Hi, can anyone help me? I make movies out of fun and I really enjoy it. I am 12 years old. I have one problem...
On the Mac, there is a special effect where there is a background and you can load yourself onto it which I think is really cool.
I need it for one of my scenes for my movie.
My laptop is a Windows and I don't know how to download that mac effect onto my windows through the internet. Can someone help me?! Help! Any hints or tips or programmes that isn't difficult would help a lot!!!!

Thanks Rich I am finally getting in digital video. I have elements and priemre 8. And i guess its time. All i can do is learn what does and doesn't work.
This is just a general response to all your videos to say thanks. They are really clear and easy to follow but also so inspiring - it just makes me want to experiment and create for myself. It is so easy to get hooked into thinking we need expensive technology to do everything. As a retired school teacher who taught Technology (which includes resistant materials, electronics, etc) I just love this make do and mend, backswoodman approach that puts creative video making within everyone's reach.
@rickvanman can you tell whats the different between Premiere elements and Premiere Pro?? i got the premiere pro but it looks really different w/ the elements one and its got different names for the effects too, oh and i just saw your tutorial video about cloning effects, can i do that cloning effects w/ premiere pro? if yes what effects should i use? thanks before, and your tutorial is amazing bytheway
@cureboyz elements is easier to use, pro has lots of extra features that you'll unlikely use - and costs loads more. yes you should be able to do cloning with pro - as per the video.
@rickvanman thanks much man,, i just couldn't figure out why i can't have the 4 side garbridge cropping effect from Premiere elements in Premiere pro,, is there any effect equal/similar to that?? thanks again :)
Wow! Thanks for replying! Yeah, I kind of figured that it would be really difficult. I'm going to keep this in mind for future videos for myself though, because I would really love to do this technique, but you're right...it sounds pretty complex. Thank you so much for replying and explaining it out though! It should give me some good ideas to keep in mind for later! You're great! Thanks again!
Oh and I subscribed! I was wondering if maybe you could explain or if you have the time, could you make a tutorial on how to edit yourself into a dollhouse. I haven't found ANY other tutorials on this subject anywhere on the internet, if you don't have the time to do a video tutorial, I understand....but maybe explain it a bit? Thank you!
@DarciRockinOut What you are proposing is very complex. The same principals as shown in this video would apply, but you would need a really big greenscreen setup to walk around, or you could walk on the spot and then animate the greenscreen footage to make it look like you are moving along. For chairs, cover a similar shaped chair in greenscreen and sit on it - then super impose the greenscreen footage over the dolls chair.
THANK YOU! You are the only person that has a tutorial on this that actually helped me! I was wondering though, I wanted to use this effect and I've been scouring the internet for a tutorial on how to place yourself into a dollhouse and make it look like you're really walking through it and sitting on the furniture & using the things inside. I wanted to do a few shots looking thru the window etc...How would I go about doing this? I hope you see this & answer, thanks!
Ran into a problem - got a great miniature picture - cutting it up into 2 pieces... cut the forground part out...saved the 2 files as .psd files - BUT here's my problem - the foreground file is not "transparent" - in other words when I stack them up in Sony Vegas 9.0 HD editing software, the forground picture is cut out but has WHITE in the areas that should be "blank/transparent" ... I'm using GIMP 2.6 (free off net). can you tell me how to get the "transparency" to work? thanks!! :)
@rickvanman to do transparent in gimp make back round white then go to the fuzzy select tool click on the white layer then go to go to layers and tranparentys and click color to alpha be sure to go to the lighting effects so it wont have a white layer out line around it hope that helps
@Owminator use anything that can save them as a layer with an invisible background that can be read by by the editing software. I believe PNG files can also be used to do this.
Thanks for the vid. You know, for someone that's just starting to do videos (like me) and know about chroma key and all the other neat effects you can achieve nowadays right at home BUT never really tried it yet, it's quite a revelation to see a video like yours. You should see my "so THAT'S how he did it; I can do that TOO!" face. Thanks again. Oh, yeah; I subscribed!
Premiere is a NLE or non linear editor...basically like Sony Vegas here or any other video editing program. After effects is not used to edit videos like this, but rather to create effects and adjust footage, rather than put it together. They are both adobe and meant to work together as part of one package
Great Tutorial Rick ! You can do this with any still photo. You could place yourself at the foot of the Egyptian pyramids and make it appear as though you were really there.
PNG should work (It allows transparent backgrounds) not sure if all editing software will work with it, but thats the same with PSD. Great tutorial again, hope to see many more in 2010. Happy new year.
Happy New Year from the U.S. . I've seen this done many times before, but your results were much better. Thanks for posting the How to video. I've enjoyed and learned from many of your other videos as well. Thanks and take care friend.
Hi there, I just want to react to the PNG thing. You say you've never worked with it, well I guess all you need to know is it's a lossless format that has an alpha channel for embedding transparency.
However as long as you stick with Adobe software, working with PSD files still has the advantage of giving you control over the different layers when in Premiere.
Thank you Rick! It may be basic to you but for those of us who have only dabbled a bit with green screen it was quite an insight. For example, I would have never considered the foreground layer. Another great video Rick. I'm glad I asked.
thants rick, i know i am one of the people who asked you about this and this helped alot. Im going to try and do this and post as a video responce or something after i get the stuff, it might be a while but ill try and do it. Again thatnks alot helped me.
I'd never pay that kind of cash for a bit of software. I use Photoshop Elements - it's like the main program only less complicated and costs about £30
