I loved how the Joker didn;t give a shit that Batman took his mask off in front of him, & now lots of spin-off series set in the past are playing on the Joker knowing & not caring, like as first suggested in A Death in the Family.
What? As soon as I opened the hardback cover, I knew that chick was evil. Maybe it's because I missed her introduction so she could never really grow on me as a character, but it just kinda felt obvious. Yeah, this is one of the best Jokers around.
Morrison should never writer Joker because its an EPIC FAIL. Thats not the Joker in Morrisons run, its a compilation of the most overused serial killer cliches coupled with Sweeney Todd and all rolled up into a turd that is supposed to be justified by Morrisons "super sanity" retard logic. Im not a Morrison hater, I loved All Star Superman and a lot of his other work but seriously, he needs to just leave the Batman books and definitely should not touch Joker EVER again.
i just got back from wondercon and i spoke up to the heads at DC. i asked what the hells happening and they said well have to wait and see, and Tim doesn't think batman is dead he wants proof. and is going to find out.
I seriously hope they make another batman comic book series though after all they made different decades of batman which in my opnion got better and better so technically batman never dies!
Damn straight, this issue is ALL about the Joker, & anyone who skipped out on Batman 663 because it was a novelette will have missed out on one of the biggest Joker stories ever. It also explains some things that happen in 680.
Know this for a fact because DC's Executive Editor, Dan DiDio taled of the issue to the New York Daily News after BATMAN #681 came out:
- "He's not dead, though hell definitely be gone for a while, DiDio said. Batman and Bruce Wayne have been around long before me and theyll be around long after me." -
I Can't wait to read "the Battle of the Cowl" just to see the look of the bat-family's faces when they find out that Bruce Wayne isn't dead!!!
In Final Crisis 6, we were shunned by an unexpected twist as Batman states that he will actuate an "once in a lifetime exception" by using a gun casing a god bullet to slay Darkseid. At the same time, Darkseid chars Batman with his Omega Sanction, killing him instantly. However, the god bullet caused Darkseid to undergo a slow death on his own. Later on Superman found his corpse on Darkseid's bunker..
I have to lean towards the side of speculation that Bruce Wayne is not dead based on Morrison's statement that it would be "worse than death." Plus seeing Talia's rage and then seeing Ra's on the cover of Nightwing last wk makes me think the pits might be a strong possibility for a story line.
Got a point there. But Morrison said in a interview that Bruce is indeed gone and dead for now. He also praises himself for being the guy who killed Batman and how it affected multitudes of fans. But he also alludes that all things are possible in the comic world.
well he probabily gone..i i dont know wath is the original name...¿"lazarus cave" maybe?, the same way theh Ra's but....welll im not sure. Batman can reborn but ¿does he want?
It's a Lazarus Pit. And I don't think the writers will create a storyline about Batman being doused with the Pit's properties. For what it's worth, reviving him is like tampering his own heroic legacy.
Not a diff universe but DC admits that the books didn't come out in a logical order for reading. Check the wikis on what order to read them and it just might make more sense (I doubt it). Dan D has said "Bruce Wayne can't possibly be dead." Shot with Omega Beams transplants you into a different time/place so he will be back.
rip deals with bruce waynes me being mentality being destroyed, it leads to final crisis where we find out batman always has a back up plan to save his mind. after he escapes from darkseids minions and takes on darkseid and he gets shot with omega beams and it makes him lost in time or something like that, any questions? me too. lol
It is the beginning for a new Batman. Now that Bruce is gone and he has fulfilled his goal of destroying the "embodiment" of evil,(w/c is Darkseid)it is time to give the cowl to someone who can carry on its legacy and responsibility as the new Dark Knight.
Know this for a fact because DC's Executive Editor, Dan DiDio taled of the issue to the New York Daily News after BATMAN #681 came out:
- Hes not dead, though hell definitely be gone for a while, DiDio said. Batman and Bruce Wayne have been around long before me and theyll be around long after me. -
I Can't wait to read "the Battle of the Cowl" just to see the look of the bat-family's faces when they find out that Bruce Wayne isn't dead!!!
Everyone knows nothing is permanent in comics. Batman Beyond showed a generational heir to the throne can be memorable and work in it's own right, but Bruce isnt ready to hang up the cowel. Bruce will be "reinvented" during his state of inactivity (he'll probably also go after all the members of The Black Glove), and confront Dr. Hurt before returning much more dangerous
this isn't bullshit, and it isn't a mistake this is the great!! It's obvious that Bruce Wayne couldn't do this forever, he's getting old and crazier. I can't wait to read Batman 681 and see how it ends, how Bruce Wayne is destroyed (and Morrison said that he isn't going to die, that something much worse is going to happen to him). If you haven't been reading Batman comics lately I strongly recommend to do so, and enjoy the Grant Morrison era. (Oh yeah, don't miss Final Crisis too)
Terry McGuinness has not been the comics (to my knowledge) within continuity but the whole retired Bruce with a new protege worked out really well in Batman Beyond. If you want to see an old battered Bruce then read Kingdom Come. But that's the thing - it's been done. Bats isn't just crazy (he was partially drugged and partially from his starvation/mediation in Nanda Parbat); he could heal from those things. It's a good time for Huge Strange to come into the picture, imo.
Exactly. I've read Batman 681 already and God, the ending was great! It makes me so curious to know how Bruce makes it just in time for Final Crisis, and how he will aid Gotham in 682-683.
Regardless of what happens to Bruce/Batman, I think The Joker will die before this whole thing is done:
1) Dr. Hurt, having no more use for his "faithful servant," will empty a chamber into his pasty white forehead.
2) After witnessing the end of Batman as he knows him, the Clown Prince of Crime will slaughter the remaining members of the Black Glove (he's already started) and then put a bullet in his own head. If the "straight man" is gone, there's no need for the clown.
Thanks for finally pointing out an anomally that has been driving me nuts. Even though two face referenced Nightwing's stay in Arkham in the past tense, in issue 148, it hasn't been shown how he escaped, or even, how he was captured. I love Morrison, but this arc is all over the place. Really annoying.
I am confused about this storyline, is this the end of Batman? Is Bruce Wayne going to be killed off? DC is making a big mistake in doing this to one of their best characters. They did the same to Superman back in the early 90s by killing him off but they resurrected him. Will DC do the same with Batman?
I think any changes to who Batman is would be similar to the "broken back" storyline when Azrael took over the mantle of Batman for a while. I think Bruce is only temporarily insane and will go through a discovery process to regain his identity. But that's just my theory; my DC sources won't even tell me anything.
Ah huh. I agree. The "end" that Morrison intends for Batman might not be a total death, but it could be implied as something else, most probably a psychological and emotional downfall for the Dark Knight. Do you remember Grant's statement during Comic-Con? He said that he will bring something greater than death to Batman, and that killing Bruce Wayne would simply end the Batman saga.
I dont know, Jezebel is a biblical refernce, where she turned Ahab against god, so it was a bit apparent there was more to her than met the eye. What do you guys think? Also, how about Bruce falling for her so quickly? Most women in his life there is a lot of questioning, but BOOM he falls head over heels for he like that. What do you guys think? Your ideas would be appreciated thanks!
since they were just printing under 70,000 at that time it maybe a hard to find back issue #672-674. since RIP storyline is blowing up Batman is selling over 103,000 copies.
Grant Morrison is studding Alexander Crowley a sick man. that is how is doing a great job writing all these marvelous villians. Grant Morrison has interpeted the illuminatti by having rich families play sick games by this Dance Of Death by the Black Glove. i'll be sad to see The Batman go.
is there something bigger going on?.remember when when batman was held hostage by antichrist batman before r.i.p,antichrist bats told bruce that doctor hurt is really the devil and that he comes up to the surface every now and then for some reason(i cant remember what the reason was exactly).yet,in batman 679 doctor hurt is claiming to be thomas wayne.
i think it is to humiliate Bruce Wayne. if you re-call remember when Commissioner Gordon met Docter Hurt he had a story he wanted to run to ruin Bruce Wayne as well as the Batman. also remember the devil will lie to confuse the truth. Plus you know that the butler Alfred is a respectful gentlemen that has dearly cared for the Wayne family. Oh & please let me know when you dig & find that antichrist people vs The Batman. i want to know what issue number & book that is.
i dont joker cares ether way. he doesn't want bruce wane, he wants batman. i wouldn't be surprised if joker knew from all the back in the day and just doesn't care.
i think he knew from the death of Jason Todd back in Batman #428. remember Bruce Wayne went to the funeral of Jason Todd, plus Bruce Wayne adopted Jason Todd. Joker probably knew almost instantly. Plus when Joker appointed the ambassador of Iran stopped walking when he saw Bruce Wayne. & he just starred at him. my natural intuition told me that he knew. however it was never confirmed only insinuated.
I think Joker knows that Burce Wayne and Batman are all but the same from the very start. I guess he's just keeping the fact for himself in order for him to continue having the same fun that he enjoys in battling and taunting the Dark Knight.
I think so too. Its the Batman persona hes interested in not Bruce, knowing who he is just adds fuel for Joker to use later if he so wishes..or however this whole thing turns out idk.
i read batman 680 and i must admit it was better than the other batman rip issues. However i am not surprised one bit by what is happening. I always had jet on my top 3 for being black glove. I think toward the end bruce is snapping out of his back up personality and the bruce wayne personality is returning.
very funny issue and great joker but kinda predictable.
The Joker could at least have put on a shirt!
It looks like for 70% of the comic he's not even wearing a shirt? What he's just too cool for shirts know? 0_o
