"where you cant put your vest away, and say you'll wear it tomorrow, cuz the day after we'll be saying Dam I was just with him yesterday" Jay is too nice
did you guys listen to the words???????? they call the cops the a-team/cuz they hop out vans and spray things/they shoot sohard it's hard to build a team/ ???????????
The fuck do you mean he's "always weak." Maybe nowadays but this song is straight up lyrical. Do you have wax in yo ears listen to the damn lyrics. "Where we call the cops the A Team, cuz the hop out vans and spray things." If that ain't lyrical than Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper of all time.
spoken like a true suburbanite , jay speaks to the streets which your not from obviously, but jay spoke best to people like you when he said in this very song

@baltimoreblitz16 I think he's implying that sometimes people in the hood/ghetto pray 2 God 4 their lives 2 get better but after a while they feel like he doesn't answer their prayers so they stop believing in him. I'm not going 2 call u dumb, but some others mite lol!!!

Then revive a song of this magnitude to liquidfiy the alcohol for this avenue too solidify the residue!
your name is oldschool hiphop and you claim rarely do u see an MC come this raw? then you must have on shitty playlist. oldschool hip hop was all about comin this raw.
never said anything about jay being raw. but yea he used to be fucking ILL. his lyrics dont make sense to you because theyre over your head. jay is universally reckognized for his hidden meanings. Well, to those who really listen to the music. You should read up on some of jayz rhymes, then you'll understand.
I remember where I just listened to this song for entertainment, but as I look around today his lyrics sounds like he's talking about. I don't live in the projects nor do I pretend to be, but niggas gettin really ruthless around here. The lines "Life expectancy is so low, we're makin our will at 18." And "Niggas show you love, that's how they fool thugs. Before you know it you're lying in a pool of blood." Becomes more and more true everyday around here. I miss music that you can relate to.
and jus to clarify im not sayn all blacks would have a problem with latin ppl esayn that word but some blacks do and ur dumb if u deny that so its cool that u grew up with ur niccas but some latin pple, ricans with blue eyes and shit get laughed at for sayn it but ive NEVER HEARD A BLACK PERSON TELL ANOTHER THAT HE OR SHE COULDNT SAY IT, THATS Y U R DIFFERENT, now go eat some beans and leave their culture alone, its like a "close but no cigar for pple like u mane!
imno rooklie spic, and im not fake, rican and other latin are not all african and black pple do get offended when they use the n word, the only ones who dont r jus real jealous of whites and will take "unity" at any cost, and y am i fake cause i said im from the hood, like all ur favorite rappers do nigga, does daddy yankee look like a black man to u? u guys arent black, get over it, latins are closer to eurpean, take a look at urselves and tell me the last latin girl u knew with fake hair?????
lol sales have notihng to do with the album besides the advertising it had, the short fad it created and how long it took for the next large commercial to come out
half of illmatic was as good as this...buy the way im from the hood so i can relate to both...im from newark where rican and dominican kids get beat up for sayn nigga...real talk, and i would jus like to say a hustler pays for everything from their hustle so if u work but make the majority of ur money from hustling, ur still not a hustler, all or none homeis, jus a reminder, anyone can afford jordans, weed, and ho's and if ur from the hood, u knwo that!
I think u fake, stop pretending to be what ur not. Save the advice for rookie whos new to the block Aight nicca. Yeah im rican and bori raised with my niccas and WHAT.
jay z dissed mobb deep...... im from where the hammers rung/ news cameras never come/where you and your mans hung in every verse in your rhyme/.....prodigy said something about them being in marcy... jay subliminal disses everybody......
naw im sorry fifty doesnt have lyrical skills like that but his lyrics fit the album his tough and painful style was serious get rich is one of the best albums but jay-z is the best rapper but if you know anything about rap you would know that get rich or die tryin changed rappers style from story tellin to actin like gangsters see how soft the industry is
jay has more people because more ppl relate to than nas. nas is more complex than jay and thats why nas has less fans because its harder to relate to nas. overall "imo" nas is the better lyricist, but jay is the better mc.
Jay had the beats the lyrics (even if nas's lyrics are better jay still had lyrics) and he was able to sell his songs better than Nas. When you can do that that means more audiences can feel you and enjoy your music more. I'll give Jay the edge as far as the better MC. He was with the better producers and combine it with his lyrics and I got him just a notch higher than Nas but no by a lot. Im not saying Jay is 20 times better than Nas or anything
he also went multi dimensional for the ladies when he did bonnie and clyde which was #1 on bet's top 10 coutdown for 1 week and a half..the last really hot shit nas released to the public that everyone was od'n was either and maybe the song hip hop is dead which the album wasnt even that good..compare that to the black album..Everybody from every burrow had the black album and was bumpin that shit..the whole cd probly had 12 out of 14 good songs..00-01 nas all day..03+ god mc jay z.
Sorry about that I was saying basically Nas made Illmatic and his other albums were not as great as illmatic and did not sell like ill matic. Jay made music for a wider range audience which made him multi deminsional which makes him the better MC.
and jay-z never topped reasonable doubt... and no the blueprint and black album aren't better then reasonable doubt or as good as it. Nas has covered more content then jay-z, and is a better lyricist and story teller and is more creative then jay-z.
Yeah but somehow Jay ended up selling more records overall than Nas. Nas told stories but Jay had the beats and was the better businessman. Plus you cannot compare Reasonable Doubt to the Black Album. RD and The Blueprint are highly regarded as Hip-Hop classics. As I said before Nas had the lyrics but Jay had the beats and he had a flow, whether it was better than Nas' or not thats debatable hwoever, he still sold more records than Nas. Enough said.
true that, but being a buisness man doesn't make you a better hip hop artist. art and buisness are to different things. rakim never got rich, but he was/is an outstanding rapper.
business side helps the mc become successful. And Jay was best at it. He made hot records for all audiences and thats what makes a good mc when you can switch the flow up. Nas always talked about his environment. Now this is fine and I got no problem with that but that makes you a one dimensional MC where as Jay was a more dynamic mc. He didn't have to just talk about Marcy or talk poetry on every track. And oh by the one not one Common album is better than Get Rich or die tryin.
Wrong wrong wrong. On both points. Nas is all poetry. Now I enjoy poetry myself but I get bored and depressed hearing that. Jay showed you the dark-side and then he made you dance made your head bop. Go to Europe ask how many people know who Nas is and then ask Jay. Jay has the popular vote, he globalized his material and people felt his material that's why Jay will always be a notch higher than Nas. He got the popular vote.
I'm sorry Common is nice but none of his albums are messing with get rich or die trying. I'm not a big 50 fan but that one album I know will over-power any Common CD. I'd like to also ad that I own the resurrections album and I enjoy Commons material but it's not Get Rich Or Die Tryin.
@dman5b it's really not even fair to compare Common and 50. They have two completely different styles. One is a conscious emcee and the other is on some gangsta shit. It's two different genres within rap.
And buddy Jay did top Reasonable Doubt. Blueprint went platinum. L & T Vol 2 multi platinum, "dynasty" multi platinum. Blueprint 2 platinum. Black Album platinum. American Gangster recently went platinum selling over a million records. So pretty much every Jay album went platinum.
you have to realize that ppl listen to music that they relate to. i love nas and jigga but bein a hustler and shit you can relate to jay. living bad and poorly you can relate to both.if you like poetry and shit then nas is your man.You get what im saying.I do like jay better becasue i could relate with him far more then nas, even though listening to nas's lyrics there amazing.Like any other genre of music rap is all opinion untill you realize that youll be argueing with any and all rap fans.
word, but my original arguement wasn't about who was better, somebody said some bullshit about nas not having a song as good as this, which isn't true.
I respect both Jay and Nas but at the end of the day Jay will always be remembered for making a bigger impact on the hip-hop industry than Nas record wise and concept wise. recognition on Illmatic. After Illmatic he could not be able to put all his albums as good as his first album. Jay came out around the same time and made records not only for lower class communities but for the middle class and rich kids to bop 2.
if you think nas has anything on jay z you buggin..back when the battle happend it was like a toss up but nas had a little edge..since then jay z has clearly claimed the thrown..while nas was dropping street disciple a 2 disc album that was completly wack and flopped jay z dropped the black album around the same time which slaughtered nas's 25 tracks with only 14. jay z is the king an doesnt get punked by lil niggaz like 50
shit thats nice so did massacre..or double plat one of those but is he as nice as nas or jay z? No..and if you want to take it there jay z has never flopped one of his 11 albums..the worst he did was the one with r kelly and that went gold
thats exactly what i'm saying... sales don't matter. but ur saying it flopped, but it went platinum so i don't see how thats flopping. and yes the black albun was a lot better over all of course. jay-z is great, but i think Nas is better,
this aint that sweet

I'm from a place where unemployment skyrockets
and some got no choice but to live with $10 in their pocket
I'm from a city where it's complicating to find jobs
and the way some people survive is when they steal and rob
I'm from an area where people don't mind their business

some are victimized by being severely brutalized

I don't live in the projects nor do I pretend to be, but niggas gettin really ruthless around here. The lines "Life expectancy is so low, we're makin our will at 18." And "Niggas show you love, that's how they fool thugs. Before you know it you're lying in a pool of blood." Becomes more and more true everyday around here. I miss music that you can relate to.

get rich or die trying is definatly one of the best albums look at how many units it sold
bigsweet2go 3 years ago
lol sales have notihng to do with the album besides the advertising it had, the short fad it created and how long it took for the next large commercial to come out

half of illmatic was as good as this...buy the way im from the hood so i can relate to both...im from newark where rican and dominican kids get beat up for sayn nigga...real talk, and i would jus like to say a hustler pays for everything from their hustle so if u work but make the majority of ur money from hustling, ur still not a hustler, all or none homeis, jus a reminder, anyone can afford jordans, weed, and ho's and if ur from the hood, u knwo that!

escobar60099 3 years ago
naw im sorry fifty doesnt have lyrical skills like that but his lyrics fit the album his tough and painful style was serious get rich is one of the best albums but jay-z is the best rapper but if you know anything about rap you would know that get rich or die tryin changed rappers style from story tellin to actin like gangsters see how soft the industry is

jay has more people because more ppl relate to than nas. nas is more complex than jay and thats why nas has less fans because its harder to relate to nas. overall "imo" nas is the better lyricist, but jay is the better mc.
itsyaboy41 3 years ago
word dumb niggas find it hard to understand what nas is saying.. crack ya brain for once nigas!!
bigsweet2go 3 years ago
Jay had the beats the lyrics (even if nas's lyrics are better jay still had lyrics) and he was able to sell his songs better than Nas. When you can do that that means more audiences can feel you and enjoy your music more. I'll give Jay the edge as far as the better MC. He was with the better producers and combine it with his lyrics and I got him just a notch higher than Nas but no by a lot. Im not saying Jay is 20 times better than Nas or anything

Classic. Easily a Top 10 Jay-Z song.
diddisdiddat 3 years ago
he also went multi dimensional for the ladies when he did bonnie and clyde which was #1 on bet's top 10 coutdown for 1 week and a half..the last really hot shit nas released to the public that everyone was od'n was either and maybe the song hip hop is dead which the album wasnt even that good..compare that to the black album..Everybody from every burrow had the black album and was bumpin that shit..the whole cd probly had 12 out of 14 good songs..00-01 nas all day..03+ god mc jay z.
artfuldodgerking101 3 years ago
Sorry about that I was saying basically Nas made Illmatic and his other albums were not as great as illmatic and did not sell like ill matic. Jay made music for a wider range audience which made him multi deminsional which makes him the better MC.
dman5b 3 years ago
illmatic isn't even nas' highest selling album so that doesn't even make sense.LOL
J2theMillz 3 years ago
OK but illmatic was the one album that helped him gain huge recognition.
dman5b 3 years ago
and jay-z never topped reasonable doubt... and no the blueprint and black album aren't better then reasonable doubt or as good as it. Nas has covered more content then jay-z, and is a better lyricist and story teller and is more creative then jay-z.
J2theMillz 3 years ago
Yeah but somehow Jay ended up selling more records overall than Nas. Nas told stories but Jay had the beats and was the better businessman. Plus you cannot compare Reasonable Doubt to the Black Album. RD and The Blueprint are highly regarded as Hip-Hop classics. As I said before Nas had the lyrics but Jay had the beats and he had a flow, whether it was better than Nas' or not thats debatable hwoever, he still sold more records than Nas. Enough said.
dman5b 3 years ago
true that, but being a buisness man doesn't make you a better hip hop artist. art and buisness are to different things. rakim never got rich, but he was/is an outstanding rapper.
J2theMillz 3 years ago
Jay had the lyrics and the business mind and that will always put you a notch higher than many others.
dman5b 3 years ago
buisness has nothing to do with being an MC at all.. if it does then 50 cent is better then common. lol
J2theMillz 3 years ago
business side helps the mc become successful. And oh by the one not one Common album is better than Get Rich or die tryin.
dman5b 3 years ago
ressurection > get rich
like water for chocolate > get rich
Be > get rich
nas has talked about more then just his enviroment, he's covered more content then jay-z has. c'mon now...
J2theMillz 3 years ago
Wrong wrong wrong. On both points. Nas is all poetry. Now I enjoy poetry myself but I get bored and depressed hearing that. Jay showed you the dark-side and then he made you dance made your head bop. Go to Europe ask how many people know who Nas is and then ask Jay. Jay has the popular vote, he globalized his material and people felt his material that's why Jay will always be a notch higher than Nas. He got the popular vote.
dman5b 3 years ago
I'm sorry Common is nice but none of his albums are messing with get rich or die trying. I'm not a big 50 fan but that one album I know will over-power any Common CD. I'd like to also ad that I own the resurrections album and I enjoy Commons material but it's not Get Rich Or Die Tryin.
dman5b 3 years ago
@dman5b it's really not even fair to compare Common and 50. They have two completely different styles. One is a conscious emcee and the other is on some gangsta shit. It's two different genres within rap.
Antrizzle2009 2 years ago
was.....
XxChannel57xX 3 years ago
was what?
J2theMillz 3 years ago
And buddy Jay did top Reasonable Doubt. Blueprint went platinum. L & T Vol 2 multi platinum, "dynasty" multi platinum. Blueprint 2 platinum. Black Album platinum. American Gangster recently went platinum selling over a million records. So pretty much every Jay album went platinum.
dman5b 3 years ago
and record sales doesn't mean the album is better... illmatic shits on nastradamus, but nastradamus went platinum before illmatic did.
J2theMillz 3 years ago
you have to realize that ppl listen to music that they relate to. i love nas and jigga but bein a hustler and shit you can relate to jay. living bad and poorly you can relate to both.if you like poetry and shit then nas is your man.You get what im saying.I do like jay better becasue i could relate with him far more then nas, even though listening to nas's lyrics there amazing.Like any other genre of music rap is all opinion untill you realize that youll be argueing with any and all rap fans.
Gmen0066 3 years ago 3
word, but my original arguement wasn't about who was better, somebody said some bullshit about nas not having a song as good as this, which isn't true.
J2theMillz 3 years ago
@dman5b you can't go by that tho. Nelly sold to a large audience as well, but that doesn't make him a better MC. You can't go by sales.
Antrizzle2009 2 years ago
@Antrizzle2009 Time out it dont matter if Common and 50 got different flows..50's GRODT is arguably the greatest album the last decade stop..
dman5b 2 years ago
@dman5b Are you serious? GRODT wasn't even the best album of the year it came out. That shit is decent at best.
spideymayne 1 year ago
I respect both Jay and Nas but at the end of the day Jay will always be remembered for making a bigger impact on the hip-hop industry than Nas record wise and concept wise. recognition on Illmatic. After Illmatic he could not be able to put all his albums as good as his first album. Jay came out around the same time and made records not only for lower class communities but for the middle class and rich kids to bop 2.
dman5b 3 years ago
i really respect jay for this song.
and for the ones claiming jay was better then nas?? no sorry.. nas is probably the best ever ( tie with biggie)
forzautreg 3 years ago
if you think nas has anything on jay z you buggin..back when the battle happend it was like a toss up but nas had a little edge..since then jay z has clearly claimed the thrown..while nas was dropping street disciple a 2 disc album that was completly wack and flopped jay z dropped the black album around the same time which slaughtered nas's 25 tracks with only 14. jay z is the king an doesnt get punked by lil niggaz like 50
artfuldodgerking101 3 years ago
street's disciple went platinum...
J2theMillz 3 years ago
shit thats nice so did massacre..or double plat one of those but is he as nice as nas or jay z? No..and if you want to take it there jay z has never flopped one of his 11 albums..the worst he did was the one with r kelly and that went gold
artfuldodgerking101 3 years ago
thats exactly what i'm saying... sales don't matter. but ur saying it flopped, but it went platinum so i don't see how thats flopping. and yes the black albun was a lot better over all of course. jay-z is great, but i think Nas is better,
