Culshar, I like to use plain ol' cardstock (smooth or only slightly textured, matte, uncoated) for this techinque. It doesn't work well on glossy finishes. You can also try it with colored paper...it looks great on kraft cardstock or even dark colors like black and navy with the light color chalks. (Silver chalk looks pretty on black cardstock, for instance.)
