In Canada it's mandatory to learn french from grade 4 to grade 9. It being our second official language. Most French professors are kind of loopy though.

@SpongyOLlama I attended school in Ontario and it was MANDATORY for me at least, (As well as the rest of my classmates.) to learn to speak french. And I didn't say you couldn't speak a different language, or learn another language, for that matter, but it is at least mandatory to learn it in the public school system. Now, that may be different in other school boards in Ontario, (Catholic, Private... etc.) or other public schools, but in all of the schools I have attended I had to learn French.

@SpongyOLlama Okay you're Canadian and you speak German. Did I ever say that you couldn't because you live here? And if what I'm assuming is wrong then by all means correct me, but French is CANADA'S SECOND OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. We have two official languages French and English. I never said that you weren't allowed to speak other languages under the law because French and English are our official languages. And for the record you can.

@SpongyOLlama Nah it's okay. My friends almost never understand what I'm saying anyways. So I guess that makes me really cryptic. I'd love to be able to speak German. I can speak a few words in Japanese though and I'm trying to learn Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Ummm that might be a little cryptic but basically I want to learn how to read Japanese.
