SHOT show didn't help shipping order with a number of their team members OOTO. My HSP shipped today from AT. Now own 4 AT steel targets. Slowly building my own range since the "clubs" don't let you shoot steel.
Thanks Dude, I just got $117 off my order with Action Target today by using your code. Got a hostage swinger and an Evil Roy. Don't know why you would ever make it to Kaliphornia but if you do I owe you a beer.
@Diamondback68 Did you have any problem with their website? I just tried buying an evil roy target and it wouldn't get past the billing information tab at checkout. the button that said "continue to review your order" didn't work. I tried it on mozilla and internet explorer on 2 different computers and nothing worked.

I'm a big fan. Dig the whole committment to maintaining our public spaces. Anyway, how do you manage with the casings. Do they ricochet and hit the ground right in front of the plate? What about those that miss (hopefully not many)? I can only imagine you use some kind of magnet sweeper . . .
And I see that M&P! Love that thing, got one for myself, not regretting it one bit. Eat eats everything. Going to run a box of Tula 9mm Steel case through it just to see how it handles that as well.
@Nutnfancy Thanks for all the work you do, dude! I purchased an Evil Roy a few months back and have been extremely happy with it. Their customer service was excellent, too, emailing to make sure I received the product. AT steel just rocks!
@Nutnfancy what line of work are you in, if you don't mind answering? Your right about trash being left behind by irresponsible firearms owners. I can shoot one mile south of my home in the Arizona dessert and i have seen everything from TV,s to boats. long description short, it looks like a dump.
I tried for four days in a row last week to order a target from Action. My calls went to sales voice mail every times and this was during normal business hours.
Very cool. Definitely will pick up at least an evil roy target in the future, but I definitely love the functionality of the hostage swinger. Thanks so much for establishing the contact and for sharing your data points!
That is so cool when you shot that swinger plate from afar. It's more beautiful than when you shot it via pistol, and I like that sound as well. I also like the sound of the thigh shots too. XD
Thanks for another great review. Keep up the good work!
can all their steel be shot by rifles as long as they are pass 100 yards or so? What is the difference between 500 and 550 steel types by action targets? Thanks for all the help!
@fishblade2 My understanding is that you should spend a bit extra for the 550 if you're planning to use rifles. Here's a link to AT's steel guide (PDF) with more info: steelchallenge[dot]com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/steel-target-resource-guide.pdf
Hey Nutn, thanks for showing that swinger plate target up close. I have never seen steel up close and it is nice to see how they function.
Also thanks for pitching for people to clean up their crap. I pick up trash when I walk the dogs and I never am not able to pick up one piece and put it in the can next to the bus stop.
Up in our Snoqualmie National Forrest the Rangers are awesome. There are a lot of idiots up there just like everywhere that shoot signs and leave their trash. We go up at least once a month and every time we do the first thing we do is set up our trash bag. Rangers or other Federal Law Enforcement really appreciate it and we try and set an example. If we loose our right to shoot up there we will have no where else to go close by. I hope everyone in TNP sets that example when there outdoors.
It would be cooler if there was a little reactive target in the middle of the nuts or above them so that shooting it drops the nuts back down once they hide up.
I've wanted this hostage target since the first time I saw it. It is actually the first one I'm gonna get in 2012. I finally got permission to shoot on our 80 acre farmland/woods and I'm going to shoot some videos of our "TNP like" outtings. Thanks for doing so many wonderful and entertaining videos. I have to say I was glad you did a Mosin shoot, but a little bummed... just because I wanted to get to it first!! Hopefully I can make some videos that Nutnfacy and your viewers would like.
@RockNWROL Oh, and although my channel and outtings aren't a direct copy of TNP, I'd like to point out that the many similarities and references to TNP and its culture should be seen as an homage to the TNP crew for all of their hard work and dedication.
Have these targets at our club and they are great. 500/550 brinell steel is expensive. Try going to a wholesale steel supplier and buy a sheet of this hardened steel and making your own. Action Target is the cost effective way to shoot steel.
very nice.... how do u doit nutnfancy I live in houston and I can't find a place werr I can go and shoot like dat only indoor I really wanna do some tnp action do u rent the land, own it, or is it ur buddys ??????
@nutnfancy & racerjared sorry guys but you are being duped. The design is simple ( a good thing but is a cost saving measure not cost adding) the material is cheap and a plasma cutter is a one time cost. How long do you really think it take to manufacture those targets? Buying American is great but your ideas are exactly what have driven most items overseas. Americans are smart and know an items true cost
@GlitchLXIV@nutnfancy as far as steel targets go the design is not simple. Simple are the 40 dollar overseas made made steel spinner targets. There are many more cuts, welds, alignment, and material involved in an Action Target target. An Evil Roy target at 130 dollars is definitely took more than three times the material, labor, and planning to manufacture.
Greatly appreciate your concern with environmental quality and not playing into the stereotype of shooters as shit bird yahoos who always make a mess. We don't need to give the official control freaks any more ammunition.
All I can say is once I got 3 of my hostage swingers and started shooting on national forrest land I never wanted to go to a range ever again. Love action targets!! Guys get a evil Roy and you wont be disappointed... Siccmade. Thanks nutn
The IPSC with hostage plate is the one I want. I just need to man up and drop the cash for it. Good to know it will last forever too when you take care of it. I still need to find a good place to go and run my stuff.
I bought the 22lr dueling tree last year and love it. the only negative is the tripod base is wobbly because the middle of the base often is lower than the "arms" so it wobbles. I use it out in a field which is no problem to beat down the dirt with the weight of the dueling tree. I like how the tree will take 9mm, 40, 38, 44Mag even. without any sign of denting. Just a loss of paint. I use 3/8th inch plate from the scrap yard for long distance shooting. Not hardened but its cheap!
It's no wonder the anti gunners think we are a bunch of irresponsible bums when they see all the piles of trash left by people out shooting. How hard is it to pick up what you brought plus a little extra and throw it away properly... I have even seen old cars dragged out to these spots, shot to pieces and left there.
A very good comment on cleaning up our shooting spots. When I used to live in the mountains here in Colorado there were a number of shooting locations in the National Forest. Have all been closed now because of trash. I would literally bring home a whole truck load of trash and could never keep up with the piles of old computers, washing machines, propane tanks, broken bottles and on and on. Not to mention that any tree in the area was completely shot to pieces.
@superstreetdogg not a very nice thing to say about the thousands of people (myself included!) who have at one time or another taken an oath to defend your right to sit here and be an internet troll! everyone who serves is worthy of respect and if you can't see that, then you're just an asshole, and probably not too welcome around here anyway!
I noticed it in the SOG/ActionTarget Giveaway vid as well. Just curious if we are going to see some of that footage and how that camera angle is working out for you.
Thanks for the close up of the hostage target. I had often wondered how solid they were made. It is amazing that the swinger plate does not have a kink or twist in it after that many hits.
Great review dude... seems like so much fun!! If I wasn't gearing up for backpacking this coming season I'd have to look into getting one. =\ Pain in the butt bills wont let me do it all. LOL
Thanks for all your hard work.
I am looking forward to getting my t-shirt too. =D
I looked on the Action Target website and couldn't find anything called the "PT Stand". They have a "Static Stand", is the static stand the same as the stand in your video? I really couldn't tell from the pictures (or lack thereof) on the AT website. Thanks for any help.
Great review nutn', I'm looking forward to getting an Evil Roy soon, take that bad boy out to 400yds with .308. Although there is something telling me I could have a helluva good time shooting a hostage target in the beans all day long, bad part is they dont drop on their own haha.
@Nutnfancy have you tried the Picatinny mount for the Contour? I've tried it on my XDm and can't get it to stay on. I say this as someone who sells Contour cameras among other small cameras like that.
nice vid. good comment on the BLM. When I read that on NRA email alerts you were the first I thought of. I hope and pray the new bills dont hender you and all of BLM shooters, because it will soon encroach on private owners and gun range members. oh yeah more RRA Op. vids. please. thanks for your support of the 2nd.
@BCOable Thank you for your support of the NRA and all the good it does. I will probably make a separate issue on this and generate letters from TNPrs. I need to do more research on it. It is another ploy to shut shooters and gun ownership down. Being a "clean" shooter helps this from gaining momentum and I use AT steel to do that.
i dont like gene "evil roy". hes a great shot but he kind of ruined SASS because it used emphasize dressing up like a cowboy and do some shooting, now its about "putting on a cowboy hat and shooting you custom chrome revolvers and 1911's as fast as you can without looking like a cowboy at all" now theres people there dressed up in levis and t shirts. not the way it should be
@garrettzkool63 Good comment and I had no idea that's where SASS is heading. I'm with you: if it loses that special cowboy fun and just turns into another fast competitive shoot then I ain't interested either. I think characterizations is what would make it fun.
A note to shooting in the desert is to always pick up your brass and then some, I always bring a 5 gal bucket to fill with the casings out there during clean up
Nut'n I really don't know how you consider their price reasonable. They may be comparable but in reality, just being real, there is a huge profit margin. You say there is a lot of hardened steel but take a look at what steel pays per pound. That target would have to weigh over 500 lbs before material cost would even approach what they charge. You are all about being real so please keep to your morals and call it like it is. This steel (all steel) is INCREDIBLY over priced.
@GlitchLXIV there are a lot of other expenses, that go into manufacturing besides the raw material cost. based on your math, the raw materials would be roughly 20% of the finished retail price. That puts them at in line with most other industries. Action targets are a higher quality than the other steel that I have bought or had made. Well worth it.
@racerjared Yep, I agree with racerjared. It's a lot more than steel, it's an American work force that's putting it together and that costs. I always hear in TNP how American made needs support. True that but it means it will be a little pricier. The Evil Roy is $115 minus your nutnfancy 15% discount. That's outstanding value and I think the Swinger plate is too considering durability.
Your target is illuminated by a "fenix quark turbo flashlight"? Maybe this will be a new joint venture between fenix and four sevens that we just haven't heard about
I ordered one on Sunday night and received the shipping info today (Wed.) Can't wait to take it out and try it out. Thanks for the review, and keep it up!
Hey Nutn or anyone else that knows anything about shooting steel. We were shootin a 12x12 1/4 piece of steel hanging off our target stand at angle to the left not torwards the ground i was comfortable shooting 9mm and 40 cal at the plate but when my buddy started shooting .22lr i could hear them richochet and i told him to stop. what are some tips on setting up steel plates to be safe thanks
Just realized the hostage swinger is 550 steel. Bonus. I'd like the large bore dualing tree but man, it's $400 for 500 steel. Ouch. This might have to do.
I just had an idea of somthing I think would b entertaining, an for Christmas I want to c nunfancy do the sledgehammer in a Santa suite hahahahahahah, don't take me seriously, just random thoughts
Someone is going to be mad (the wife) if they don't get a christmas gift if I buy this .... im going to hold till after .... great vid nutnfancy always giving me something else to think on buying
Truly amazing durability. I imagine being smart about what/where you shoot at the targets definitely gives you, quite literally, more bang for the buck. Nice review. Great product.
Dude nutn, I live in Henderson, when we shoot in desert here we pick up our site better than it was before we got there. It does suck to see people trash the lands we all use. Guys like you and other military did not sacrifice their lives to have these low life's trash our landscape. And please always pick up your brass, you can reload it or trade with others who do.. Get creative people!
nice, i see you are wearing what looks to be an hd action cam in the fenix headlamp clamp, possibility of a new camera angle/ extra run'n'gun footage would be awesome, also i am looking to pick up a camera of this type, so please review it, lol,
Hey Nutn, you should do a "ruger run" where you use like an sr-556 and an sr-1911 or something and do that with all big name manufacturers. ( S&W, Kel-Tec, Sig, ect.) it would be fun too see.
Hey Nutnfancy, at 3:11 it looks like you are shooting the SW m&p 15 sport. Did you already do a review on this rifle? Or are you in the process of doing one? Anyone that knows the answer to this please let me know
@fordfanatic325 I believe he is in the process of testing it, but hasn't posted any review or comments about it except in the gunnies tour videos. I own the rifle and I love it, if that helps, but that's obviously not a nutnfancy review lol

good review if i go back to my old range im probably going to buy some steel targets to shoot thanks.
mattallday10 2 months ago
Great review nutn', I'm looking forward to getting an Evil Roy soon, take that bad boy out to 400yds with .308. Although there is something telling me I could have a helluva good time shooting a hostage target in the beans all day long, bad part is they dont drop on their own haha.

@Nutnfancy have you tried the Picatinny mount for the Contour? I've tried it on my XDm and can't get it to stay on. I say this as someone who sells Contour cameras among other small cameras like that.

@rumblestripradio I've been looking for that and I appreciate you giving the heads up. I don't have one yet.

nice vid. good comment on the BLM. When I read that on NRA email alerts you were the first I thought of. I hope and pray the new bills dont hender you and all of BLM shooters, because it will soon encroach on private owners and gun range members. oh yeah more RRA Op. vids. please. thanks for your support of the 2nd.
BCOable 2 months ago
@BCOable Thank you for your support of the NRA and all the good it does. I will probably make a separate issue on this and generate letters from TNPrs. I need to do more research on it. It is another ploy to shut shooters and gun ownership down. Being a "clean" shooter helps this from gaining momentum and I use AT steel to do that.

I bought an evil roy CAS plate from my local FFL, super fun to shoot, savin my cash to get some more of them.

So is it 15% or 20%???
DIECASTER 2 months ago
@DIECASTER If you use code nutnfancyshot20 it's 20% off until end of january. The nutnfancy15 is a durable code that will go on.

i dont like gene "evil roy". hes a great shot but he kind of ruined SASS because it used emphasize dressing up like a cowboy and do some shooting, now its about "putting on a cowboy hat and shooting you custom chrome revolvers and 1911's as fast as you can without looking like a cowboy at all" now theres people there dressed up in levis and t shirts. not the way it should be
garrettzkool63 2 months ago
@garrettzkool63 Good comment and I had no idea that's where SASS is heading. I'm with you: if it loses that special cowboy fun and just turns into another fast competitive shoot then I ain't interested either. I think characterizations is what would make it fun.

@nutnfancy exactly

A note to shooting in the desert is to always pick up your brass and then some, I always bring a 5 gal bucket to fill with the casings out there during clean up

@cc29585 5 gallon bucket to fill UP! Sweet man... that's a lot of shooting :)
nrm4life 2 months ago
Nut'n I really don't know how you consider their price reasonable. They may be comparable but in reality, just being real, there is a huge profit margin. You say there is a lot of hardened steel but take a look at what steel pays per pound. That target would have to weigh over 500 lbs before material cost would even approach what they charge. You are all about being real so please keep to your morals and call it like it is. This steel (all steel) is INCREDIBLY over priced.
GlitchLXIV 2 months ago
@GlitchLXIV there are a lot of other expenses, that go into manufacturing besides the raw material cost. based on your math, the raw materials would be roughly 20% of the finished retail price. That puts them at in line with most other industries. Action targets are a higher quality than the other steel that I have bought or had made. Well worth it.
racerjared 2 months ago
@racerjared Yep, I agree with racerjared. It's a lot more than steel, it's an American work force that's putting it together and that costs. I always hear in TNP how American made needs support. True that but it means it will be a little pricier. The Evil Roy is $115 minus your nutnfancy 15% discount. That's outstanding value and I think the Swinger plate is too considering durability.
nutnfancy 2 months ago
Your target is illuminated by a "fenix quark turbo flashlight"? Maybe this will be a new joint venture between fenix and four sevens that we just haven't heard about

Lethal0ption 2 months ago in playlist TACTICAL and GUN PHILOSOPHY VIDS by Nutnfancy
Just realized the hostage swinger is 550 steel. Bonus. I'd like the large bore dualing tree but man, it's $400 for 500 steel. Ouch. This might have to do.

02GMCdmax 2 months ago
Dude nutn, I live in Henderson, when we shoot in desert here we pick up our site better than it was before we got there. It does suck to see people trash the lands we all use. Guys like you and other military did not sacrifice their lives to have these low life's trash our landscape. And please always pick up your brass, you can reload it or trade with others who do.. Get creative people!
02GMCdmax 2 months ago
nutn, do you (and the crew members) pick up all your brass when you go out on BLM land? Do you use a magnetic tool or somethin?

Hey Nutn, you should do a "ruger run" where you use like an sr-556 and an sr-1911 or something and do that with all big name manufacturers. ( S&W, Kel-Tec, Sig, ect.) it would be fun too see.
