This brings back fab memories for me! The guy I was seeing in 1984 (to whom I'm married now! That's another story...) introduced The Teardrop Explodes to me with this iconic '80's New Wave song! I think Cope is lovely to look at as well as having a great voice. Happy memories!
@cheyennebritbrat there is only one good live performance show and thats late with jools holland on bbc2. you can see some fantastic bands old and new on there, I dont watch it that often but when I do there is often little gems on there.
I love this song and I agree with some others they are much bettee than echo and the bunnymen
Alan Gill is an underrated guitarist, his guitar style reminds me to Syd Barret's. I listened Compass Cumpass of his band Dalek I Love You and it was marvelous, as it sounded more mature than OMD's debut album, I'm interested in Gill's equipment, isn't he using a Fender Telecaster in that OGWT? Did he use it during the Compass Cumpass recording?
the keyboard player david balfe went on to become the head of sony records, blur wrote a song about him'house in the country' because he retired at a young age

A very under-rated group. Always far more intertesing than the Bunnymen for me. Less mannered. Better singer.

@LilacNell I agree..I always preferred Teardrop Explodes...Echo and the Bunnymen had some good songs, but some songs for me were a bit dull.
