there you go made me cry again. always loved this scene. shame i gave my dvd away, to my brother, who doesnt seem to enjoy it as much as i did. unfotunately cnt ask for it back, lol.
I really love this scene, I actually found this from asecond-hand shop and watched it alone when I was sick... and I noticed that I was yelling with them. "Yeeeeaaaaah! All for one, one for all! Gogogogo - gooooo!" And then mum came and ruined my thing. Sigh.
(And I definitely forgot that if five men with swords runs forward about fifteen men with guns, someone of them would be in a wooden suit very soon. But that's just little little thing, eh?)
Even using arquebuses, a voley at that range, in a tight space would hit most of them.
Of couse even if they where all armed with, say M60s, they couldnt hit any of them, because they have the strongest protection in the world... plot armour
@erikankerstjerne5 Correct, but look and you'll notice that at least Athos and Porthos are limping or holding something. Yes they are old, but John Malcovich and Gerard Depardu are both veteran actors and they probably think like you do. Plus, this isn't some little fan club, in the original Three Musketeers D'Artangion had to join a low company before he was able to be re-assigned to the King's Musketeers. These guys were the best of the best of the best oorah.
@erikankerstjerne5 joepicard was right. They closed their eyes because they didn't want to hurt them. D'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, they were the bravest and legendary. So it pains them to see the four hurt.
@erikankerstjerne5 Is not it. They closed their eyes and aimed to the ground. It was in purpose, they were touched by the musketeers' courage and honor and couldn't bear the thought of killing them. It's a matter of emotion and honor.
I love this so much, and I think it's so effective because you actually CARE for these characters, and there was a lot of build up to this moment. (Kind of like the Aragorn/Theoden Helms Deep final charge, followed by the Rohirrim army charge down the hill led by Gandalf in LorR:The Two Towers) Chillingly epic, very powerful!
you know for having been confined to an iron mask most his life he sure keeps his hair sleek and shiny, i shower my hair every day and it doesnt look that good.
best fucking scene in any historical movie ever, this story is history, but this movie is also a movie that belongs in film history: one of the best movies ever
I'm reading the book "The Man in the Iron Mask" by Alexandre Dumas, currently. It is fascinating but so far, totally unlike the film. This is still a great movie!
first time i have ever seen this scene it brought tears to my eyes.. add to that the soundtrack, the theme...and the result.. i remember this scene 10 years after i have first seen it..
Magnificent valour <3 one of the best lines in the history of movies.

Um, and yes, people, Athos is limping, after all, and Porthos walks somehow strange too. (Though, he is more or less wabbling through whole movie.)
