I think I can settle this conversation. ethnically Arabs,Jews,Druids,Bedwins and other ethnic groups have been living in these lands for thousands of years. They all share a love for this food and utilize the chick pea as a major staple.
@TheGalo1973 chiciken breasts or lamb piled up on top of each other and grilled for hours, then cut up into thin slices and served on pita bread with garlic sauce and pickles :)
We are in modern times & the Greek community should be doing what all of the world are doing, calling a Gyros by its proper name: DONER KEBAB. Gyros is the Greek word for Rotating, as is Doner in Turkish. Because of a massive Greek community in the US and its backwoods views on Turks these guys have decided to take claim of a Turkish Dish produced by the Iskender Family in Bursa in the 1700's, because they use Pork in some does not give them the right to change its name.
of course, just like turks invented baklava and moussaka and every other food in the balkans/levant/anatolia.
don't forget turks were pastoral, they didn't keep farms so they must have stolen wheat/aubergines etc during their raids on christian/muslim/jewish villages right?
That does look very yummy. At the risk at starting a pointless youtube argument, shawarma is originally Turkish, known as "doner kebab". It was invented in the 18th century and spread to the middle-east, the neighbouring countries, and now popular in most parts of the world. Even the word 'Shawarma' is derived from the Turkish word, "çevirme", a synonym of 'doner', meaning 'turning'.
@selwynmarques this is not an Israeli food you dump...they already stole the land and now you want to give them the credit for other people food as well....RETARD PEOPLE
I have had shawarma in Turkey, Chicago, and in Israel, from both Arabs/Assyrians/Turks/Israelies/ and I must say this place is the best so far..made with female turkey and lamb fat on top which marinates it as it is turning..they also use some of their own secret spices, I think some gamba, paprika and a few others.
In turkey they used mostly chicken and the size of the thing was not even 1/4 of this one, and in the USA
they use beef and chicken as well...nothing compares with this one though.
in Egypt . it is made from sheep meat ... the best taste
