a writer, as a musical composer, as a guitarist, as a person. She has successfully channelled her personal angst into music that reaches everyone and acts as a balm to our common miseries.

    Thanks Shawn!

  • Shawn Colvin is a voice you can never forget. I remember the first time I heard her on the radio. I had to pull the car over and just listen. She is my hero.

  • She is so talented and has such a beautiful, edgy voice. This is one of the songs that inspired me to start playing the guitar, so I will always love it.

  • It is a pity some folks have to ruin a nice thread about this womans music and use this space for rude comments. But this is life and the more nice things i can say about Shaun Colvins music than perhaps it will drive the rude marks further down the page and off. Then we can begin to warm up the space.

  • I love her. She is so real, so talented. Her songs are so moving. She has tapped into a true gift, which is the greatest blessing any of us can ask for.

  • And here all this time I thought she was an Austin girl. She fits in there anyhow!

  • pure magic

  • from what she mentioned, she does have good taste in music.

  • Is anyone more beautiful? Her voice? Her lyrics? Her phsyical beauty?

  • @mdtrierik I totally agree

  • @mdtrierik ..jabba the hut?

  • aenima187 dont forget yellow submarine haha

  • I like her cause it sounds like you'd hear her in some tiny coffee house somewhere and that is just awesome!

  • Great music...lovely voice, nice, confident playing (wow hat's clean sounding acoustic). I'm a fan as from now!

  • She's a great player and I love her songs. She plays Martins. She can come play my Martin D18 anytime. I'm still waiting for her to come over. Heh heh. :)

  • i love how calm she is as she sets her home on fire i love this song

  • I mean who is Sunny that she is talking about?.. and Why is she flyin to the wire?...

  • I came across a Shawn Colvin song today "I don't know why" and was quite taken by it. I searched some more and came upon "Sunny", which I realized I heard a lot in the past, but never really listened to the lyrics. So after a careful listen, here is my take. Sounds like Sunny is a woman not very happy with her life, probably in a daze as a result of pain inflicted by others, and is on the verge of doing something drastic thru fire, either as payback or just a way to end it all.

  • wow, is that what she realy mean?..Thanks Dude!..somehow i understand..Cheers!

  • i believe the line is...

"She says days go by I'm hypnotized

    I'm walking on a wire

I close my eyes and fly out of my mind

    Into the fire"

  • oh yeah ur right..walkin to the wire and fly out my mind into the fire..i jusr dont understand the song..sorry im stupid..:(

  • who cares she is a song writer it doesnt matter what she writes songs about I mean look at any beatles album sgt peppers for fuck sake

  • i dont unerstand the song..can someone explain?..

  • Shawn wrote this song herself :)

and I feel you, if I've had a bad day I look forward to coming home and listening to Shawn to just cry and release whatever emotion I may have bottled up inside of myself.

And actually, Shawn wrote this song about the cover of A Few Small Repairs. It's a painting by her friend Julie SPeed, a painter based in Austin, TX.

    Shawn's nothing short of amazing.

I'll be seeing her in Atlanta exactly 2 weeks from today and I'm THRILLED and in utter disbelief:)

  • she has manly arms...i had this song stuck in my head when i got home.. :D

  • great song, great cheekbones!!!

  • You can hear the Joni influence but that is no bad thing, Shawn is fantastic in her own right. A delight.

  • Shawn always seems a little awkward when she is talking but when she is singing and playing that

guitar of hers, she is awsome.

Loved her since I found out who she was. This clip is excellent.

  • great!

  • We're all blessed to have been around on this old rock when she was too.

  • I've said it once and I'll say it again:

This is THE best Youtube video EVER!

    :)

  • I'm not familiar with her material but the melody of this tune is pretty catchy and great

  • Shawn Colvin ROCKS ! She's been in my top 5 consistently for more than 20 years - ever since Steady On. Thank God for this style of music - it's fantastic story telling.

  • she is a very good musician as are others in different fields and no one should be judged on what we like. oh and oppinions are like assholes.... everyone has one!

  • I love her boots haha :)

  • Assalamu Aleykum Shawn !

  • thank God she did not sale out to the pop music, pop music is for losers.

  • Damn those are some sexy boots!

  • Wow - her voice is unbelievable, but the way she just delivers the whole story is really the best. This wasn't one of my favorites by SC until I saw this. Looking for more live stuff by her...

  • I've just started listening more to her music. It sounds so real, more like life and real feelings. Thanks.

  • great!

  • If you are talking about the Abbey Road sessions, check out nerina palott(idaho). . . . if you like this . . .you will love that. . . perfection to look at and listen to !. enjoy

  • I love hearing her especially when it's just her and her Martin guitar. Love her! She is such a great player.

  • god i wish i could play guitar like that.. gutted... she has a wonderful voice, excellent lyrics..

  • me too friend, me too ;)

    That's 40+ years of practice..

    Whoa.

But I'm not stopping untilI'm THAT good.

    Like James Taylor!

  • This is undoubtedly, THE #1 BEST video I've EVER seen on Myspace NO DOUBT.

The performance actually made me cry the first time but I really, truly appreciate Shawn's music more than so many others...

Sunny Came Home is on my Top 10 songs EVER!

    Wow, Shawn Colvin. WOW.

  • i really miss hearing to deep music like this...damn i miss the 90s

  • Loved listening to her talk and of course playing that fabulous song with her Martin. She is something else!!

  • I remember her playing her music in the clubs Like Merlins down at Southern Illinois University during the early to mid 1970's. I was a music major there at the time too. Even Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows were another group that became big. Good years back then that produced excellent musicians. She is living proof.

  • i olwiez play this song in my Gigs at the island!!

One of the best voice ive heard!!

  • Great honesty,

    great story, great lyrics, musicianship.

loved the original and i love this version.

dressed down performance but i could appreciate it wholly.

  • She looks amazing for 51

  • Superb musician. Folky goddess.

  • She's Amazing! Love this song.... I really have to listen to some more of her songs!

  • I guess it's more of a documentary...the slightly smaller guitar must be her "signature" model D-28 which isn't as bouncy as her old D-28...think what I reacted to was a Martha Stewart moment when she said she felt "right"...it's nice to see another piece of her personality. I wish someone would do a full documentary on her life/development.

  • Oh no! It was bound to happen...the packaging attempts by well meaning handlers/consultants to boost sales but it will alienate the hard core original audience that's grown with her. Where's the booming, ringing, inspired, driving D-28? The vocals were flat to say

the least and separated from the emotion that she usually goes within to connect with. Love her dearly regardless...thanks for the clip.

  • maybe i'm proving your point here, but i had never heard anything by Shawn previously, until i saw this last night, and i thought this was absolutely stunning. I'm now on a mission to collect the entire back catalogue. I feel gutted to have missed out for so long! As i say, maybe i'm proving your point, by boosting sales, but still, surely that's a good thing?
