  • do you know if there is a AC 3 rail Marklin one? item number anyone? thanks

  • @bohemianh Sorry carn`t help., but the cleaner is for the wheels , so I take it you are with a 3 rail track with pickup in center??

  • @howarth004 yes just AC Marklin for me ;o)

  • Can the cleaner be used on DC layouts as well as DCC layouts?

  • @ThomasLives Not having dc , I could not be 100% certain , but I should think so as the current still runs through the track

  • Hmm, doesn't it scratch the conductive layer off? I'm still using the ol' hardboard and tissue!

  • @Rabbitbunvoo Seems to be O K so far,

  • Well Dave I think one might be sneaking onto my Xmas list.

  • @poisonarrowfrog100 Well worth it, One of the biggest problems is keeping wheels clean

    Dave

  • good stuff dave thanks for the very informative vid this will either encourage me to start running my old diesels again or knowing me it will encourage me to buy more diesels off fleebay lol hope all is well cheers

  • @steve allen 808909 They are very useful, I find my old DCC steam engine which are needed to have spotless wheels, have no problem after useing this.

    Dave

  • Thanks for doing this video, I intend getting two of these so I can clean some of the my older Lima locos with relays that are commected to the second unpowered truck.

  • @EWS60008 Well worth it.

  • Trix also make it in N scale. BUT, would it not scratch the wheels?

  • @Daikenboy Well I have been useing it and no problem , I do not press down hard, and really it is only the same as useing a Peco wheel cleaner , but a lot easier

  • Very good wheel cleaner, but if the wheels are partially covered with rubber, you can not use it.

  • @WoelkerVideo As you say with the traction tyres no good, but we do not have many with them, out of 14 I have just one

  • i have one and it is amazing but for some reason mu class 58 hates it.

  • @poisonarrowfrog100 not got a 58 so cannot put an answer to that, but as you say they are good

  • hi dave, i got one of these from durham trains of stanley £22, but i have a prob this does not work with most of my diesels, reason being when i put one set of wheels on it the other set are dangling in mid air so nothings happening , when i place train on the track it moves away because both bogies are on the live rails, my only solution is to buy another to have both bogies on it at once, wouldnt you think this would be the lenth of a diesel to get 2 bogies on , thanks dave.....hugh

  • @wattass7 Hi Hugh, sorry you got a problem there with the diesels, I did a demo there useing the class 37 and it was not a problem, I just held the other bogie in the air, I take it yours have pick ups on both front and rear bogies but as you say 2 put to-gether would make life a lot easier., by the way a guy in the States says he puts Automatic engine oil on his wheels and tracks and never has to clean them,??

    Regards

    Dave

  • Yes - good point - I'll stick to the rubber and IPA! Its a great little thing - my loco's the 0-4-0 types have never run better....

  • yes I did try it on the track - comes up very shiney. Don't want to 'scratch' the track though and create bigger problems.

  • @styalmodelrailway yes should think it could damage the nickel silver coating

  • Yep as you say Dave that is a very handy tool to have,i do not have a railway layout anymore,i used to have many years ago.

I would love to have another one,but i do not have the room nowadays,i will never go small my layout was a big one i modelled it on York Station,so i will have to live on my memories.............John

  • @johnwood57 that would have been a nice one to see, I started out small but sort of got carried away.

    cheers

    Dave

  • Yes - I have two loco's ( cheap) ones with 4 pickups and the wheels and track needs to be really clean to get them to work. This has helped enormously ( that and the IPA) Do you think you could clean the track with the Trix?

  • @styalmodelrailway I think it could be a bit too abrasive for the track, I just use a track rubber and also that track cleaner from Dapol.

  • Got mine today from gaugemster - works a treat

  • @styalmodelrailway they are good, even thinking of buying another as they clip to-gether then it is easier for the diesels

  • nice one dave im going to get a couple, might be a problem with some old lima locos with traction tyres though, thanks for showing us.

  • @488scooby thanks, you will be well pleased, I cleaned an older one of mine last night which did not run as good as the new ones, after cleaning with that device , it was 10 times bettter

  • All my subs' videos had vanished for weeks there. Was starting to think you hadn't uploaded any. Why does Youtube do that?

    Anyway, informative video Dave. Thanks.

(and thanks for still being the only person who takes the time to comment on my new uploads)

  • @Staratino It happened to me a few weeks back Rikki, think youtube have made a few changes , and it seems to have caused a few problems. Just recently I am getting vids comming in from subs that I have not seen for a while

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Wowsers, £25..

  • @daafies2 that`s the price...well worth it though

  • They work great !. I've got one In N-scale.

  • @karelfromholland Certainly make the job easier

  • Looks good how do you do the none driven wheels? manually? thanks

  • @kered43 Afraid so Dereck, although I believe there is a device for that.

    Dave

  • Handy bit of kit this thanks !

  • @realsteam123 Certainly is , thoughaly recommend

  • Thanks again Dave for showing a superb piece of kit that will be of great help to many....Bob

  • @robmasterman well worth having Bob , well pleased with it., I would recomend having one

  • that thing is pretty cool, is it available in the USA?

  • @trainguy3 Not sure , just try Google it, they are made in Germany by Trix , and all the big shops will export .

  • @howarth004 okay, thank you for replying

  • Nice bit of kit Dave .

  • @REGWARNE12 Certainly worth the money Phil, very usefull

  • Dave are those Trains heavy you was doing a bit of puffing

  • @hawley00 Been working with them that long am doing the same as the steam ones ..Puffing!!! always reaching over Paul that is the problem

  • I see you had a steam locomotive, what model is it. Don't see steamers these days.

  • @ATSF1927 It is the Hornby black 5 , with sound.

  • Nice demo dave , dcc supplies do one for the wagons which has a powered wheel turner, jim

  • @hovermotion That would be a handy one to have Jim, will take a look at that later on

    Dave

  • @howarth004 I've got the very item. It's called the Wheel Doctor, i'll have to do a video on that at some point. Most def though will get a couple of these Trix cleaners, good stuff David :-)

  • @ay76 Look forward to seeing that one Iain, but this certainly save some struggling.

  • @howarth004 Indeedy.

  • @ay76 are they expensive?? and who supplies them...???

    Dave

  • @howarth004 DCC supplies, not sure what the current price is. Should still be on their website though.

  • Well have ordered one from Gaugemaster - thanks for the info

  • @styalmodelrailway You will be happy with it. and if you have money to spare get 2 , join them up then you can do both axles on th big diesels at one go. (bit expensive though)

  • This tool is a handy, to have,it will make my life a lot easyer,

    A job well done Dave.

P.S Were can i pick one of these up.

    Phil

  • @TornadoSteam81 I got mine here in Bridlington from my local hornby shop .

Will send you via message of there web site. Think most of the big suppliers will have them now.

    Dave

  • @drwhotrainfan cOULD COME IN HANDY FOR YOU THOMAS

  • Thanks for that Dave. I wont be buying one though. All I use is a piece of paper kitchen towel which I soak with methylated spirits laid on the track. Place one bogie on the paper the other on the track turn on the power and Bobs you uncle. That is fine for 4 and 6 axled diesels but your Trix wheel cleaner would make cleaning the wheels of steamies easier.

    Ken

  • @KaEFKen1 i KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN KEN , i ALSO USE YOUR METHOD, BUT THE PAPER SOMETIMES GETS A BIT DRAGGED , BUT THIS WAY AND IF YOU CAN BUY TWO AND JOIN THEM MAKES THE JOB EASY

  • Yes Dave - I think I am going to order one from gaugemaster. How long is it BTW?

  • @styalmodelrailway btw? AS YOU CAN SEE IT TAKES THE THREE BIG AXLES ON THAT BLACK 5 , AND THE 37 I HAD TO DO FRONT AXLES THEN BACK , BUT AY76 POINTED OUT THAT YOU CAN JOIN 2 TO-GETHER TO MAKE IT EASIER, BUT THEN YOU ARE TALKING £50 , THE WIDTH IS CORRECT FOR FITTING ON THE TRACK AND CORRECT FOR THE WIDTH OF THE AXLES

  • Good stuff david, & another handy cleaning bit of kit :-) I've noticed that you can add another unit to the one you show. Good Un ho chap :-)

  • @ay76 It would be better with 2 for the big one`s but then it gets a bit expensive , whack O old boy

  • thanks Dave, interesting product!

  • @strafrag1 Well worth the money Peter

    Cheers

    Dave

  • thanks dave im gonna have me self one of them cheers m8

  • @wattass7 Good piece to have Hugh , as we all know it`s a nuicence cleaning wheels, and not the easiest of jobs.

    Dave

  • interesting product. that material used for cleaning? is abrasive type?

  • @Branch170 Yes it is like the peco wire brush, works well

  • i need to get one of those.where did you get it and how much? i use the peco wheel cleaner and it can be a long and painfull process!

  • @bloodmarine77 I bought this from Croppers Models here in Bridlington £25.50 they are on line, and probably get it from gaugemasters now, if you havea problem let me know

    Dave

  • @howarth004 cheers dave.you made it look so easy to clean the wheels now as dirty wheels are a huge problem in this hobby.

    regards

    terry.

  • @bloodmarine77 It is worth the money Terry

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Great little item, even though i have relco track voltage rail cleaners the loco,s with dcc still need cleaned periodically as do the rolling stock, thanks for a less painful solution Dave.

  • @sheba31 Good one to buy Tony

    Cheers

    DAve

  • Great little assistant! :) Thank you for the show!

  • @trainfart A nice piece of eqipment to have

    Cheers

    Dave

  • @KinletHallsthebest Yes it is also made for n gauge

  • Comment removed

  • I would like to have the Franchise on thatlittle item! Thanks for showing

  • @irondawson Nice handy piece Stephen, save some hard work

  • Very useful tool - I hate using IPA and Q tips etc

  • @styalmodelrailway I used to hold 2 wires on the wheels, then useing a cotton bud soaked in cleaner , try and clean the wheels as they turned, what a pain , this makes it easy.

  • does the set of wheels being cleaned need pickups in order to turn them?

  • @themymysteryman101 The Loco`s I have are all dcc, with pick ups, but as the curent is comming through the tracks , I should think it would work with analogue.

  • nice piece of kit there, i just got a rolling road with detatchable wheel cleaning units but there not ideal, great vid

  • @TheLukei I am well pleased with it., cheers for the comment

  • I wonder if they do them in O gauge?, nice tool you have there dave

  • @chrisrussell1 Not sure, I know they do the N gauge, it saves a lot of fiddling about.

  • Great info on a handy gadget. I could really do with one!

  • @bobtoo07 should be in the shops now, they have been on order at my local one for a while, and I know other places I tried before where all sold out, so new orders must have been deliverd

  • Awesome

  • @TruckerJamesHorrell It works

  • Clever idea! Nice cleaner, nice video

  • @08crouchr thought it may interest one or two, it is a good addition

  • great video mate :)

  • @theLEGOcommander1 hope it helps a few with that wheel cleaning problem

  • Nice Video There, Liked and Faved.
