In my opinion everything is alive (or dead, depending on how you want to look at it.) It simply varies in its level of complexity (a chimpanzee would be more complex than a rock.) Also, its properties make it very effective in supporting life as we know it. So it is more than likely that other life forms would base themselves off of water. However, some life forms may not need water. Other than that, you make an excellent point.

Sending bacteria is also usefull because you can have terraforming.
For example certain bacteria use carbon and exceed oxygen, thinking logically before you can have advanced life you would need an atmosphere and oxygen, so sending bacteria that 'form' the planet to a way that is more suitable for more complex organisms seems like a hint in a good direction.

Again, i've addressed this with others already... my amended statement is that we can only seek for life as we know it, because we cannot do otherwise... however there is new news from a scientist out there who has been able to make self organizing cellular structures from metals, indicating that carbon based life forms may not be the only type of lifeforms in the universe.

besides. what YOU think is wrong. we always need to challenge the established ideas because it is our job to. can you imagine if people never challenged what was considered the established truths of the times? we would have never achieved quantum physics for example. edward hubble was not even a physicist, yet thorugh his discoveries we found out that the universe is ever expanding vs the steady state universe.

Sending bacteria is also usefull because you can have terraforming.
For example certain bacteria use carbon and exceed oxygen, thinking logically before you can have advanced life you would need an atmosphere and oxygen, so sending bacteria that 'form' the planet to a way that is more suitable for more complex organisms seems like a hint in a good direction.
Or at least thats how I would spread my roots all over the universe.

I like to think of evolution as a program, picture you want to spread your race across the universe, whats the easiest way? Take the basic buildingblocks (bacteria) and spread those, If they arrive on planets that can support life, they (bacteria) will eventually start evolving. Who knows, maybe in a few million years we may look like aliens to early humans)

Life can exist in extreme places for example we found fish under cold extreme temperature and we found bacteria near volcanoes. So that life can happen in extreme place they will just be different like fishes and animals.

@smithsmithdt It's definitely possible, I think it is more probable that inter-dimensional travel will be readily available sooner than humanity thinks, physics is about to advanced on an unimaginable level and we're on the brink of it's discovery. I feel as if many of the supposed UFO's we claim to see are more-or-less from different eras and dimensions rather than distant points in space/time.

Light travels at 2.98 x 10^8 m/s (165,000 mps) and even something traveling that fast takes around 85,000 years to get from one end of our galaxy to the other. And our extremely vast galaxy is so small compared to the rest of the universe it is unimaginable. If life conveniently happened on this planet, in this tiny corner of the universe, than it happened somewhere else as well. The odds of it not are near impossible. Its like saying there's only 1 fish in all of Earths oceans.
