  • Just wonderful! Thank you for posting! : )

  • I love this video!

  • This is awesome! Geddy Lee looks like Ace Ventura. Jim Carrey is also Canadian (I know, no s**t.) Geddy Lee should've been in the mosh pit in that movie. Would've made the scene more hilarious.

  • RUSH=unlimited musical talent, easily one of the all time best bands playing studio music or live, simply second to none.

  • Amazing. Simply amazing.

  • Oh God! Great video!

  • the coolest neils ever looked here.

  • you know your in for a treat when the last verse is sung at 2:40 and the video is 5 minutes long

  • Also are they ever gonna release the Tt

  • 4:54 that shot is epic also s

  • this only 1 of the few bands that sound better live

  • I love this damn video, it gives me goosebumps.

  • i hope that bass is 18

  • unreal

  • this is such a cool video for this song. Love the song version, and the editing throughout the stages of their career couldn't be better

  • Unbelievable, love RUSH so much

  • that bass solo woow! *goosebumps* simply epic :)

  • Best Closer to the Heart I've ever heard. The bass solo! My god...

  • THE BEST BAND EVER............

  • No one can truthfully say this isn't emotionally moving. Lovin tha rush!

  • What can one say except RUSH!!!! I love you guys!!!!!

  • I love this song. I love how they showed the older vid.

  • I CAN BARELY contain the EXCITEMENT--RUSH is NEARLY here--

  • I can barely contain the excitement ---RUSH IS NEARLY HERE---wooooohooo!

  • My Air Force buddy Lawrence Maxwell turned me onto this tune back when we both worked at Ehrling Bergquist hospital at Offutt AFB back 1975-79. Miss ya Max.

  • *holds mouse over 2:52: clicks every minute or so multiple times

  • I love how they took footage from Exit Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure, A Show of Hands, and Test For Echo and edited it perfectly. I saw this tour in Nashville and, needless to say, it was incredible! My only question is, did they record just the one song for a video, or did they record an entire show? If it was an entire show, then where is the DVD? After all, they played the whole 1st side of 2112 on this tour! If it hasn't been released yet,it's probably never gonna be released. Bass solo!

  • @drewper73 Technical issues. Alex has said that they want to release it, and the problems can be fixed with today's technology. I have it on good athority that when they were working on it that it nearly got completed. Then Neil's tragedies took place and put a stop to everything Rush. Hopefully we will see it someday.

  • 1 person disliked this, really? are they deaf? This is incredible, Rush fucking ROCKS!!!

  • Rush - Rock in Roll hall of Fame inductees...2012!

  • that bass breakdown around 2:52, fucking amazing

  • Best 3 piece ever!

  • 2:51 to 3:27, this is how you play the bass

  • 4:55 , beauty ehh???

  • the whole video is awsome best part has to b at 2:54

  • Nice work jaymanxyz2...more please!

  • Dam ! ! ! I love the bass solo in this video !

    J.

  • Unreal bass player.

  • better live version.....

  • Also: 2:01 - Best. Drumstick. Flip. Ever.

  • Jesus, Geddy Lee can't have done huge amounts of drink, drugs and cigarettes over the years. That's the only explanation I can think of for why he can still hit those high notes.

I think this song's lyrics are ridiculous, but it still sounds great. Rush are in many ways a ridiculous band, but a great one. I grew up in Ireland where U2 was basically the national rock band. How I wish I'd grown up in Canada instead.

  • Alex playing a Paul Reed Smith guitar !! Cool !! One of these days........! Peace Ye`all !!

  • geddy lee is a frekin god

  • @astrosjake - no, he's a dude - you douchenozzle

  • Holy fucking trinity aint no father no son nor spirit... In the name of geddy, lex and neil peart, AMEN.

  • If I ever found a country, this is the national anthem.

  • Who's the idiot who didn't like this song!!!

  • @BassWhiz92 ooops haha jk i made 80 accounts jus to like this sony 80 times, and every other rush song mother fukers!

  • @superslayerguy That's not a bad idea lol

  • I am not even a big fan of RUSH but this is the best video on Youtube.

  • the best bassist i have ever seen!!

  • My favorite version of this song.

  • My favorite RUSH video.

  • Sick.

  • Neil Pert should grow that 70's mustache again.

  • the jumpsuit mustache combo neil had is boss

  • @zachjohnston19 all part of the Canadian tuxedo, my friend.

"the blacksmith and the artist reflect it in their art"

  • Rush reminds me of myself and my two oldest friends....

  • this brings a tear to me left eye

  • Perfectly put together my friend, "hats off"

  • neil looks really tired in the 98 segments..

  • That is SUCH an awesome version of an already excellent song! It quickly became my favorite RUSH song--and that's saying something!

  • Nice mix from the ages. Rush from 1977? to 90 something? Like it and a good testimony to the longevity of the band and the quality of the music, especially live. That's what Rush is all about in a basic sense isn't it. Thanks;

  • @Chrometourm

    they've aged very well.

  • Excellent!

  • They absolutely tore the end of this song up!!!!! AWESOME!!!! I remember the first time I heard this track (great video now too). Over the hill my ass......I think these guys are tighter live than ever and I think Geddy is getting even more kick ass with age.....and that's just WRONG!!!!

  • Rush is 1000% Talent every single person in that band is a virtioso at what they do

  • @Assassin0798 AMEN

  • i just became a huge rush fan

  • que puteria!!!!!

  • I love the old clips mixed in this video. :D

  • Some bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

    Aretha Franklin

    Clyde McPhatter

    Ricky Nelson

    Wilson Pickett

    Booker T. & the M.G.'s

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five

    Run-D.M.C.

And still no Rush. Boycott the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • @sweetdeborra they don't wanna be in the rock and roll hall of fame for that reason - they think the whole institution is a joke, and don't want to be among those crappier bands.

Canadian Rock'n'Roll hall of fame FTW!!

  • Thank you for posting.Rush is simply amazing. They will be admired even hundreds of years from now.

  • i went to the link

  • Why am I so young? Most of Rush's career was before I was even born. And I was merely three years old when this performance was recorded. :'(

Nevertheless, my love for this band is steadfast. I love them and always will. <3

Like my dad said one night: "One hell of a band." And that's an understatement! ^_~

  • Great Video. Thanx jaymanxyz2

  • @MrTokken88 Welcome

  • Great band, but oh those '80s haircuts...

  • Absolutely amazing. Rush has it all, that's why they're my fav band, along with Floyd. Neil Peart is God.

  • They assassinated this song.

  • Octubre.. en Santiago de Chilee

  • is this '78 and 2002?

  • Thumbs up for Geddy's late 70's hairstyle. Very cool.

  • Yes this is available live the CD is actually called Different Stages and its probably the best versions of all your favorite songs.

  • Do they still jam like this in concert? I get to see em in Florida for the 1st time in October, (front row near Alex) . I cant wait, may need a second mortgage to pay for my trip but worth it!!

  • @SammyPrairiechicken its very much worth it... seeing them is like seeing the cheech and chong reunion on stage.

  • People can say whatever they want to about Geddy Lee's voice...but you'll never convince me that there's a more talented band of MUSICIANS than Rush...EVER.

  • @greenskiis EVER!!!!!!

  • WTF i have this cd but where is the Different Stages DVD----I HATE seeing so many professionally filmed live shows on youtube that are not on dvd----theres some from the T4E tour and other tours

  • @joel95ex they filmed this show in 97 for a DVD release but there were some technical problems so it got scrapped.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs in history of rock

  • one of their best live songs

  • Rush FTW!

  • rush son lo mejor geddy lee no te mueras nunca

  • very cool mix of rush through time. I have seen this way above EPIC band nine times and hope to make it ten this year. I am glad I lived in the time of RUSH. They got me through many hard times and made the good times even better. I consider them the friends I never met in person. I wish I could thank them just once. Theirs has been the most important music and meanings behind in my life. If you don't 'get' Rush...I don't get you. THANKYOU Geddy; Alex and Neil!!!

  • @YouTees

    Well put !

I feel the EXACT same way

  • The link isn't dangerous

  • Damn, I've GOT to see these guys in concert.

  • I was at this concert when this video was recorded! I was so close I could see the sweat beads on Geddy it was a hot July night! The 10th time I saw the greatest band on the planet!!! Greatest Band Ever !!!

  • Greatest Band Ever!!

    Can't wait for the Documentry!!

  • AMAZING!!!! I they are the greatest! no doubt! thank you for the post

  • Face it. Rush is like a fine wine. They get better with age. I love the drop editing of their music video and past performances mixed with the Test for echo live performance.

  • seeing these guys live from the 7th row was the best thing that ever happened to me that year! i just wish i had a taste of those roasting chickens that were cooking the entire show!

  • Absolute class! Sorry Oasis, but you're just playing at it.

  • BASS SOLO!!

  • @kiddiecobbler1

Im in the same situation as you. I can't stop watching the bass solo and Lifeson and Neil!

  • Can't stop returning to rewatch this vid - in amazement of Geddy's bass solo, Lifeson's return service and Neil's finale. This vid must be on a DVD surely - I need it now - please help!!

  • the sound of his fender jazz blows me away how does he get it :o

  • keeps it flat, jacks up gain and 25k treble slider, and plays HARD

  • oh and the trace elliot amps help a lot too

  • I don't know, but if you think that's good you should've heard that Rickenbacker that he used to play. Now that was an awesome sounding bass.

  • I love this song so much and its awsume how they showed many stages of them in the past playing this song.

  • This song reminds me of a Rickenbacker bass my buddy bought for $100 bucks.

  • I think Neal looks better with face hair just my opinion

  • Where do I get this on DVD so I can play it on my sound system - seems to me it was on YouTube some time ago and got pulled (for copyright reasons?)

  • is this live version available on cd?

  • Should be.

  • Yup. The album is called "Different Stages"

  • @dbriffraff1977

Yes, it is available on the "Different Stages" live CD

They did this on the "Hold Your Fire" tour as well, with it being a 'little' bit different

I REALLY enjoy this version better

I hope to hear this version on this upcoming tour, as they have not extended this song with the instumental at the end since the 'Test For Echo' tour

  • @dbriffraff1977 yes, its on Different Stages live album

  • @dbriffraff1977 yeah rush different stages

  • @dbriffraff1977

It is, on the live album Diffirent Stages.

  • @dbriffraff1977 YES!

  • @dbriffraff1977

yes it is on a cd

  • @dbriffraff1977 it is on the DIFFERENT STAGES CD...i've read geddy saying that this was their favorite live version ever released...

  • I heard this was cobbled from various sources, but mixing ESL footage with T4E tour stuff?

    Jeez....

  • wooo! best video of closer to the heart yet i love the sound of the jazz in this videos in the last tour the jazz didn't sound all that good it sounded a bit to bright

  • that jazz sounded fucking beast when he ran it through those amps

  • That link is so tempting...

  • Go if you really want to, but I can't tell you what inside.

  • damn i cant get that bass solo out of my head its amazing both the band and the solo

  • @Byakuya626

I know what you mean love that solo too. RUSH is awesome!

  • @Byakuya626 Same here. Sometimes I get in a mood and I will listen to this over, and over.

  • Awesome - well made and a pleasure to watch.

  • Yes - I think they did a great job with this video.
