  • Gilliam is just lovely, eh? We should all age as well...

  • 34 people never got to go to Disneyland.

  • They should have gone with JK Rowling's wishes and hired Gilliam for at least several of the Harry Potter movies, I think he would have made a great contribution.

  • Out in the middle of a far part of L.A. nobody wants to go to... Not much has changed there, actually. They cut right through it all to get to the park, if they can.

  • Opened 1955

  • I wish I could go to Disneyland with Terry Gilliam...

  • 34 People laughed so hard after they saw The Holy Grail that they missed the like button

  • He still looks like Patsy, especially if he shaved.

  • I had no idea Gilliam's a yank!

  • terry gilliam you are my life i seriously wanna be as good of a director as you are :P your one of my favorite directors of all time

  • If they were to ever make a movie on Wicked, I always pictured Gilliam directing it

  • When I first saw Disneyland in 1963, I was 11, and troubled by how fake everything was.

I would have bought Disney stock when my daughter was watching the videos about princesses in 1994, but Eisner was getting too much of the profits for his own pockets.

  • @33dgtp That's a rather narrow outlook.

  • snow white ftw!

    my fave disney movie too!

  • Gilliam Rawks! He is real genius!!

  • Gilliam, Burton and Igman Bergman are my favorite directors.Monty Pythons are an inspiration

  • in the movies you think: he has picked from the madhouse but in real life they are quite smart

  • Terry has done some awesome movies.

  • terry Gilliam is great

  • Terry, for me one of the Bigger of animation and i believe that him better work is in the "Meaning of life " and the buildings sketch. with Monty Pyton.

I beleive that he had to acepted the changeof technology in the animation and

proof of this the films like Brazil and

Munchhausen. Terry a Merlin of our time.

  • Fun Fact: Walt Disney was a raving anti-Semite.

  • Tell us something we don't know..

  • @pocketlint60

Do you have any evidence of this? if not then it isn't true and i suggest you stop spreading rumors. Walt was not an antisemite he hired many jews to work on his movies all of whom have been interviewd and said he wasn't. In fact walt himself was part jewish. Unless you have proff i would suggest you stop lying

  • @TheBroadwaybob some people just think its fun to slander others without proof or reason.......its really dumb for anyone to call someone like Walt Disney an anti-semite.

  • @pocketlint60

    Big fat hairy deal.

  • @pocketlint60 Really? Raving? Wow, I'd pay, like, $63 to see that... or I could get an annual passport...

  • How can someone not know who Terry Gilliam is? HOW?

  • ha "people with bad hair might dislike us and attack us"

  • @Nandicanliketobeodd He looks way better now, with a big old beard, than earlier. He played Cardinal Fang in Spanish Inquisition and Patsy in Holy Grail.

  • The cheeky one.

  • He's the guy who did the animation.

  • @HQFOX2 He's Terry Gilliam, the animator

  • the one taht does those cool cartonish tings? thats cool

  • @HQFOX2 ya its Terry Gilliam, he did the animation and generally played smaller parts like one of my favorites he played was 1 of crazy jailer guys in Life of Brian. great scene. he also co-directed holy grail and has written and directed many great movies since

  • the funny thing was that the first day disneyland opened, they had so many problems they where almost closed down

  • @primal2020 that was a press opening though, the public opening came the day after that.

  • He is from the Vally/Burbank in LA.

  • Really every other week I thought he lived in Minnesota? Isn't Disneyland in California

  • He was born in Minnesota but moved to California when he was a teenager (I think)

  • Disney should give Gilliam a big fat blank check. Gilliam is a genius and Disney hasn't shown much of that quality lately except for buying Pixar. That image of Gilliam's animation in "Meaning of Life" where all the nuclear-families are cloned-- coming out of a stamping machine or something-- with mouse ears on, while Eric Idol is singing "why are we here..." well, that image has stuck in my mind for years. I dunno, I'd plunk down money to see a Gilliam-Disney masterpiece.

  • Hey, Check how many thumbs up you have; 27 as of October 8th.

  • @Appropriator Eric Idol??

  • @Appropriator I'm not sure Disney would ever work with Gilliam due to some of his "Graphic" animations,,,shame..

  • Gilliam was the lone American in the lot

  • Wow, big Python fan huh?

  • Nop, he's a fucking good American, with bloody good sense of humour.

  • well thats one lol (only jokeing dont shout at me)

  • Wow, banned for long hair, sucks how ignorant the old days were.

  • tickedoffnow is so fucked up thats its creepy

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god! I so agree! Only it has really taken a turn for the worse recently!

  • how sad you are.

  • Haha, it looks like him confessing his Disneyland addiction.

  • Terry is a genius whose imagination soars!!!!!

  • Graham Chapman played Arthur.

  • God damn for someone who has family from Arkansas it seems like he inherited none of that. He seriously is one erudite mothafuckah

  • he went to Cambridge so I would hope he is educated

  • Gilliam never went to Cambridge, he went to "Occidental", an arts college in LA.

    (Oh, yeah, he's American!)

At any rate, he's a college grad and what's more, learned at the feet of Harvey Kurtzman, co-creator of MAD magazine, which is a unique education that cannot be duplicated.

  • @trublgrl That must have been the source for "Mr. Kurtzman" in Gilliam's film Brazil?

  • terry has aged pretty well, i think. he has so much more dignity now. some people just grow old and age does nothing for them. not terry. :)

  • its patsy!

  • pull the other one!

  • In the late mid to late 60's there was a dress code to enter Disneyland. Long haired men were not allowed in.

  • kids, theme parks and hippies don't mix.. drugs were everywhere in the 60's, it was the end of the world because the cold war so lsd and weed were widely used, then 70's rolled around with disco & coke... it's been down hill since the fall of hitler, no bad guy left to point fingers at.

  • i do not under stand from 1:37 + becuase he had long hair?

  • @startingover123 - ahhh! i was trying to place him for sooo long. haha. wow. thanks for that.

@b44133rice - Graham Chapman was Arthur

  • Did he play King Arthur in the Holy Grail?

  • No but he did play Patsy.

  • And let's also not forget...The Bridgekeeper who asks THEE, The Questions THREE!!!

  • I love you Terry! You are so delightfully macabre and poetic with your films! You truly inspire us all!

  • Wow, even though hes american I can hear tiny traces of a british tone in there! xD

  • If you ever get the chance, watch a documentary called "This Film is Not Yet Rated." They talk about how Disney manipulates copyrite laws and movie ratings systems to their own advantage.

  • "Only a few people have the 'evil gene.' Hitler had it; Walt Disney had it..." Dr. Hibbert from the Simpsons. And I believe it! But I love Disneyland, too.

  • it opened in 1955

  • i was thinking the same thing mr jar0ridrt.d

  • MS. jar0fdirt, lol

  • Terry Gillam is so cool!!!

  • congrats on the bafta

  • 1955*

  • Tivoli Rocks!

  • Disneyland opened in July of 1955 actually. I can see his love of detail began early. That's pretty cool.

  • Nasty.

    >>>"We were at Disneyland in 1967 & my brother was told by some Disney geek that he had to tuck in his shirt & comb his hair back out of his eyes. Old chainsmoking Walt always preferred drawings and robots to flesh & blood people. He hired a Mafia thug to do union busting when his employees struck in the 1940s. During the McCarthy era Walt cultivated a friendship with J. Edgar Hoover, & called him regularly to report his Hollywood adversaries as "communists," ruining their careers."

  • Terry Gilliam = ManGod.

  • really? CHEERS!

  • Okay. Nerd rage #2 I guess. The buildings in Disneyland are not the right porportions. The stories get shorter as the buildings get taller, to create the illusion of porportion. He's right about the quality of construction and detail though.

  • [Disneyland nerd rage] IT WAS 1955!! NOT 1953! [/Disneyland nerd rage]

    sorry about that

  • Is Terry Gilliam British? Because he doesn't have the accent like the other Pythons.

  • He's American, he even stated where he was born.

  • But he has a British citizenship.

  • He's the only american in the group

  • Yep, he gained citizenship in 1968 I believe. Though he still holds citizenship in America also

  • We were at Disneyland in 1967 and my brother was told by some Disney geek that he had to tuck in his shirt and comb his hair back out of his eyes. Old chainsmoking Walt always preferred drawings and robots to flesh and blood people. He hired a Mafia thug to do union busting when his employees struck in the 1940s. During the McCarthy era Walt cultivated a friendship with J. Edgar Hoover, and called him regularly to report his Hollywood adversaries as "communists," ruining their careers.

  • I think Disney had some sort of masonic connection as well, the De Molay organisation or some such. He certainly was all about making nature safe and plasticised.

  • I've known guys that were in De Molay and I assure you they were not in on a conspiracy of any sort.

  • Well, from what I have read, the conspiratoral nature of masonic movements is not known by the rank and file at all.

  • They were teenagers as are most De Molay's.

  • I am aware of that, but as with most youth groups there are adults involved with the organisation. Disney was one of those adults. De Moley is known to be associated with masonry.

  • No Disney was one of the kids.

  • Disney exemplifies all that is wrong with American culture. It sucks the life out of people, replacing real thought with oatmeal.

  • You have a problem with oatmeal?

  • from Arkansas to California every other weekend for Disneyland? hard to believe that.

  • ...but Terry Gilliam grew up in Los Angeles...? He was prom king at a high school near where I lived.

  • The first movie he ever saw was Snow White? He's a gremlin!

  • lol only bush can destroy and represent terrible things? Riiiiiight.

  • Oh well.. Disney is supposedly evil anyway.

  • I'll stick with Universal Studios, Thank You.

  • Oh look, the intelligencia have arrived.... lol

  • are u actually able to take in knowledge ... u know NOTHING

  • Wow, chill out a bit!

  • You fail at life! What are you even doing in this channel if you don't know who Terry Gilliam is? ^^'

  • you're kidding right?

  • It's Terry Gilliam, retard.

  • i see you`re only 10, everyone knows where babies come from.

  • Gillian looks less ghastly now than when he was younger :)

  • it's him getting normal hair.

  • I agree. He was a strange looking younger man; he's aged nicely.

  • Me and my girlfriend at the time smoked a joint behind a bush in Minnie's back yard there.

  • Terry looks great! Well rested and healthy.

  • GILLY!!!!! love YOUR cartoons! Disney used to be entertaining.. now its just bombastic crap!!

  • Actually, Disneyland opened in 1955, not 1953.

I still love Disney, but they've gotten too corporate and greedy---no theme park in the world justifies a $100 one day admission ticket.

  • have you been to a cheaper one? They are far less clean, far less safe ( Magic Mountain?) and full of low-lifes who wouldn't EVER pay 100$ for one days fun...

THAT'S why I LIKE Disneyland! Cleaner, Safer, and far less chance of being stuck in a 90 minute line behind a family of gang-bangers...

  • monty python wasn't even a single person.

The group of those that took part in the films and shows were known as monty python

  • Feck off.

  • This was great! Thanks Terry. - UFO Phil

  • Gilliam's descriptions of Disneyland are very accurate. I worked there as a teenager (as a musician), and God help you if you didn't conform to the Disney look. They're a bit better now - probably realized how much money they were losing banning those hippies!

  • i geuss the banning made some sense long hair was a classic trademark of hippie and also drugs. You can't risk having drugs in a chilrdrens fantesy land.

  • (\__/)

    (='.'=)

  • (\__/)

    (='.'=)

  • The reason why they didn't allow people in with long hair was because there was a huge yippie riot in the park back in the 60s and people with long hair weren't allowed for a while.

  • yippie!

  • terry0pratchett0fan, how dare you sully a monty python video with your trash. BEGONE!

  • family guy flashback... Walt Disney being unfrozen;

    "Are the jews gone yet?"

    lol

  • monty python was perfection

  • You=Muppet

  • Oh=Really ?

  • bad day?...

  • The same kind of people who are gonna care about the 2000´s.

  • nice comment. I hope you do 'win'. and brucethetoaster hates you too.

  • I love you, Pythons! All of YOU!! Thannnnnk you!!!!

  • This channel makes youtube actually worthwhile.

    Zoom

  • I love this channel. Thank you, Pythons!

  • They didn't let you in cause your hair was long..thas crazy

  • Wow! I had no idea that Terry Gilliam had a passion for Disney animation and Disneyland. It does make sense with what he did for the shows and films.

    Animation rocks!

  • To play devils advocate, Disneyland was attacked by hippies once.

  • Pathetic things destroying each other. Perfect.

  • Disneyland is awesome. There attention to detail is unparrelled, and there the one amusement park that doesn't have litter everywhere, you see janitors everywhere.

  • 1955 yo.

  • too bad disney is full of lousy sitcoms and stolen music nowadays

  • I am really not surprised that Terry Gilliam is a huge Disney fan, it kinda fits in with a lot of his films and animations

  • /watch?v=uclcXgTJ5v0

  • Pythons!!! Up for Pythons :D

  • wow wish i had the money to go to Disney Land every other weekend.
