Your JD resembles mine, is it a male or female? I'm trying to find out the sex of mine but I keep hearing both male and female from people. There's a vid of it on my Youtube
i just bought 14 jack dempseys from a local dealer, dont worry im not keeping them all...... but can anyone tell me the easiest way to tell male from female??
hey, i have a jack dempsey too. its about 5 inches long and in a 10 gallon tank. i have it for about 3 years already. when i first had it. it was only about an inch big and it stops growing now. i feed him the Aquarian brand cichlid pellet food. Can anyone please tell me what i should do to let it grow more? is it the size of the tank or the food? please help if anyone can give me some suggestions thanks a lot

Jacks are not very picky eaters. They will eat just about anything that will fit in their mouth. I generally feed mine Cichlid pellets with the occasional tubifex or frozen blood worms. I also toss in some live feeders and live plants for them to eat for a varied diet on a regular basis..
