No doubt about that, he doesnt have a "black" voice he has a soulful voice that is stereotyped for "black people" but artist like Christina Aguilera, Amy Winehouse, Adele all have those soulful voices too. the reasons why he isnt famous is because

1) He's Asian. America is so discriminating when it comes to the entertainment buisness

2) He can ACTUALLY sing. Notice, most people now a days are using that piece of shit autotune

3) He writes his own music, most companys that sign people write the songs for that certain person to sing. so when people write there own music, credit goes only to them and the other people loose money.
