Jay Adams to die man, Is my inspiration, I'm from Argentina, I know he cause I see Lords Of Dogtown, and I love it the Old School the 1º time I see it, I have a little hope, someday I will meet Jay, is my wish
@ChicanoTattooArt Actually it was other teammate of theirs, Jim Muir, witch is brother to Cyco Mike the singer of the Suicidal Tendencies. Mike's band was kinda like the band of this group of skaters, and when they started to get big, the link between skateboarding and punk started to grow. They were pretty much the first skate-punk band. Oh and about the look, if you saw LODT you notice jay's style started to change when he started hanging with the punks.
@100degreeGRAFFITI I also think that Jat Adams brought the cholo/skater look to the skaters and ska punk style bands like suicidal tendacies, the other night I was in hollywood and I seen these guys with there hats flipped up and flannels but they had tight jeans on, one even have a gangster top hat on with a skateboard.
the song that begins at 6:11 until the ending scene... anyone has any idea of its ID? i am trying to find it and i can't, please post if you have any clue
i respect jay because unlike most of the skaters he just stood with passion.. everything else was nothing like skateboarding was to him.. skating was his life and he mad it possible for it to always stay the same and he loved it more than almost anything
Hey Jay its Tim Byrne i will tell everyone that u shit your pants playing handball lol please email @ timothybyrne45@yahoo.com amd i will send you my nimber i miss u bro.
One of the most talented skateboarders ever. His story is truly sad. He could have had the world. He wasn't one step ahead of everyone else. He was like 10 steps ahead of everyone else.
I love how they did this video, cause like everything else from Dog Town and the Z-Boys, its like they gave everything its own soul, ya know. I think thats one of the main reasons why i look up to the Z-boys.
jay i grew up in london in the 70's and you were def one of the guys i looked up too........and still do.....ur a fucking genius on a board man, fuckingn genius
I watch this every morning when I wake up and Every night before I sleep, Jay adams is a true skateboarding legend and this inspires me to keep riding. Modern skating is cool but I ride a Z flex and try and do old school tricks.
@cornflaker22 I think ST just plays local shows up in Santa Monica, daaaang i need to take a trip up there from San Diego and see them play lol Do they still play good shows ?
@Ralphdawgg49 Old Man by Neil Young. Appropriate song choice for this segment. Stacy Peralta is a master at using great songs in his docs. Watch Riding Giants.
@prettyboyalldayadigg because they werent getting treted like they wanted to by there sponsorship so peralta left to g and s and alva skated for this rich guy all jay wanted to do is get money for his mom but soon alva and peralta got there own company
the most beautiful piece of film of all time ! the edit ..the music..the content and the execution are flawless ..this aint about skating! it is about LIFE!!! this should be in the MOMA s film collection! the ending is absolutely BRILLIANT!
I like Jay Adams the best out of him Peralta and TA. Even in Lords of Dogtown, you could tell Stacy portrayed him as the kid who liked to have fun and do crazy, new tricks. He was the first one to get over the light in the pool, the first to go for an invert, and the first to gap 2 vertical ramps. TA and Stacy went off to stardom and Jay could have too, but he viewed skating as an art and not a job. He's an unsung hero.
When they say; "jay could have had it all." their talking about how jay could have used his experience and nollege to make money like Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk is the person who created High Manuvers. Thats why Hawk was so popular and he used it to make money, but he also had fun with it and enjoying life out of it as well. Jay Adams could have done the same thing because he was the one who created "Free-Skating and the "Pool Life." but he didnt take adavantage of it like Hawk. Legends Never Die. Jay
@osunason Actually thats not totally right. What they ment with that phrase is that even without experience and knowledge, he was still better than alva and peralta. Thats called natural talent, and if you have this kind of thing you dont need anything else, you just do what you always do, and that is what he did. In your eyes and in the eyes of almost every single person, jay failed; But the truth is that he had won more than any of us could ever dream of, he lived against rules of society.
To me I dont think Jay failed. Never in my statement i said he failed. I just know that Jay could of used his natural talent to become like Alva and Peralta and make his own company. I understand he was agianst the "Society" but he also had regrets like he mentioned in the video. But who knows what his regrets were. All i know is jay stayed true to himself. But i don't know J-adams so i cant speak on his behalf. He's a great man who defined free skating.
I have a friend just like Jay Adams, he's better than anyone else I've seen play guitar but he parties and ddoes drugs way too much and came from a bad homelife. My friend should've had it all too because he's a better musician than anyone else I've0 seen play, but he just couldn't get his life together.
I think Jay was quite nervous during this interview, and he didn't really know what to say. And...he's talking to Stacy, the most successful (bigtime!) of the crew. He knows what he missed out on, on the other hand... he was also the purist, the most natural, the most artistic. Bottom line...he was the best skater in the world back in the day..... and he didn't even know it. Sudden and unexpected fame and fortune is overwhelming no matter your age or profession.
Im the same age as Jay. I skated like Jay, ok not near as good as Jay. I went down a different road though. I never did drugs. Drugs are stupid. I think Jay would agree
Go be gay somewhere else. Chicano isnt a style. Jay was punk rock.Thats a style. Not chicano. Read some literature before you make acusations dumbfuck. And for the record. All i skate is bowls,Vert, and pools so blow it out your ass fag.
@HaydenB1992 Jay Definately WASN'T Punk rock. he listens to hard rock theres an interview of him talking about it,you wan't punk rock go watch Duane peters or Steve olson.
@MartyFroze I just meant kinda like his attitude of not giving a fuck and destructive. He was a hardcore rocker but his attitude seemed punk to me.Duane Peters rips though. Good Call
@HaydenB1992 There is a thing called Chicano Lifestyle but its not a style itself, it means mexican american but as of now days Chicano is very popular all around the world. Trust me I know.
Jay Adams and all teh zboys sold teh outlaw mexican american style to white america. It is derived almost completely from the cholo -the ripped up dickies/skate designs and tshirts are all 100% mexican american rip offs
@vicosal1 Yea I agree on that, with the dickies and flannels, its still in the white america with tattoo artist. If you ever watch those reality shows, you see those tattoo artist, punk rock band members dressing with old school cholo clothing.
Jay Adams isn't an idiot. He should be respected because he had a hard life and inspired people to become apart of the skateboarding industry. -3 ya jay
Look it guys Chicanos have every reason to be pissed when watching this video. The whole style of Zephyr and Modern skateboarding was stolen from chicano street gangs. These gangs had style and flare and didnt give a shit about no white cop or white youth. But white kids looked up to the well pressed dressed to the nines-tattooed and clean gangster that Mexicans were. You just dont get to steal our artwork.
The style of skateboarders is what I meant. Even the tattoo designs worn by all these kids and the prints on the shirts and boards....these are all biten off teh rebellious street style of mexican youths in Los Angelos. Ed HArdy/Zephyr/Zumiez/Vans all are throwbacks to what the cholo wore and wears today
@MartyFroze ur telling me the dudes style at 4:54 isn't Mexican?? the plaid shirt buttoned all the way to the top. that some straight outta LA chicano stuff
@0UTLAW92 straight up, you retarded. you have no idea what i was talking about so shut up. i dont even wanna waste my time arguing with someone who has videos of soulja boy favorited
@DOLPsc haha ur funny gota give u that with that whole souljaboy remark , but now i know u have no life going into my profile checking me out what a loser! im done with you douche.
@DOLPsc WHO FUCKING CARES YOU IGNORANT FUCK. ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT RUIN THE WORLD. WORRYING ABOUT FASHION AND GOSSIP MORE THAN THE ART AND ESSENCE. APPRECIATE STYLE AND DIFFERENT CULTURES DIPSHIT
@HaydenB1992 how the fuck am i ignorant? your the one trying to start shit. i was pointing out his style cuz ppl dont think its Chicano when it clearly is. they even say it. you wanna talk culture? i am Chicano! this is my style!
@DOLPsc Your an idiot because its not about the clothes you wear. are you a woman. last time i checked skating was about how your road a board. not about the clothes you wear doing it. The dude could rock bell bottoms and a flower button up for all i care. if he rips he rips. who cares what they wear. you making a deal out of it is the reason skateboarding is where it is today. completely fucked
@HaydenB1992 I'm not even talking about clothes. Chicano its self is a style. its a mental attitude thing and that's what these guys have. They even admit it on their documentary. your 18.... you don't know about real skate culture! you have prob never even skated an empty pool. so shut the fuck up!
@vicosal1Chicano punk is a branch of Chicano rock. Examples of the genre include music by the bands The Zeros, Los Illegals, The Brat, The Plugz, Manic Hispanic, Los Crudos, The Casualties, and the Cruzados; these bands emerged from the California punk scene. Some music historians argue that Chicanos of Los Angeles in the late 1970s might have independently co-founded punk rock
@vicosal1 along with the already-acknowledged founders from British-European sources when introduced to the US in major cities.[citation needed] The rock band ? Mark and the Mysterians, which was composed primarily of Mexican American musicians, was the first band to be described as punk rock. The term was reportedly coined in 1971 by rock critic Dave Marsh in a review of their show for Creem magazine.
@sketchygrandma I knew a person who couldn't say an entire sense without interjecting that phase. "hey I went to the grocery store, you know what I mean, and there was this guy, a guy, you know what I mean, and he said to me, you know what I mean, are there any other stores, you know what I mean, in town, like in this town, you know what I mean."
This whole montage made me feel like Jay Adams was dead. He's still alive but his career never got a chance to flourish. It's such a tragic story but one of these guys said it best, "You get one chance at doing this. And if you miss it, you don't get it again." Those words resonated with me. This is so true for everything in life. You get one chance to marry your passion and a good living. It's all so fleeting. Bless you Jay. May you find happiness and may your regrets subside.
@thesocalwholesaler he didn't want to get bought out though. He did it because he loved it, and he loved the rouge nature of it. He didn't want to make loads of money off it. Maybe he wishes he did sell out back then because it may have helped stay off drugs and better his life. But I think his reasoning back then for not doing it made it a perfect choice.
I kind of cry it brings back memories

Jay Adams and all teh zboys sold teh outlaw mexican american style to white america. It is derived almost completely from the cholo -the ripped up dickies/skate designs and tshirts are all 100% mexican american rip offs
vicosal1 1 year ago
@vicosal1 Yea I agree on that, with the dickies and flannels, its still in the white america with tattoo artist. If you ever watch those reality shows, you see those tattoo artist, punk rock band members dressing with old school cholo clothing.

This dude is amazing. My favorite skateboarder of all time, I can safely say.
Haters can go fuck themselves. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You just dont get to steal our artwork.
vicosal1 1 year ago
@vicosal1 Not really.Skateboarding came from surfing which all the Zboys did.
MartyFroze 1 year ago
@MartyFroze

@vicosal1 oh gotcha gotcha, yeah i agree,TA was Mexican so its highly probable

DOLPsc 11 months ago
@DOLPsc Your an idiot because its not about the clothes you wear. are you a woman. last time i checked skating was about how your road a board. not about the clothes you wear doing it. The dude could rock bell bottoms and a flower button up for all i care. if he rips he rips. who cares what they wear. you making a deal out of it is the reason skateboarding is where it is today. completely fucked
HaydenB1992 11 months ago

Some music historians argue that Chicanos of Los Angeles in the late 1970s might have independently co-founded punk rock
mxkidd38 3 months ago

May you find happiness and may your regrets subside.

whats tragic about someone who chose to do drugs and drink instead of becoming succesfull
it happens everyday
not everyone gives a shit about materialism and money and gay shit like that
maybe people like you do
trollingdouche 9 months ago
@thesocalwholesaler yeah man, talking about him like he's a ghost. mildly insulting.
IETCHX69 9 months ago
@thesocalwholesaler he didn't want to get bought out though. He did it because he loved it, and he loved the rouge nature of it. He didn't want to make loads of money off it. Maybe he wishes he did sell out back then because it may have helped stay off drugs and better his life. But I think his reasoning back then for not doing it made it a perfect choice.
