Hey Aaron, ur vids are rly helpful! please keep them coming! in the bit you play at the end, how do you do those really fast strums between chords? i've been trying to figure it out, i see shimabukuro do similar things, but i can't quite get a handle on it. Anything you'd sugest?
@OfficeAddict007 Whatever feels most comfortable. In Hawaii kids start on Soprano and mostly go onto the other sizes. They are just different sounds and feel. Aloha!
my finger and fingernails get caught if i strum with more than my pointer finger, im scared my uke string might snap. anyone have any ideas to deal with this? :/
so i was doing a lot of the "chucking" strums that you were doing towards the end of your vid...and the face plate of my ukulele started to have these tiny scratches from my nails. am i doing it wrong or is that bound to happen?
It's bound to happen, it does to mine, especially if you chuck a lot, :) just wear and tear, if you polish iI'm pretty sure you can make those scratches disappear, but I leave it there so people know my uke is played. I mean look at santana's acoustic guitar so much wear xD
Is there a wrong way to strum? I like to use my thumbnail on the up stroke and one or two fingernails (index, middle) on the down. It sounds nice and full, but is it technically correct?
i got my ukulele 4 days ago and ive been practicing this cord progression. i still have soe tweeking to do but its a great cord progression. great videos thanks for all the help. what are some other cord progressions for begginiers?
I just got my first ukulele for about £15 but want to upgrade to something a bit better! Maybe around £50-70. Or is it worth changing the strings and trying to improve the one i have cus im strapped for cash?!?!
Hey Joey man! I upgraded last year - most folks start on a £15er, but want something that sounds better fairly soon.
Here's my honest opinion:
1) You pretty much get what you pay for, but also
2) Any ukulele designed and built as a proper instrument by a proper instrument maker is going to sound so much better than what you hold in your hands now.
So save up as much as you can, try some ukes out, pay what is comfortable for you and then know in you heart "this is the best uke for me!" ...
...because like ANYTHING, especially in music, people love to talk stuff up and down. If you listen to everyone, you think you have to spend £1000 on a genuine vintage curly koa uke or something, but you know what? You don't. There are some great ukes in the price range you mention. Check out Lanikai ukes.
yah ukes have nylon strings and are really small so th strings are fragile so most people play with fingers. i know a girl that used a pick and broke two strings at the same time
this was an awesome lesson - thank you so much - i like how quickly you did it. make me jump right into it. i'm on a budget of $500 for a new pick-up concert uke... any suggestions - sounds like i'm at the same place as jordanc435! thanks!!! can't wait to do more lessons.
hey i went to your website but ukes are super pricey! i have a cheap one but im looking to upgrade. think you can help me find a good one for a decent price?
