  • I interpreted "yourself" in the title of this video to be a DIY job; when it clearly isn't. Years ago I had an attempt at body repairs on my old rusty mini, and even with guidance from a pro at the time, it ended up looking like crap. You're obviously very good at what you do, which is probably why you make it look so easy... and I know; it isn't!

  • how are you adjoining your roof ? ,,,peeling back the tape later and using a melter ??

  • what size air compressor do i use let me kno thanks

  • I thought this was going to be another hack do it yourself video. I was pleasantly surprised, awesome job, obviously you know what you are doing.

  • first of all you using "old" system , blending is done by different method , spray guns are old , you are using way to much material and time .

i'm tellin this because i'm a instructor for Standox paints and i use a lots of other stuf .

you have to tell people what pressure at the gun you use , what is the best method of application , is it conventional or water based color.........

  • @001MTR

This is Diamont Solvent basecoat. How do your preferred methods differ? Ya the guns in this are older, but so is the video.I thought I had a popup indicating pressure but maybe not. What training center are you at?

  • How to Paint Your Car Yourself

Ask a mexican, their garbage is ALWAYS painting something or defacing public property.

  • @koolbossjock

That's gotta be the oddest comment I've ever received .... I like it.

  • If you buy the cheapest plastic you can get your hands on, then yes the paint will flake off onto your job. If you put the plastic on the car with "this side up" facing down, you will flake paint onto your job. If you buy decent plastic, with the correct side facing out, you will not have a problem. You will also cut down on your masking time buy just doing a 2" perimeter tape, with the plastic to the tape.

  • Clear Fist.. hehehe...

  • Great shiet right there man! thanks!

  • You did it! You saved the car!

  • so after the paint how you buff the orange skin?? how i sand and buff thats my cuestion?

  • excellent repair

  • when you prepared it in 2min 30s it was still shiny there is no way it was done. when we prep for clear at work we use 800 grit paper 1000g and grey scotch bright and it takes more then 2 min

  • PAPA, IF I KNOW I NEED APPROVAL FOR MY COMMENT, I WOULD NEVER COMMENT. DONT PUT VIDEO,IF YOU DONT LIKE COMMENT FROM THE PUBLIC.

  • @ThePariss333

Sorry Friend, all my video's I thought had automatic approval. I like comments, especially negative ones..lol...its just been changed...no censorship here.

  • FIRST, I CANT DO THIS INSIDE MY GARAGE,SO I HAVE TO RENT A SPACE FOR IT

THEN,BUY ALL TYPE OF PAINT, DRESS FOR THIS KIND OF JOB,MASK, PISTOL,COMPRESSOR,ETC,ETC, THEN, TIME. WOW, I THINK IS BETTER PAY TO WHO KNOW THE JOB,AND THOSE WHO WENT TO SCHOOL AND SPEND MONEY TO GRADUATE. I THINK ITS BETTER PAY FOR THIS JOB.

  • Cheers for all the info and what are effectively "trade secrets"! Very useful for the DIYer like myself, looks a brilliant job you did there!

  • Great video, but how much would a dealer charge to remove some rust and repaint?

  • very nice and clean job.

    very profesional.

    bravo.

  • AND ITS GONE AMAZINGGGGGGG o_0 nice job now what would u recommend for painting a whole car. at home! by erm well myself! i would like to save money equipment etc?

  • nice job man...

  • its a good learning vid

  • There are several errors that our class has seen in your attempted "blend within the panel" When you are blending, don't you usually leave some of the original paint next to the adjacent panel? Where is the paper perimeter making so the plastic does not "shake" the paint off. Why did you clear entire panel when that was not needed on the first coat of clear coat? Just sayin....

  • @kbjerke279

ha, that's awesome my video got to be picked apart by a class! lol ... yes the last coat got a bit further then I'd of liked it to, it had more binder added in to increase transparency so if it made it to the edge color impact would be minimal. In the real world some things don't go as planned (i.e chasing a halo). Never had the plastic shake paint off, that's a pretty minimal concern but what can I say...sometimes ya just gotta grow a pair and roll the dice...lol

  • @kbjerke279

Now, since I used the base toner (BASF's BC100) as an orientation coat to help control the metallics and blend the color easier, it is then required 2 full coats of clear be applied over it to prevent the sun from breaking down the pigment in the BC100 which could cause a discoloration. I could have used an over-reduced clear rather then BC100 in which case only 1 coat of clear would have been acceptable (still 2 coats over any applied basecoat), but personal preference, either way

  • @kbjerke279 kbjerke your right about the paper i did that ONCE had the plastic right up to the panel and when i shot my clear some of the dried base shot onto the clear

  • Paint a motor cycle

  • there is not difference between parts of car ? the part painted and old part ?

i have a problem with 2 part of my car but all say: you must to do all car.

    it's true ?

  • very nice job this is the most information video i have found so far thank you very much for the help!!!!

  • very nice job this is the most information video i have found so far thank you very much for the help!!!!

  • I like this

  • most informative video so far, thks

  • informative video for those who don't know much about the process...

so what would a repair like this cost ?

  • i like it but how did you mix the paint and what was the mixer of the clear?

  • i like it but how did you mix the paint and what was the mixer of the clear?

  • Mind showing how to do stuff like this, without a professional booth??

  • Does the clear FIST coat come after the Tiger palm strike? just kidding man, thank you for educating enthusiastic noobs like me... :)

  • Nice job

  • great! a big help...

  • Good video for a noob like me. Thanks.

  • i like ( nice job)

  • Unbelievably helpful video thanks.

  • How many spray guns did you use for this job was it 2 or 3?

    Nice job, thanks for sharing.

  • Thank's man.I have learn something new.

  • How did the paint match up with the back door and the trunk and rear bumper?

If it was me i would of blended into the door.

  • @cosuinofdeath Does that mean you would be spraying part of the door too ?

  • @Perplexer1 yea but only enough of the door for a good blend but thern you would spray the whole door with clear coat

  • The first cc has to be also a full coat. And 1 layer bc less will make the cc shine better. Because more bc will soak more cc making it look matte. ;)

  • circular sanding motions with ALL sanding methods should be used, you can eliminate A LOT of theses steps just by using a circular motion and still get a gorgeous paint job. Many of you will say that is not true, but in reality, the many of these steps are used to cover up the "back and forth" scratches made with the block sander.

  • gotta love the "clear FIST coat " haha. just get a factory painted panel for less money and trouble.

  • nice job, clean, this makes me wanna paint my car lol

  • fabulous work....but why fix the fender without fixing the bottom bumper.... has a very visible area where paint has flaked off...maybe the owner was hard up for cash...

  • did you sand the clear after finishing? or is it pretty much good?

  • good job it looks fresh paint

  • nice explanations good body work and paint looks bad ass.

  • Love the movie...i`m a selflearned carbuilder that would love to learn more about bodywork on cars..what about makin a movie about the pain gun..how wide the nossle need to be for the different paintjobs and the spreading off the paint...??

  • yeah good job =) what kinda guns u had?....i wanna 2 buy one so bad .. =)

  • Nice video. Thanks

  • this is a paint body shop, not a how to do it yourself . not with all the professional equipment and 20 paint coat and sanding. change the video name.

  • Wow alot of work just for a scratch.

  • @MizzNizhoni That's what you got to do if you want it to look nice!

  • Wow a pontiac sunfire I mean what a stupid car. I just had to click on this video because that car so dumb

  • @SicTrance you,more,mongol

  • your blend job sucks. what about the bumper and door and trunk lid. faded?

  • What kind of see thru wrapping paper are you using?? the paint doesnt go through that or what? what kind of material is that?

  • Nice job man, i'm going to school for a double major Automotive/ Autobody. Wish i knew how to paint.

  • LIKE!

  • complicated ..... dislike

  • Great videos! =)

How long do you have to wait between each base coat?

  • can you actually do this without having a sprayer hooked up to an air compresser?

  • @theRealAlmostGodly Yes i also want to know that, please spill the beans :)

  • Do it my self? Forget it....

  • I need to paint a plastic side view mirror white ( it came in black) and I heard that I should use a promoter first then primer, and paint. Does that sound right to you? I can't afford to get it done professionally right now. Thanks

  • bat you use ppg ,rm du pont ecc

  • I can't say enough. This is the most professional job I have ever seen. All paint shops should learn from this. Thank you brother; much love to you for posting this video. Now I can emulate your techiques and do a better job on my own cars.

    Feri

  • what type of gun are u using

  • are you baking these coats or are they air drying?

  • How are they teaching us how to paint cars and no one is talking? I mean what the hell are they cleaning the car with?

  • DeVelbiss plus all the ay for clear. I dont really care for Iwata I think its all hype.

  • The damage was very small but he painted the whole panel! Wouldn’t it be easier to just stick a sticker on it (something like “I Love NY”) and make the car even trendier for a dollar?

  • i like this video it helped man thanks alot but just a few minor things, does the final coat of paint need to dry before applying the clear coat?...so a small recap, correct me if im wrong, sand the whole car down and apply filler where needed, sand all applied filler until its feather edged and blended properly to the metal and then apply prime then paint and clearcoat?..and this is off topic but is sealer an absolute MUST? and is it expensive stuff?

  • Nice work. I got a Fox Mustang I want to paint. I don't want to pay a shop thousands of dollars when I'm sure I can do it. Hardest part will be finding a suitable location to do it without interuptions :)

  • Thanks for the videos. Very helpful. I see that you put down three coats of the base and two of clear. Now, would it be beneficial to have more lighter-medium coats of each, rather than a couple of just wet coats (for both the base and the clear)? I have also heard that some people will set down a couple of clear coats, let it dry overnight, wet sand and then re-clear again. What is the benefit of this and would the clear be shot after sanding and cleaning or would you have to polish first? thx

  • I quit doing this 20 years ago. I should have stayed in it to keep up training. How much was the HVLP gun?

    Nice job on video.

  • i hate tht gun its tooo fkin slow!!!

  • thats whats up home boy pretty good job

  • top job enjoyed every minute of it, thanks

  • nice job! I'm thinking about respraying my whole car in the future... depends if i keep it or not. In the meantime I'm going to be repairing some minor dents and scratches and this video helped me a lot. thanks! :)

  • very well done ...I appreciate the result and safety measure: )

  • Awesome job!

  • clear fist coat< bwahahaha you are a pro at painting thou

  • clear fist coat... . bwahahaha

  • great video, it answered some questions of mine

  • best vids of this kind on youtube. nice to see there are still some pros left.

  • Excellent video mate and very helpful as i have just acquired a 20 year old Ford escort that needs a bit of minor filling and painting.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this for us,,,,hugely appreciated.

  • Better than the frikn' expertvillage.

  • this is motivation for me to want to paint my own ride thanks for the helpful vids man its appreciated

  • what to do if after painting there will be a paintdust what doesnt come of with washing.Does clay help?

  • I have done a bit of auto painting before. And I'm getting ready to paint my 40 ford pickup. Two tone black on top and green on bottom. It is going to be a base coat clear coat. I have been told that the base coat is just the color and it is the clear coat that makes your paint job. I was planning on using nason paint and Transtar High gloss clear on it. And a lot of wet sanding (from 2000 grit to 3000 grit) how close will that get me to it looking wet all the time?

  • @rcknrolfender79 I paint every day. Doing a 40 Ford truck. If you are using Dupont Nason Paint then i would use Dupont Nason Clear. Transtar wont last as long. You can but shouldnt mix producks. After the base is on and it looks good put on 2 med wet coats. trust me wet sand with 1500 and then buff. wasting time going to 3000. You can sand clear with 600 and then clear again. will realy git it deep. Good clear is the key high solvent is what lasts.

  • Hmmm all said and done it would probably be cheaper to pay someone than buy all those materials and equipement.

  • @MstrKey its only a air compressor, and spray can attachment for the end of the hose, which isnt much at all, besides the paint, mask, covering plastic, tape. ect.( which is also really cheap)

  • @demondude4444 Well if you already have the compressor I guess it's ok. I don't....so that's at least a couple hundred there. Plus the rig. You can get a decent paint job at macco for about the same. However, that being said, one could also make money if they invested in all that gear :) Repairing other people's cars lol.

  • man i wish i had a booth.

  • someone actually paid you to fix a freaking sunfire?

  • @tezgaa84

    my thoughts exactly

  • @tezgaa84

I have a 95 buick lesabre. But I'm going to pay someone to take out all the dings and dents, plus paint it

  • @geedunk13 Or just buy another 95 Lesabre in mint condition and save some $.

  • @tezgaa84 I agree, saw a mint 95 Lesabre on Craigslist for $1,700(118,000 miles).

I don't even think Maaco can do the bodywork and paint job on his car for less then that.

  • @tezgaa84 hahahahahaha so true...

  • @tezgaa84 ecotec ftw

  • @tezgaa84

the paint probably cost more than the car.

  • @00Mandingo00 in my situation you are tottaly right :)

  • @00Mandingo00 It is still cheaper than a new car.

  • @00Mandingo00 quarter panel bondo/paint only ran about $350 at the shop I worked at

  • @tezgaa84 hey man. work is work

  • how long does it take to finish the entire job>? how many hours 4 or 8 hours?

  • hey i wana fix a crack in my bumper and paint my bumper perl white again. what kind of items do i need. and do u have video to show me how to fix a cracke bumper?

  • Hi. for cellulose paint, how long between coats? does the 1st coat need to be thinned out more than the second one?

  • I paint my truck, but after paint I see spot. can someone tell me what I did wrong.

  • @MegaMeng86 you probably went to thin on a coating, either the paint or the finish

  • @MegaMeng86 you didnt let your sealer or your first coat set up long enough or you had contaminants in your paint

  • that was really helpful and i thank you!

  • how do u mix paint...?

  • and to think there used to be a dent there

  • hey i have a small spot on my door. Would i be okay just using touch up spray paint and then clear coat..because for the price of that air gun i could have every little thing fixed on my vehicle by a professional

  • how to paint your car yourself, wtf. are you tripping dude sha, as if we all have access to all the specialist gear your using. this clip should be called how to paint your car in a well equiped bodyshop. LET ME SEE YOU DO THIS ON A STREET IN THE SUMMER WITH BUGS ALL OVER YOUR WORK.

  • Wow very good...But I want to know the interval time between sanding the filler and applying Primer... And also the interval between 1st coat of primer, 2nd coat and 3rd coat. Also the Base coats...thanks...

  • OMG this much work to remove a tiny dent ?

What is the purpose of "feathering"?

  • All that hard work and effort ... for a SunFlower.... pffffft

  • Is there some place on the web I can go to see what my car will look like after its done?

  • Is there some place on the web I can go to see what my car will look like after its done?

  • No need to fix that big paint chip at the rear wheel opening. C'MON! Whats up with that! Oh its a Pontiac. Nevermind.

  • Say Jimmo, what nozzle size are you using on the Devilbiss and also what size on the iwata?

    Thanks

  • wat places shouldnt u paint a car

  • Silvers the most difficult shit to get right i have a paint issue like this and itll cost me more than 500 to do

  • u got down on that homeboy!!!!! good job

  • Wow hold the gun close enough? must be an insurance job?

  • This is one of simpliest and the best comprehensive "How to Paint Your Car Yourself" video that I have watched thus far. Thanks for posting!

  • hey man, could you tell me what kind of paint you're using? what is the name of it? thank you

  • What is an orientation coat?

  • Comment removed

  • wow, great job bro, i wana paint my body kit in he shed, do u think that sounds like a good idea? its fibre glass can u tell me wat to do???

    thx

  • If you sign up at the site and make a post with the details we can help you out better there.

  • @mamad68 i know this is kinda late but i just watched this video.. Yea you can paint it anywhere, just put alot of plastic down to kinda keep paint off shit and so dust and paint doesn't mix on your kit. then just paint..

  • Wow ! What a great paint job.

  • Great Vid. Just One Question, How Long Between Coats

  • Depends on the product, the technical data sheet tells you how long to wait.

  • excellent clip. great quality. perfect.

  • What was the white bottle thing you put on scotchbrite pad for pepare blending?

  • A sanding Paste, This one was RM 851. Its main purpose is to work as a lubricant to keep your pad sharp and cutting...think like a shaving gel and a razor. It also works to clean and contains a mild acid to help with adhesion. Some can also degrease..many to choose from.

  • One of the best clips on automotive painting I've seen on youtube so far. Hope to see more in the future.

    Thanks.

  • thx alot man u can c my video ov clearing if u wanna :)

  • very nice it me agen well im bryan im 23 n i paint cars also but can u tell me abit more about the sealer n orientation coat ??

    plz thx

  • The sealer is urethane based 2 part primer that provides a better foundation for the paint.

The orientation coat is clear basecoat that fills in minor scratches from the preperation to give you an easier surface to blend across.

  • Nice work! I'm no body repair man, but this is an impressive video both in how well you made the video and with the nice step by step instruction on this repair process.

  • I've never paint with that kind of respirator but it looks kind of uncomfortable...

  • Hey good work. Nice vids. I been spraying for 10yrs now and i can say we spray similar although i prefer Satas over anything. The only thing I dont like what you were doing, not that its wrong, but the wet scuffing with the paste. I have 3 tubes in my cabinet from 6yrs ago never used. Im a dry prepper. keep the vids coming though. by far the best instructional vids on autobody.. for example.. Hi IM Doug.. keep it bro

  • Thanks, ya the wet stuff isn't for everybody for sure. How would you typically prep a blend panel? DA with a fine paper and scuff the edges dry?

  • Yea, i would DA with 800grit and then catch my edges with a grey scuff. I love doing it that way.. espeacially in a face pace production shop that i work in. it cuts the prep process in half. u just gotta watch out for them sharp body lines cause u will break through.

  • Jimmo4life, I was very impressive with your work. I'm new freebie to this "paint yourself". Could you pl
