  • Hi, can anyone help me? I make movies out of fun and I really enjoy it. I am 12 years old. I have one problem...

On the Mac, there is a special effect where there is a background and you can load yourself onto it which I think is really cool.

I need it for one of my scenes for my movie.

My laptop is a Windows and I don't know how to download that mac effect onto my windows through the internet. Can someone help me?! Help! Any hints or tips or programmes that isn't difficult would help a lot!!!!

    Hank

  • hi i like your videos, you should become a youtube partner :)

  • very nice

  • Can you do this in iMovie?

  • You sound like that guy who draws. Did you draw that spyder?

  • thanks for the toutorial

  • lol

  • can you show us how you create the set for your in front of camera talking shots witht he black background and only the foreground lit

  • @rcboatdriver1234 already done it - see my video titled: How to Film With a BlackScreen

  • @rickvanman Thanks you.

  • Lol

  • Great Videos and great info.. Thank you so much for creating these.. you're awsome!1

  • I need one of those for Warhammer

  • can you use GIMP instead of Adobe Premier Elements.

  • what colour should the green-screen be?

  • @LEGOSandNFSW GREEN screen or Blue

  • nice

lol make a howto video on how to download the program

  • nice

  • I have a fijifilm FinePix JV

  • COOL

  • you are the man i wish i could be god bless you

  • HAHAHA floating head 0:13

  • @TheKwibuz lol that's what i was thinking.

  • This is just a general response to all your videos to say thanks. They are really clear and easy to follow but also so inspiring - it just makes me want to experiment and create for myself. It is so easy to get hooked into thinking we need expensive technology to do everything. As a retired school teacher who taught Technology (which includes resistant materials, electronics, etc) I just love this make do and mend, backswoodman approach that puts creative video making within everyone's reach.

  • what camera do you have and do you think it is possible to do this is with i movie

  • Comment removed

  • what video editing software do you use?

  • @roda2007 Adobe Premiere elements

  • @rickvanman can you tell whats the different between Premiere elements and Premiere Pro?? i got the premiere pro but it looks really different w/ the elements one and its got different names for the effects too, oh and i just saw your tutorial video about cloning effects, can i do that cloning effects w/ premiere pro? if yes what effects should i use? thanks before, and your tutorial is amazing bytheway

  • @cureboyz elements is easier to use, pro has lots of extra features that you'll unlikely use - and costs loads more. yes you should be able to do cloning with pro - as per the video.

  • @rickvanman thanks much man,, i just couldn't figure out why i can't have the 4 side garbridge cropping effect from Premiere elements in Premiere pro,, is there any effect equal/similar to that?? thanks again :)

  • @rickvanman can you do this with adobe after affects to?

  • @MorganCat56 yes, definately

  • Do you have to have photo shop for this to work?

  • PNGs work

  • what software do you use

  • Wow! Thanks for replying! Yeah, I kind of figured that it would be really difficult. I'm going to keep this in mind for future videos for myself though, because I would really love to do this technique, but you're right...it sounds pretty complex. Thank you so much for replying and explaining it out though! It should give me some good ideas to keep in mind for later! You're great! Thanks again!

  • Hey i dont have a greenscreen. could u just use a white bedsheet or something like that? im sorry im not a computer expert :S

  • @cas123321 yes, anything green or blue that has a nice even colour and is not shiny or reflective.

  • @rickvanman ok thanks. i subscribed btw

  • Great!!! YOU ARE very GREAT my friend! thank you very much!

  • Oh and I subscribed! I was wondering if maybe you could explain or if you have the time, could you make a tutorial on how to edit yourself into a dollhouse. I haven't found ANY other tutorials on this subject anywhere on the internet, if you don't have the time to do a video tutorial, I understand....but maybe explain it a bit? Thank you!

  • @DarciRockinOut What you are proposing is very complex. The same principals as shown in this video would apply, but you would need a really big greenscreen setup to walk around, or you could walk on the spot and then animate the greenscreen footage to make it look like you are moving along. For chairs, cover a similar shaped chair in greenscreen and sit on it - then super impose the greenscreen footage over the dolls chair.

  • THANK YOU! You are the only person that has a tutorial on this that actually helped me! I was wondering though, I wanted to use this effect and I've been scouring the internet for a tutorial on how to place yourself into a dollhouse and make it look like you're really walking through it and sitting on the furniture & using the things inside. I wanted to do a few shots looking thru the window etc...How would I go about doing this? I hope you see this & answer, thanks!

  • Ran into a problem - got a great miniature picture - cutting it up into 2 pieces... cut the forground part out...saved the 2 files as .psd files - BUT here's my problem - the foreground file is not "transparent" - in other words when I stack them up in Sony Vegas 9.0 HD editing software, the forground picture is cut out but has WHITE in the areas that should be "blank/transparent" ... I'm using GIMP 2.6 (free off net). can you tell me how to get the "transparency" to work? thanks!! :)

  • @firehawk46064 I'm not sure how to do that in Gimp (I use photoshop) but hopefully someone reading this will be able to help

  • @rickvanman to do transparent in gimp make back round white then go to the fuzzy select tool click on the white layer then go to go to layers and tranparentys and click color to alpha be sure to go to the lighting effects so it wont have a white layer out line around it hope that helps

  • @firehawk46064 hello my fellow hawk ! salute comrad

  • @firehawk46064

You sure you saved them as psd's?

As far as I know, you need to save them as PNG files, since psd is a photoshop project file.

  • @Owminator use anything that can save them as a layer with an invisible background that can be read by by the editing software. I believe PNG files can also be used to do this.

  • Sweeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the vid. You know, for someone that's just starting to do videos (like me) and know about chroma key and all the other neat effects you can achieve nowadays right at home BUT never really tried it yet, it's quite a revelation to see a video like yours. You should see my "so THAT'S how he did it; I can do that TOO!" face. Thanks again. Oh, yeah; I subscribed!

  • Rick you are funy :-D

Best wishes and greetz from Spain

  • congrats!! very good video!!

between AE cs4 and PP cs4 which software is easier to do shrinking in your opinion?

  • How does adobe premiere elements 3.0 compare to adope after effects cs4

  • @craigcreationz after effects is waaay better but much more expensive

  • @craigcreationz Adobe Premiere is for Video editing, After effects is for visual effects! and other

  • @craigcreationz they are actually 2 different things-

Premiere is a NLE or non linear editor...basically like Sony Vegas here or any other video editing program. After effects is not used to edit videos like this, but rather to create effects and adjust footage, rather than put it together. They are both adobe and meant to work together as part of one package

  • Exactly what i was looking for. I knew the method and "how to" but just Wanted to see it With snow.

  • I didn't know how to shrink myself to now. In sony vegas I used event pan/crop and I shrink me to small size, thanks Rick :)

  • LOL i wish i new as much as you LOL thanks any ways

  • what editing software did you use

  • @arsh545 Adobe premiere elements 3.0

  • i use imovie can u make a video on that

  • what editing software did you use for this video? :)

  • adobe premiere elements 3.0

  • Great Tutorial Rick ! You can do this with any still photo. You could place yourself at the foot of the Egyptian pyramids and make it appear as though you were really there.

  • Great video Rick, useful for a lot of people on YouTube - but more tags needed for views!

  • PNG should work (It allows transparent backgrounds) not sure if all editing software will work with it, but thats the same with PSD. Great tutorial again, hope to see many more in 2010. Happy new year.

  • @tylerfrankling software works with png my bug is a png file

  • ♥

  • ツ

  • Hi Rick,

Happy New Year from the U.S. . I've seen this done many times before, but your results were much better. Thanks for posting the How to video. I've enjoyed and learned from many of your other videos as well. Thanks and take care friend.

  • Thanks - glad you liked :o) Happy new year!

  • im glad that i found the popularity of the youtubers from the UK that make films have grown & i think u are the best.

    happy new year 2 u & every 1 else

  • You're very genuine, and thank you for posting this tutorial.

    Peace and love.

  • Man, you should have your own TV show!

I've always found your tips useful, if I ever have any success with my film making I'll have to send you royalties, haha!

  • great idea.

  • Cool! ... I love the way you share your ideas on video making :)

  • Absolutely fabulous! Now what video soft ware do you use?

  • Really fantastic insight into video processing and beautifully explained for the uninitiated like me ;-)

Thanks for posting and Happy New Year!

  • You look like a floating head at the beginning. lol

  • Thank You for showing how it's done! Great job 5/5 stars and wish you a Happy Holiday and Cheers For The New Year!

  • lol you are so cool man, keep the vids coming!

  • It looks like you also fade the green screen into blue or was that just an effect of demonstration?

  • Its just a by-product of adding the "greenscreen filter" as well as the chromakey filter.

  • Great video, Rick,

I saw the Christmas message and it was cool ツ

    Happy New Year too !!

  • this is really kool. what editing software do u use? i use windows movie maker and i cnt shrink the video. xx

  • Thanks :o) I use premiere elements. WMM is great to get you started, but you can't do much special FX with it.

  • Brilliantly done and explained.

The lighting was also good as you seemed to match the liliput lane model lighting as well.

  • Thanks :o)

  • That technique would be great for a 'mini' film haha

  • LOL! Mark, your jokes are nearly as lame as mine :o)

  • Hi Rick, that was quiet interesting...nice jacket by the way. Is it Adobe Premiere Elements you've used ?

    Joe

  • Hi Joe, yep - thats the one. If you want a jacket like that, you have to go back in time to the 80's! LOL!

  • where did you get the miniture set

  • My Mum Collects them. - try eBay

  • Thanks Rick! This is a great video tutorial, I will have to try it myself in the future :)

  • glad you found it useful :o)

  • i'd like to make a little clip, to show, that this was hekpfull (':

but i have no inspiration, what should i say? or what should it be about?

  • how about a person who shrinks to a tiny size?

  • what editing software do you have

  • premiere elements 3.0

  • Fantastic stuff Rick - Great creativity right there.

  • cheers Toby :o)

  • Great Tutorial! I've Wanted To Do This For A While,And It's Very Useful For My Doctor Who Series I'm Making. Thanks!

  • sounds intreaguing! glad it was useful!

  • Hi there, I just want to react to the PNG thing. You say you've never worked with it, well I guess all you need to know is it's a lossless format that has an alpha channel for embedding transparency.

However as long as you stick with Adobe software, working with PSD files still has the advantage of giving you control over the different layers when in Premiere.

  • thanks for the feedback :o)

  • thanks - I'll have to have a play with them some time

  • Great idea! I like it...

  • Really cool man, thanks a lot.

  • Thank you Rick! It may be basic to you but for those of us who have only dabbled a bit with green screen it was quite an insight. For example, I would have never considered the foreground layer. Another great video Rick. I'm glad I asked.

  • Thanks for the vote of confidence Paul :o)

    Happy to help as always.

  • Sweet tutorial man =)

  • great video! you sure can explain things =]

  • It's mostly bluffing :o)

  • Thats amazing. I might do it with an old toy I've got, my Batman castle! 5 well earned stars Rick! 5*'s!

  • go for it - it'll be fun :)

  • dag nab it marry me...lol

  • LoL! You're easily pleased :o)

  • actually i am not...but you do please me...lol. well, at least you did not flat out say 'no way lady'....can i take that as a maybe? :) tee hee

  • Brilliant

  • thants rick, i know i am one of the people who asked you about this and this helped alot. Im going to try and do this and post as a video responce or something after i get the stuff, it might be a while but ill try and do it. Again thatnks alot helped me.

  • no probs, glad to help :o)

  • hey thats cool did you use after effects?

  • No, just mys standard editor (premiere elements)

  • Great tutorial Nick, well done mate.

  • Very straight forward, nothing fancy! Bloody hell it was brilliant!

  • LoL! Thanks :o)

  • that's awesome! Definitely gotta try this!

  • What a neat idea!! You kind of have that Max Headroom thing going on.

  • 5:05 - Floating Head

    LoL

  • Your lights looking bright in your eyes. Haha

  • I pretty much knew the basics on how to do this effect, but you spelled it out quite nicely! I'm going to have to do a video like this sometime...

*adds it to his ever-growing list of future videos*

    Thanks Rick!!

    Patrick

  • Always happy to help :o)

  • Are they sold as ornaments or models?

  • ornaments

  • Ahh handy props, I'll look out for those.

  • PS they are desperately in need of a dinosaur :-)

  • LoL!

  • Did you actually buy photoshop or do you have some sort of deal with a company because £500 is alot!

  • I'd never pay that kind of cash for a bit of software. I use Photoshop Elements - it's like the main program only less complicated and costs about £30

  • amazing. i will try that

  • btw, this was awesome! (':
