  • i hope he's gay ;). he's so cute

  • He seems like a nice person to know. He's so humble yet so talented. More artists should take after this man.

  • he's very innocent...

  • @LOLinFEVER Do you ever think it's misguided / misinformed people like you that toss around the word "faggot" like it's nothing that influence musicians and other people under the scrutiny of the public eye to keep information about their sexuality private? PREscription is not DEScription, dude. Actions and identity are two completely separate concepts.

  • @riangrimmer hey, mr.hotshot twinkie pusher. It's shitheads like you that make a big fuss about him being gay or not. You're all like oh look at the lyrics it says 'i love cock i love cock' but don't worry he's just talking about chickens SO HE'S NOT GAY DON'T SAY THAT BLABLA

tbh who gives a rats ass about it. That was me putting some trollbait so all of you (actual) faggots can roll over and see who wins the 'argument' on whether sufjan is gay or not

tbh who the fuck cares if he's gay or not

  • What a great man. He's so interesting to listen to and seems a nice man. I've been told I resemble him a few times and it's a honour, even though he's way better looking! :)

  • i dig the dude, great artist and uses his music innuendos to full advantage.

he is straight as lance bass.

  • He's softspoken because he's a Cancer. Cancer's are shy and emotional.

  • @ShareYourUnderwear shy and emotional is the synonym of faggot

who cares if he's gay anyway ¬¬

  • @LOLinFEVER He ISN'T homosexual.

  • @ShareYourUnderwear all i know

Michael Stipe...gay, he knew everyone was talking about it but he never said a thing

Sufjan Stevens,...gay, he knew everyone was talking about it but he never said a thing

also, the lyrics about his friend in Camp were also interesting..

but then again WHO GIVES A FUCK? GOOD MUSIC IS GOOD MUSIC. OH HE'S A CANCER MY FUCKING ASS, GAY OR NOT HE MAKES GOOD MUSIC SO STFU AND START LISTENING

  • @ShareYourUnderwear that's what your ex-boyfriend said

  • i would love to know who is the ONE person that dislikes this and why?!

  • What a mature spiritual man...

  • when asked what i want to be when i'm older, i will reply 'sufjan stevens' wife' haha!

  • Oboe for the win! :D

  • Being a part of the church I've met a lot of straight dudes like Sufjan. He's probably just a celebate christian man... i don't think he deflies himself with sex of any kinds because of his beliefs

  • Who gives two shits if he's gay?!?!?!!? my god people just shut up and enjoy seriously he's a genius and he makes great music..... Gay or Not!!!!! His sexuality is irrelevant how can so many people be so ignorant

  • I really do not think he is gay.

  • I have to use this word _he´s HANDSOME!!!! I want to marry him

  • My entire family lives right near Detroit in Grosse Pointe. It's great to hear that Sufjan grew up right where I spend a lot of my summers. Love the music

  • haha, if you guys think he's gay.. go look up his song 'super sexy woman'

  • That man should have just shut up and let him play. SHUT THE FUCK up. nobody cares, they just want to hear his new song!

  • It's called an Interview for a reason....

  • The only important thing is that he is beautiful and anyone who in any way blasphemes his name should be beaten to the ground.

  • I wish I could marry him!

  • he's so pretty (:

  • theres a video of his wedding.

  • Ok, all this hum about him being gay made me all curious...so I started reading into his songs a bit more- mind I only have Illinoise and Seven Swans, so the analysis is a bit incomplete. Refer to: The predatory Wasps..(his most overt song) John Wayne Gacy jr., The man of metropolis..Casimir Pulanski Day, A size too small, He woke me up again, To be alone with you. Most are rather subtle, but as a religious guy, i think it makes sense he'd be modest about it. Or he might be bi. Any Thoughts?

  • @voluptamors who gives a shit?

  • There's a pic of him and his family if you buy his xmas cd. you could prob just find it online if you googled it

  • He's so NOT-gay. He's just polite and well spoken. Heterosexual men can be polite and well spoken too, (it's true.)

  • He very well could be gay. I doubt we'll ever really know. He could be gay, as he is religious but not preachy, not married, etc., and his mannerisms support this thought. But I've known more than one straight person who seemed gay.

But don't go on about how he is gay or is straight.

He *is* a wonderful and inspirational musician.

  • How do his mannerisms support this??? Sheesh, you can't act in your own way without someone thinking you are gay anymore. Bummer.

  • Yeah, that is too bad for straight people being accused of being gay. Never mind that gay people that are having their identity thrown around as an insult.

    You suck.

  • @getfantastic

I don't think that is what Tcat means. it would be like calling someone chinese because they have similar features even if they have no relation...it's not an insult just a misinterpretation of observations-it is annoying being called something your not because you act that way. I personally don't like being labeled something I'm not no matter how good or bad it is. the insult is being called something your not it is not necessarily the label

  • well, Predatory Wasp of the Palisades does delve into his boyhood attraction to other boys. He is not proclaimed one or the other.

  • not necessarily

  • @gracekeown

How do you konw it????????he can be a gay christian.it exists

  • @littlerainworm550 no....no it doesnt lol

  • @gracekeown

He is so gay. SO TOTALLY GAY.

  • @kives1985

    You're a douchebag.

  • @Pawnbroker12

Oh yea, I am such a douchebag. SO TOTALLY A DOUCHEBAG.

  • @kives1985

    You bet.

  • @Pawnbroker12 You know who would appreciate that comeback? A gay man.

    I think Sufjan would approve.

  • @kives1985

hahaha that was actually pretty good. I've misjudged you.

  • @gracekeown How dare you speak that way about my husband. Of coarse he's gay. Sufjan and I are deeply in love...he just doesn't know it yet...

  • its not....a womens pov....hes talking about God.

  • Comment removed

  • For all you hopeful gay men- some of his songs are written from a woman's point of view. Doesn't mean he's gay. So dumb. Even if he was gay, probably none of you would "get with him".

    : |

  • LOL he's married, and very conservatively Christian; I don't think it will happen any time soon.

I can understand where you're coming from, though: I'm not even gay and I have to admit that he's pretty hot :)

  • he's not married

  • he is 100% married. With child silly.

  • Uh, no he's not.

  • yes he is

  • so humble and soft spoken im a dick and im not 1/8 as creative genius that he is

  • I dont understand how he can be so humble, when hes a complete genius. He's an amazing artist

  • genius are humble......

  • he wasn't born christian???/ what in the world depolorized you cant be born a christian

  • is he gay?

  • what the hell makes you think hes gay man come on?

  • Actually there are a lot of questions going around about his sexuality. There are no answers, just a lot of hopeful gay men.

  • but what makes him seem gay?

  • I don't know. Like I said, I think it's just coming from a lot of hopeful gay men. I mean, I'm rooting for him to be gay because a friend of mine and I are betting on who has better chances with him. :)

Also there are lyrics in certain songs that make it sound like he's singing to a genderless character or even another guy (such as The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades).

Either way it doesn't matter. People are just asking questions and they may never get an answer.

  • God, maybe?

  • Yeah, about God and Jesus. He's a very religious guy.

  • Quite a few of his lyrics have homosexual references, but nothing widely overt- he himself has stated that the Predatory Wasp...is based on a childhood experience, perhaps romanticized in song, but there's nothing really conclusive- he might be a poet, he might be bi, he might be gay, the only way we'll ever know if he publicly states his homosexuality (alluding to it in song obviously didn't work) and I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon =P

  • @voluptamors hes a strong christian so i'm pretty sure hes not gay. lol

  • I love Morning Becomes Eclectic. You get to hear some really awesome music!

  • Really informative interview. Thanks!

  • I definitely hear a lisp

    but it's cute

    :]]

I'm still waiting for that smile!!

  • 5:35

  • :D

    monumental

  • That'd be sweet if he did Oregon!

  • Yeah, I'm half greek as well, and once i cut off like 8 inches of hair, people started saying i look a lot like him. It's funny, Stevens isn't a greek name at all, but Sufjan Stevens and Cat Stevens both have it as a last name, and both are half greek.

  • They both have those hushed, gentle voices now. And their voices have that laid-back sound, and they both sound effortless when they sing

Now, Cat Stevens is Yusef Islam, when he became Muslim, he changed his name.

I'm really surprised that they aren't related.

  • for the record Sufjan is a Persian name.

  • It means something like 'Man with sword' or 'Man who comes with sword'...something like that. He says it at the start of the MTV interview.

  • does he have a slight lisp to anyway else? just listen to his "s" a little closer.

  • I don't hear it.

  • it's not consistent, but i definitely hear the lisp sometimes - even when he sings. it's endearing, in a way.

  • ha i heard it

  • @fallheartkiller Yeah, he does.

  • @fallheartkiller his S's are probably just a little different because of his adorable gap :)

  • I thought he was Armenian? Or maybe Georgian?

  • He's Greek/Lithuanian.

His name is Middle Eastern though, he said it was Arabic one time then he said it was Armenian so i'm not too sure. He always looked like he had touch of Lebanese in him I thought, you can totally see the Greek though :)

  • Sufjan is an Arabic name. I'm half Tunisian, and it's a pretty common name over there. I remember I thought it was so weird when I first heard about him. A Christian Boy with a Muslim name. Quite funny.

  • he wasn't born christian

  • then he's even more awesome.

  • anyone knows Sufjan's ancestry??

  • He looks Jewish.

  • he's part greek

  • The name Sufjan is Arabic or something like that (according to wikipedia...)

  • he said it was persian in another interview

  • I read in an interview that he's half Greek, half Lithuanian.

  • Man, he rocks.

  • If he isn't going to finish all 50 states he should at least finish the Midwest.

  • I think he's working on it. Right now, he's working on an album about birds and he just did some long like thirty minute piece for the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra about a bridge. But, I think that he is looking to finish the states. New York is supposed to be the last one... boo!

  • was he about to play john wayne gacy jr when they cut him off?

  • They didn't cut him off. This is a part of one large streaming video. Youtube sets a time limit for videos and I had to chop it up into several parts and I haven't gotten all of the parts up. Be patient though, I'll get it all up within the next week or so.

  • you're right, i meant when the video cut. i didn't mean to sound rude!

  • "Oragon, Rhoade Island and New Jersey" cool, you heard it here first

  • This is actually from 2005 so it's not really recent news although I think his plans are still the same. Sufjanfans [dot] com is a good place to find recent news.
