I don't quite understand. They're just taking some DNA. Let them do their experiments, it might actually help some people. As far as I can see, a little blood sample isn't going to kill your baby. And that's all it is. You and your child is in no way effected other than a little syringe taking some blood, something it will have to experience for many vacinations anyway.

1- You wouldn't have to take whole body parts for DNA samples, a piece of hair (as long as the root is still attached) or a blood sample will do.

2- No, I wouldn't mind at all. The DNA that you would extract would no longer be on my body, so any experiments you plan on doing with it would have no effect on my person, relatives, or descendants what so ever.

If these samples did, in some way, harm the baby, this argument would make some sort of since. But they don't. It's just DNA.

However, from a legal stand-point, this involves the 'informed consent' of the parents, and it is essentially illegal. BTW, DNA is also frequently collected during autopsies, which involves the dead, of course. The biggest ethical problem here is that it MAY contain personal indentifiers, which in turn will be shared.

There is a way to have your child removed from the research, the links are on the Citezens' County On Health Care's website, but only for Texas and maybe the other state this is happening in (in the news) I have to contact my state and my hospital tomorrow on monday to see whats the deal here in my state of Oregon.
