  • Thumbs up if you are lookin' for the song in cosmote comercial

  • Does anyone have the Glasgow version to post? Please?

  • @AriesRocker68:

The Glasgow version is not nearly so good.

If you like this, you should do a search for Paul Rodgers fantastic version of "Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever" which he performed as a guest live at the Four Tops anniversary concert.

  • When was this recorded. I'm assuming the time when lots of rockers in the 70's were getting into reggie. I.E. Clapton "I shot the sheriff". etc. Great song anyway.

  • @rfw45:

Paul was on holiday in Jamaica in May 1972 just after Free had re-formed when this was recorded.

  • Does someone can add liryc of this song?

  • @baarbi69

Unfortunately the lyrics do not appear on the CD cover, but they're not too difficult to hear.

  • When English is not your first language: Every day I look for something to believe in, But it seems to slip right through my grasp, Every morning when I wake up I'm still dreaming, And I seem to be no nearer than the past, I don't want to set the world on fire, I don't want to make you change your mind, I just wanna see you smile, Well they say that there's a joy for every sadness, Yeah - and I believe its true, Well they say that there's a joy for every sadness, But I just wanna say to you,
  • And the last two sections: -

I don't want to set the world on fire

I don't want to make you change your mind

I just wanna see you smile

    Let me see you smile

I just wanna see you smile

I don't want to set the world on fire

I don't want to make you change your mind

    Let me see you smile

I just wanna see you smile - yeah

  • As if I didn't already love this man... Paul, honey your art nourishes me and enriches my life. I'm smiling.

  • Thanks for this lovely lost gem.

Free had just finished their US reunion tour at NYC's Academy of Music on May 6, 1972 (supporting the Faces), when PR uwrote and recorded a Reggae song - at a time when most didn't even know how to spell that! Kudos for that alone!

I'm no Reggae fan at all, but this is such an uplifting, positive song with a summery feel to it - I just have to listen to it over and over.

The 2006 live version is just a so-so rock take, it lacks its orig. charme, IMHO.

  • Toots & The Maytals were the most soulful act to come out of Jamaica; people sometimes referred to Toots as the Otis of reggae music!

I idolised Free & Paul all my life and it's great that you posted this...

The connection must be Chris Blackwell's strong connection to Jamaica (Bob Marley etc), and I wonder how this happened? I'm sure Toots must have given his blessing to use his band, from one great singer to another... Reggae is not Paul's forte, but how cool to give it a try.

  • @dustybottoms10:

Paul was on holiday in Jamaica in May 1972 just after Free had re-formed when this was recorded, so it's possible that they may have just gravitated towards one another as fellow musicians.

  • This song is just perfect, I'm not big reggae fan, but it is so positive and optimistic that I can't believe anyone would not smile while listening to this

  • Love iT <3

  • Very beautiful singing!! :D

  • Simple and beautiful, and beautifully simple! Just like life should be...but who would believe it?!?! LOL.

    Shouting from a mountain-top...for the one I love...mmmmmm...x

  • A great Paul original with a great presentation. I have quite a bit of Free, and wanted that particular box set at one time. Perhaps I'll check out the more recent live version as well. Thank you for your effort, well done.*****

  • The live Glasgow performance of this song IS quite good, too. I wonder what made Paul dig it out? It's great reggae.

  • What a lost classic.

  • thanx u 4 uploading this wonderful song! I wonder when we'll discover all the sides of Paul's gorgeous voice... love him<3

  • blingin chewn what a discovery reggaefree4eva!

  • Adorei ♥

  • I love this song, this version is great. Thanks for sharing these songs/videos!

  • First time hearing this. What a sweet song. Paul fits in perfectly with this sound.

  • Yes I would love to hear any other reggae songs he made at the same time as this one.

I like Bad Company and early free, but I think it was during this time Paul Rodgers was at his most creative and artistic best, and his voice was at its best too.

There are no other bands that speak to my spirit like Free do, and have that ability to get you through any situation.

  • paul rogers is awesome. thanks for this vid. please post more PR/maytals stuff if you can. JLC

  • I truly wish I could, but sadly there is nothing else released. This song is listed on the 5 CD box set "Free: Songs of Yesterday" as "previously unreleased", but also states it was "rumoured to have been released in Jamaica but no evidence of that exists." The box set also includes a very detailed "Sessionology" recording history of Free and co 1968-1974. It includes for 9 May 1972 "I Just Want To See You Smile, Slow Coach, Funky Kingston (Paul Rodgers w/The Maytals)".

  • Therefore, there may exist somewhere unreleased "Slow Coach" and "Funky Kingston".

The Maytals were a popular Reggae band of the time, sometimes recording as "Toots and the Maytals", I remember them occasionally hitting the UK charts.

  • @professoricon:

Toots and the Maytals appeared at Glastonbury 2010.

They didn't play this song, but they did play "Funky Kingston" (without PR).

  • wow, this is amazing !!

i saw him sing it in glasgow in 2006, i thought the lyrics, and the style, were great, thanks for putting it up, PLEASE put up some more !!

  • Watch this space!

  • I will be, thanks !!
