@Mstealth89 That's the Canadian version which is newer than Tugs, itself is based off of Tugs. Salty's Lighthouse is likewise based off of Tugs and is classed as the American version.

I remember this used to be on a kid's shows block here in the States called Salty's Lighthouse..... They cut out a lot from the original episodes here on YouTube... Especially this episode. They cut out the death of Big Mickey, Thumper escaping the fire, and a lot of the camera shots that showed the port burning to the ground. Yet, they kept the part where Ten Cents is nearly blown to pieces.

that intro music is really powerful !! was expecting a guy to pass the screen belting out a sax solo :p :p all kids shows now just have a snappy cool hip theme song nothing wrong with that but this show was really unique

This is the darkest episode of TUGS in my opinion. The explosions and deaths in Munitions used to scare me when I was a kid. But I found Bluenose a funny character even though the explosions were his fault.

This was the best thing I ever watched as a kid. Why? Because it had it all.

Excitement, adventure, horror, loss, lessons, rewards and consequences. I know a great many soft-headed people who would say this is too scary or too grown up for a kid too watch. Watching parts like big mickey's death, or the galleon scene in ghosts still give me chills, and I'm 20. I've still got them all on VHS and my kids will grow up with them. Kids would have better childhoods if modern tv was more like this.

@bigmeknurgle I'm close to the same age as you. I only had two or three on VHS, Up River was a little scary but not really. I don't see it as too grown up either. And watching it now the lessons they teach are pretty well-informed, rather open-minded, which I'm glad. I don't like the biased unthinking self-righteous sort of lessons that some programmes have.

In the TV version, they added Captain Stars voice. "And lying in shallow water saved Big Mickey from fire and explosion". I grew up on the VHS, which never had that added sentence. Without that excuse as a child, I was forced to accept the death of one of my favourite characters.

The VHS only had 2-3 episodes each, and they weren't in order. Munitions and Regatta were the last ones I saw, so I presumed they were the last episodes. When that dock collapsed, Mickey was gone forever.
