For someone who's not a singer Cynda did a great job. The music from the entire film was so wonderful that it helped to work this song in beautifully. This performance has enchanted me for years.
Cynda William's didn't have a strong vocal range. I do believe that was part of the mediocrity Spike Lee was referring to in the script because Bleek was the deep passionate composer while Shadow was interested in pleasing the crowd and Clark was the lovely but weak singer. The conclusion was that Bleek was right in his assessment of mediocre music and people but that they often win out in public. From Kenny G to Lady Gaga!
@pachacutti Bleek's conclusion is definitely true...sadly so. Music is not what it used to be...whatever happened to getting better? The music biz only got bigger. I actually like Lady Gaga because at least she's creative and she can actually sing. Back to Cynda...I cringe cuz her singing is some kind of nasally, fake falsetto sound. No wonder I never heard anything else from her. And other girls need to stop trying to sing like her on youtube. Support, resonance, voice placement...look it up.

oh aiight you sound fine just wanted to say something to someone in that time and now we have American Idol. What is that dudes name again? The nasty judge? oh yeah Simon Cowell(lol)
Beautifully done!! I neva get tired of listening to this song!! Last time I was in Harlem I could hear this song in my mind....silly I know!! *sighs & restarts*
Wait, I just watched a different version of this video and her voice sounded much deeper. But this is the version I always heard and I kept thinking while watching the other vid, she sounds so much lower. So I am thinking the other version is the real one.
What a song!!! We don't get anything beautiful and touching like this anymore. Ms. Williams' vocals are perfectly poignant. Can't get any better than this!!! A true gem of a song.
One of my all time favorite movie scenes. This is a scene that you'll never forget. It's been etched in my memory ever since I first saw the movie eight years ago. :-)
I have had a fascination with this song & pic for years.
