I do downhill at reasonable speeds but I don't have footage edited of that.. since when we go downhill riding I usually go with only one or two friends with me and we like riding more than filming.
i'm trying to decide between this, the urban assault and the evo, any sugestions? i like the kicktail on the urban assault, but is it stable down hills? i have never riden one, my friend has an evo, and it's awesome, are the oters similar? thanks
But it's real easy to push since its that low to the ground. And if you have good bearings in the wheels and maintain them well this board rolls like a dream.
If you want to roll longer you can also equip less wide wheels than I do that way you have less friction. The DH race works really well with ABEC11 flywheels and with Krypto classics 80 or 85mm.
My favorite: keep going downhill, never push again
I had no idea that the DH Race could turn that well... I mean, I have been trying to decide between this or the EVO and was leaning towards the EVO because of the added agility but this board does seem to be able to turn pretty well or atleast as good as my old pool board with old tracker trucks.
The board does handle nice but do note that the runs in this video aren't all that fast. and I have really fat, wide, soft wheels equipped to minimise chance of slide.
Im ordering a Landyachtz dh race with black randal 11 180 trucks and danos wheels of daddies board shop on saturday. what do you think of that set up? good or bad help.
Those wheels... what size are they? if its the 70mm i'd go for larger otherwise you'll scrape the bottom of the board in turns. I use 75mm 3DM Avila's and a half inch riser between trucks and board. I wouldn't go smaller than that.
When the board started sales some years back the Flywheels where the wheels of choice for most riders. You made and excellent choice. Enjoy your ride. Glad to have been of assistance in your decision.
Can't really judge the Evo I've only tried it a few times. I'm very satisfied with this DH Race but when you want to carve more the evo turns better because of the other angles the trucks are set. Find somebody near you that has these boards and try them back to back and then decide. Either way you're buying a good board. :) keep riding.
I was thinking about getting the DH race also. Do you think it's good? I'm worried about turning without sliding for aroundtown, would it scratch the bottom?
And what wheels and trucks do you have? I was probably going to stick with my Randall RII 180s
For what you want to use it for it will be a good board. I ride it with a half inch flat riser between board and trucks and have the Randal RII 180's. And to get minimal sliding I opted for the widest and softest things available. the 3DM Avila's 72a duro they're only 75mm diameter but with that half inch riser you'll clear the ground without too much trouble. You shouldn't get too bothered when you do scrape the ground now and then, it does happen but not so you'll have bad bails because of it.
I'm allowed to do as I please with whatever board I buy, thank you. I don't need people telling me what to do. I ride for fun not to please you or anyone else I don't force you to watch my vids or leave stupid remarks on it for that matter.
Look no further. The DH race is ideal for the use you want from it. That is exactly the use I have from it. Moderate downhill (allthough extreme downhill is possible) and for transportation you can't go wrong with a lowered deck, you'll push it easier and for longer distances because of that.
This is a little late, but to give you another perspective, I own the Chinook, and I can say that it is awesome. It is really stable, and I was impressed with how well it turns. It's not a carver, but it still turns really well to be so stable. To get it even more stable, flip the hangars on the trucks (I have black Bear 852's- awesome trucks). Then it's low to the ground, and its shape (lower in the front than the back) forces you over your front trucks, making everything just so much better.
I'd go for the DH Race. I've ridden dropthrough decks and I prefer the DH Race. a dropthru deck doesnt come as low as this either. It's a great downhiller but when pushing it flatland its dead easy since it's that low. I'm not a hardcore dowhill rider either but this board performs well on any type of riding.
Since the board is rockhard with no flex to speak of, every move you make gets translated to a response from the board. So the board actually turns very fast. but also due to the fact that it doesn't flex it slides quite easy. Turning while not sliding is hard, but get control over sliding and this board is great. I'm not fond of sliding (can't control it well) So I opted for some very wide, soft wheels and with that its a great board in every style of riding. And don't tighten trucks too much.
hey man nice!! your not super amazing yet but you look like your having a blast keep practicing and youll get better i dont mean to be rude but when you grab rail dont grab between your legs grab just behind your backleg you will have much better contol of your slides this way keep it up and again nice video
Thanks for the tip I'll give that a try on future sessions.
I don't skate to show off my skill though, I know I'm not that good.
The main thing I skate for and post clips is Fun. I like editing movies so I post them here for accessability to the viewers. If my video's are entertaining and fun to watch I have achieved my goal. Thanks for cool comment
cool man looks like your havin fun. you're pretty good as well, the main thing i notice, is when you're tucking. your back leg, try to get your butt down lower, and put your back knee right behind your front calf, so your legs are only 1 leg wide.
Stinkbug grabbing heu? Try grabbing your board behind your leg that stands on the back of your board. If you havent changed that bad habbit of grabbing between your legs yet. You'll be able to drift this way pushing tour leg out and control your direction & breaking.
To me these are the best wheels i've put on this board yet. The extra width makes the board easier to control and less sensitive to sliding when pulling through turns.
ur not a bad rider at all....i have a the same board im about the same style in riding as u....im only 15..but i hang with alot! of pros....like i know the guy who designed that board...look up slow motion...its a lonboarding vid...he made...
I'm thinking about getting a DH race. You have randal 180s, do you have risers and if so what thickness, also do you haver get wheel bite, or have the board ground out when making a sharp turn?
I ride Randal 180's and a half inch riser. combined with 75mm diameter wheels I never touch ground. when using a thinner riser you may need to get wheels of over 80mm.
i ride the same set up pretty much but i got no risers...and i got 83mm flywheels...and i touch the ground when going over liek speeedbumps....but when turnin i dont
If you have a Landyachtz, might as well use it to its full ability and go DOWNHIll, especially if u reduced chance of slide.

does this board maintain it's speed well? That is, does it take less pushing to keep the board going?

I can't pumpcarve it if that's what you mean.
For pumpcarve you'll need a flexier board.
But it's real easy to push since its that low to the ground. And if you have good bearings in the wheels and maintain them well this board rolls like a dream.

When I got the board there was no Evo yet. My next Landy will most likely be an evo too.
The dropped boards from Landyachtz then were the DH race, the Urban assault and the drop carve
