  • I would love to go hear him talk. Sad that this happened in Michigan.

  • get a life and quit admiring him who cares about god or no god

  • Anyone know what age category the book is for roughly?

  • @Yony42 Technically,from pre-school age.

  • Were the protesters Dawkins supporters protesting against The Wyndgate Country Club for discrimination or theists protesting against Dawkins?

  • Now if that place was in England lawsuits would appear and be won.

  • The country club will never experience his awesomeness :D

  • This place must be a FOX News Country Club favorite spot, I'll bet there's no blacks, no Jews and no gays there either!

  • I don't know if Richard Dawkins is a genius, but he is certainly a well-spoken debater, who have dedicated his career to educating the public. He is making a big difference, and I'm a big fan.

  • @kebakent - I would say he is a genius in his particular field. Although he is a good debater, he sometimes appears to be held back by his need to be certain of every point he makes (no doubt from his years in the scientific community). This has occasionally led to moments of apparent awkwardness where he is thoughtful on a response before giving one - something some members of the theist community like to exploit. I am a fan, and I enjoy watching his videos, but he is no Hitch when debating.

  • @kebakent (cont) Although the one time I did see him debating William Lane Craig (I believe it was in Mexico) he (and his team) absolutely wiped the floor with Craig and his posse, something Hitch failed to do (though I think Hitch could destroy Craig on most nights).

  • I'm too distraught to even write a comment !

  • Best part "he took the word of Bill O'Reilly"

  • Im going to buy my son this book for christmas. :)

  • I'am awaiting this Book in Poland ;)

  • Only in America

  • Bill O'Reilly must have cracked a boner when he heard the news of the cancellation due to an interview on his crap show..

  • This is hilarious!

They cancelled Richard Dawkins because - SHOCK! HORROR! - he admitted being an atheist on Bill O'Reilly!

Like "we didn't realise he was an atheist - this changes everything!"

Morons - he's right to sue them as they wasted his time and effort which could have been used somewhere else more accomodating.

  • I was at the protest! A lot of great people there. Good without god!

  • Thank you for the courage of some Fox News reporters to not follow Murdochs general conservative line. We greatly appreciate that.

  • I thought atheism was not a religion? You know, bald is not a hair colour? So wouldn't that constitution thing not apply to atheism? I SENSE A DOUBLE STANDARD HERE!!!

  • @OhManTFE The 1797 Treaty with Tripoli declares that “the government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” This was written under Washington’s presidency, and approved by the Senate under John Adams.

  • @SongsofFallenHeroes Yes but that misses my point entirely. The treaty also allows freedom of religion. But for atheism to use this 'freedom of religion' excuse doesn't make sense because, as all atheists say, atheism isn't a religion, and should therefore be exempt.

  • Hopefully the controversy will sell more books for Dawkins.

  • I have to say, this is probably the best, least-biased thing I've ever seen on FOX. The entire time I was expecting them to say something objectionable. Good job, FOX.

  • ......book presentations around the world but name of your country club will always stuck out as a refference to religious discrimination and bigotism.

    yours sincerely (never faithfully),

  • my email to vyndgate:

    To whom it may concern,

I write with reference to Richard Dawkins cancelation. You just proved to the whole world, not just to those who live their lives without celestial dictatorship but also to those that were on the verge of becoming atheists and needed just a little support in a form of a proof, that religion is not the force of good in the world, instead, it brings out the worst in people. Thank you for this, Richard will surely have lots of book presentations aroun

  • you are an idiot if the watch bill o reilly

  • Broken contract... OWNED!

  • I love how Richard Dawkins says : instead of reading the book he took the word of Bill O'Reilly :D

  • You think the notion of god started with a quark?.....or was it a quack?

  • Sounds like a wanker club filled with hillbilly Bill O cock buffers. I'd hide my face if I had a membership there

  • Send a letter or 50 to the Wyndgate, let them know in a nice way they are now a world joke and simple hill billies, who let Bill O'retard think for them.

    The Wyndgate

    1975 West Gunn Road

    Rochester Hills, MI 48306

Let serve them, this is so outragous, these same people would rush to defend a pedophile priest and call it moral.

  • Lets all email the Cuntry Club and suggest a sign out the front with a picture of Ben Stein "No Intelligence Allowed" just so everyone knows the ethos of members.

  • Sue the fuckers.

  • @jshowa4 For the record, I'm finding it a bit tough to be objective here. Again, I hope Dawkins' ploy succeeds brilliantly, but I can't help groaning a little in sympathy. If not sympathy, at least empathy. They are losing HUGE and this book is one hell of a hit. Nevertheless, they have it coming.

  • @jshowa4 I agree with you, but don't you think simply placing the Judeo-Christian myths alongside the other myths in a children's book counts as a nuke? All I'm saying is that Dawkins' and others have spoken eloquently and very convincingly on the subject of child indoctrination by the religious, so he should expect criticism of using basically the same tactics, even though they are subtly employed and for the right reasons. I don't think the theists are right, just rightly pissed (and impotent)

  • @BayAreaAtheist No. But I would really like to see it. Can you find a link? Please :)

  • I think Dawkins will be welcomed in moderate Australia next year. When I see the outright fear and hatred from the American religious groups I feel really worried for our future, I can't believe how crazy the religious nuts are over there and I can't stand evangelicals, they all need to be woken up with a good hard slap in the face. Atheist and proud

  • LOL I thought I saw Dark Side of the Moon at 2:18.

Bill, you ARE stupid, but don't blame religion for it.

  • Another effort to shut down logic and reason for a myth. Shame on RHCC. Shame!

  • i'm surprised that, this being fox news, there was less of an apparent bias against dawkins. they seemed to actually report the situation pretty well. what the fuck

  • Go Richard!

  • crikey - only 500 years to accept gravity! But wait, they've only just 'pardoned' Galileo - for which I will NEVER forgive them for persecuting him in the first place. There's too much stupid around.

  • Whoa Whoa Whoa.

Thomas Jefferson was not a Christian, moron alias Sean Faircloth.

  • @TheYTViolation OOPS, never mind. I misheard. My bad!

  • hail the flying spaghetti monster haha

  • I want to have Dawkins baby..and I am a man. Respect Richard :)

  • Holy shit, how did I miss this story?! I live just south of Rochester.

  • see wat i did thar?

  • 1:39

Dawkins meks book saying religion is untrue

therfore, he is discriminating against Christians.

Bible says Christians are 100% undeniably right,

(therefore atheists must be 100% undeniably wrong)

= bible discriminates against atheist, BAN THE BIBLE.

  • @Kunggreen There would be discrimination if he were to entertain the possibility of chritianity being more than a myth without offering that to all the other myths of polytheism.

  • Foul

  • B( . )( . )B

  • @sunRsaturn He's a biologist. Scientists concentrate on one field each. Thats why creationists think they've won a debate when they ask Dawkins questions about the big bang or cosmology. It'd be like asking a bricklayer about carpentry.

  • @neil73 Oh, why of course. A bricklayer would have no idea wood comes from trees....lol. Add your lame excuse to his next book.

  • @sunRsaturn The annalogy might have been bad. A better one would be to ask 30 year computer hardware engineer at intel about his views on chemotherapy. Professor Dawkins is a subject matter expert in the field of Biology. If you want to know about genetic variation, vastigial organs, transitional forms, etc... ask Professor Dawkins. If you want to know about the origins of the universe, go talk to Professor Stephen Hawking.

  • @sunRsaturn Are you retarded?

  • @sunRsaturn - you are the most retarded moron Ive ever seen on youtube. - its quite extraordinary.

Are you legally retarded or do you just act this way?

how does it feel being unanymously hated on the internet?

Nobody agrees with what you have to say.

You are a social outcast on the internet

And "Internet" is just a word for "The rest of the world"

Stupid mormon, woops, I ment moron.

    idiot.

  • @OccamsKatana No the biggest retard on the internet is bill gates and his shitty bing search sewer. I hope he drowns in a bath tub with you and the rest of you "rest of the world" douche bags. Love to chat but duty calls!!! Now go fuck yourselves hoping I give a shit what you baboons think.

  • @CannotEscapeReality those protesters were really confusing. if they weren't atheists then what did they actually mean by those signs??

  • dawkins and his ilk are genius for coming up with excuses for sadism. and now this monster wants to teach more of it to children. It's ok to set your friend on fire because science says it's ok and dawkins is a genius.

  • @sunRsaturn Why do people like you even exist? You are such a parasite... An ignorant parasite. I'm sorry that we are grown up men and that we don't believe in your bronze age fairytale. But if you are too lazy to educate yourself, too close-minded to try and understant others, too stupid to see why religion is nonsense, then you are hopeless. A hopeless fool indeed.

  • @sunRsaturn Can you please direct me to the Science Book that explains the theory of lighting your friend on fire and it's positive effects? I'd like a copy or 2.

  • Comment removed

  • @Sanosukeafo A science book and what dawkins and you morons promote are not the same thing. Like reality tv is not reality. It's sadism. Reality is 67,000 mph around the Sun, for starters. What you bozos promote is the same crap, sadism. You use science to decieve and make excuses for your sick behavior. And that's been proven by science.

  • @sunRsaturn What kind of sick behavior you talking about? I'm a pretty stand up guy. I'm in the US military, I'm a war veteran, I've done humanitarian work in haiti after the earthquake, I donate to charities even though I don't make much money, I've never done drugs, or steal. I'm married (by law) and i've been faithful to my wife for over 7 years now.

So what kind of sick behavior we talking about here kid?

  • @Sanosukeafo Like this pile of propaganda and lies. dawkins and yawl are full of it, there junior. All the years of NASA and not one mass Religious protest against any launches. How many hospitals are named St. Josephs, St. Mary, St Jude, Mt Sinai.... so, you are bonkers.

  • @sunRsaturn First of all, you're barely able to make coherent sentences, and you call me bonkers?

Secondly, you didn't even bother responding to the question I proposed to you. Is this a dialog or are you just going to keep rambling nonsense based on zero evidence? (Wouldn't surprise me if you did)

Third, wtf do Hospitals named after religious locations have to do with anything in this conversation?

All the planets in our solar system are named after Roman Gods. What's your point?

  • @sunRsaturn Just read a few of your comments and it appears to me that you are an ignorant bonkers. Get a grip on reality. Also all arguments are not equal, many stupid arguments wont make a good one. Defamatory statements are not arguments. Seems like all of your argument are betraying your ignorance. You should try to educate yourself.

  • @sunRsaturn You are to far out for anyone to reel you back into reality.I bet your a 9/11 truther to huh?Stop drinking the cool aid its bad for you.

  • @DastardlyDereK What, your sick social delusion you call reality? You are totally bonkers and full of yourself. Sick piece of shit!

  • This is probably some afternoon show on Fox News. I can tell because it's not mired in bias and talking points, and journalists never express their own opinions or make preferential edits of interviews. I'm pleasantly surprised.

  • I'm actually very surprised out how impartial this piece comes across.

  • We seem to have progressed backwards, back to the days of the Scopes Trial in 1925, when all scientific, non-religious evidence was dismissed in court, as portrayed in the excellent 1960 movie Inherit The Wind.

  • They broke a contract? Isn't that bearing false witness? Sinners! Purge! Cleanse!

  • Fredom of speach - somewhere else.

  • Maybe they are scared, because the right wingers may actually understand a book written for children... :P

  • Genius....lmao! He got discredited by Bill O'Reilly!

  • @sunRsaturn According to whom?

  • @sunRsaturn Because Bill O'Reilly has decades of published, scrutinized theories and papers behind him, whereas Richard Dawkins merely palms his opinions off as facts, don't you hate the way that Richard Dawkins pretends he can read, yet he says Noah's flood isn't true?

    - Fact is, Tides go in, Tides go out, right?

  • @rmnairn you are sadists not athiest and everyone knows it. dawkins is a horror movie. all your crap is just mass excuses for sadism.

  • It's a country club and people are surprised it is discriminating? Who would he be giving a speech to besides a a few rich, old white guys? Maybe an elementary school would have been a better choice.

  • All publicity is good publicity!

  • AGH, why didn't I know he was gonna be there? Fox news in Michigan isn't as bad as other fox news stations.

  • "Since a contract, according to the" was broken."

According to them? According to your own report you idiots!

  • Wow, and this is on Fox news?! Amazing.

  • Dawkins disdains Bill O'Reilley yet constantly goes on his show to promote his books. Hmmm.

  • @Shazoolo There's no "hmm" about it. As you said already, it's to promote his book.

  • @Shazoolo I think that Dawkins probably goes on his show because he thinks the people who really NEED to learn more about science and have their mind-set broadened are the type of people who watch Bill O'Reilly.

Unlike religion, rational people realise preaching to the choir has a pretty limited effect on anyone outside....

  • @Shazoolo

Well - both get something out of it - Dawkins draws in big ratings, and Fox News has a wide viewership that Dawkins wants to tap.

Also, Bill O'Reilly probably thinks it elevates him up to Dawkins intellectual level to be seen debating with him (lol).

  • Everyone is an atheist in regards to other religions.

  • I drove 2 hours to meet up with fellow atheists to see a rare appearence by richard dawkins at eastern kentucky university. It was AMAZING. We spent all day there camped out chatting and reading the book and were in the front row.

I want to give a special shoutout to Mr. Faircloth. I had not heard of him before I went and the pre-lecture speech he gave prior to dawkins got HUGE applause. He is a great person to head the foundations efforts in America.

    The countryclub should be ashamed.

  • I'm not being childish when I say this; I'm being honest. I will celebrate the day Bill O'Reilly dies.

  • How did they hire him to speak not knowing his "philosophical views"?

  • Bill O'reilly is the dumbest person I've ever watched.

  • @superduperjew For me, that's Glenn Beck. Worse still though are the people who follow him.

  • hes not a christian, jew, or muslim (in that order), hes an an ATHEIST! .. im sick of being categorized. hows about "free-thinking, rational & critical thinker", yes, that sounds perfect

  • they should boycott the country club.

  • Run he gonna eat yo children!

  • I find it appalling that it's ok to discriminate against a person for their lack of beligious beliefs but we are expected to respect even the most ridiculous of religous beliefs (creationism, Mormons, Scientology). I had the pleasure of attending Richard Dawkins' lecture the next day at a local university. Best quote from him: "Science: it works, bitches!".

  • Wow, a good news story by Fox News. Where is this world coming to?

  • Dawkins should sue the Wingate into bankruptcy.

  • This video tells me that as an atheist I have still a lot to do to defend my rights.

  • I would definitely read this book.

  • Hang on, aren't those protesters pro-Dawkins? I get the feeling that clip has been shown out of context.

  • @neonatalpenguin They cancelled the Dawkins presentation because it attracted pro-Dawkins (a.k.a. anti-religion) protesters. The presence of money in substantial quantity demands an ambience of respect and decorum. To have money run a gauntlet of anti-Christ barbarians clamoring at the gates of status and privilege would be an insult to the sanctity of wealth. Dawkins should have hired the local library where people who believe in the power and glory of knowledge could be expected to frequent.

  • @PaulP567 I find it puzzling that Fox implied that they were anti-Dawkins protesters. Usually when Fox manipulates the truth, it's to suit an ignorant intolerant agenda.

  • @neonatalpenguin Yes. I think Fox News tosses in a piece of token truth now and again in an attempt to wrong-foot liberal opinion. No one is fooled by it. Fox is the propaganda arm of the Republican Right, no doubt about it. They used to have Christopher Hitchens on regularly, always careful though to add that their policy is to air as many different shades of opinion as possible - different from theirs in other words. It's tokenism.

  • Hey, it only took religion 500 years to accept gravity.

  • @Richardgwm It's only a theory though :P

  • @chinesemonkey19 - "Only" a Theory..? Do you have any idea what is required for something to be called a THEORY in its definitive meaning?

  • @1lumpen lol chill i was being sacastic (sorry hard to see sarcasm in text)

  • Guess Wyndgate doesnt want to offer Dawkins at a venue for people to listen and decide for themselves. Hell, even let him show up and if people have a beef with his book or beliefs, have it out with the man himself. pppfft...cowards....

  • 1:32 The way he said "He took the word of Bill O' Reilly" ... priceless

  • I have to say: Not bad for a FOX-News sequence.

  • People not thinking for them selfs!!!

Bunch of brain dead zombies following what ever TV says.

Read a damn book, start with children book like, lets say: The Magic of Reality??!!!

  • I wonder how Dawkins being an Atheist is a surprise.

He's pretty much know, even famous, as one of the most vocal atheists today.

  • @AGrandt This whole news piece is odd.

Nothing about his views changed between the scheduling of the interview and the interview itself.

All those protesters just heard about him the day of the interview? Hes even been on fox a few times before.

And a country club booked him without an idea of the controversy that follows him so were so unprepared for backlash that they cancelled him?

Then the reporter seems clueless about him asking the most pointless answer he could ask.

  • @waltermh111 There are quite a few very odd news pieces going around these last few days...

Supposedly competent people make rank amateur mistakes and decisions, missing the glaringly obvious in the process.

  • Words can't even describe how sorry I feel for anyone that listened to anything that Bill O'Reilly during that fucking ridiculous "interview." This fucking country disappoints me a lot these days.

  • Ha! This is a suburb of Detroit which is my hometown. This is a local Fox affiliate, they are not nearly as conservative or propagandistic (if that's a word) as the national network.

  • @mleonsmith Yeah, local Fox is usually ok.

  • An O'Reilly interview caused a change of heart? That's disappointing.

  • I wonder if the book has a section about the tides? Get Mr. O'Reilly up to speed.

  • @Pyrolonn "I wonder if the book has a section about the tides? Get Mr. O'Reilly up to speed."

    - good stuff, but don't call him Mr. that gives him respect he does not warrant...

  • 1:16

    where is the answer??

  • @bayfax7 The answer is that everybody are atheists when it comes to religions other than their own.

  • I love the contempt in his voice when he says "Bill O'Reilly."

  • I'm ashamed to work in that general area.

  • I just love hearing the indignity in Dawkins' voice regarding anyone getting their facts from Bill O'Rilley.

  • Sean Faircloth is so awesome! Every time I talk to him or hear him speak is great.

  • Richard needs to visit us on the other side of the river too...

  • I got that book for my kids! :D its good.

  • 2:29 smartest fox news reporter?

  • @InfectedInHD No, he works for RDF.

  • Why is there a strong correlation between religious belief and utter failure of grasping the legal arguments?

  • I just watched this on my local news two nights ago.

  • when Dawkins wins the lawsuit, he's buying us all dinner at the club

  • Comment removed

  • Who lost out in this episode? The people who were planning to attend the event at the country club. Some of them might be religious ¨believers¨who are curious about Dawkins´s ideas and the history of science. The club folks are so dense they didn't realize that they're publicizing Dawkins´s new book even more than did his TV appearance with mental midget BIll O´Reilly. And did they REALLY just find out Dawkins is an atheist? They must live under a golf cart. He's the atheist pope!

  • Who did they replace him with? Ray Comfort? Ben Stein? Ken Ham? Kent Hogan (oh yeah, forget, he's in prison)!

  • Keep pretending that religion isn't based on myths.

  • Why the FUCK did he expect anything other than this, in MICHIGAN? This is the midwest, people. If O'Reilly says it's bad, Michigan listens. To expect actual open-mindedness in Michigan, is like expecting beauty in Vogon poetry.

  • @ProjectFreeSelf Do you have the slightest inclining how predominately democratic Michigan is? Especially the Detroit Metro area where Rochester Hills is located near. Seriously, what the hell are you talking about?

  • @rpsmith014 The Democrats sing praises to ancient magic jewish zombies just as much as the Republicans do.

  • @ProjectFreeSelf Liberals tend to be much less religious than conservatives. But really, there's no reason to think that Michigan of all places would be close minded in general.

  • @rpsmith014 lol - did u mean to say inkling instead of inclining...? and "predominately democratic" ?! I thought the usa, all states, is a democracy. yr welcome for the corrections btw :)

  • @jeebersjumpincryst it's late.

  • @rpsmith014 fair enough. also occurred to me - yr prob meaning democrat majority, rather than repubs...? we have diff names over here...

  • @jeebersjumpincryst Yeah, I meant democrat, not democratic.

  • @rpsmith014 yeah, ok then. apologies for being a dick and nitpicking shit with a fellow atheist and secularist - in short with a friend and ally. **face flushes** ah well.... lol

  • @jeebersjumpincryst haha it's alright. My comment did portray me as somewhat retarded. I just realized that "ProjectFreeSelf" has yet to respond also. "Science is interesting, and if you disagree you can fuck off"-Richard Dawkins. To all the haters!

  • @rpsmith014 ha - thanks man. I'd just had a bad day and it was coming out sideways online. still no excuse for being a dick tho, lol. Yea, that vid where RD says that is a classic, esp the expression on his face when and just after it slips out! :)

  • Dawkins should stop playing innocent. Everyone knows that lumping theist's beliefs with other myths is to directly challenge those beliefs. He can't honestly expect that to go unnoticed. The Christians are right to be upset about this, no matter how much I want Dawkins to succeed at what he's doing. It's a none-too subtle attack on theism aimed directly at kids via the back door. The Christians are envious of this ability because they lack all subtlety.
