  • dude it sucks that this guys dead, r.i.p. man you rock

  • well you can't blame them it is a low budget anime and live action

  • dude.. smart review.

  • i miss this guy man

  • the anime was a great thing to experience. It's sad to hear that the movie itself was pretty substandard. But look on the bright site, an american Production would likely of done it worse despite higher production values.

  • I finally got to check this one out. Swan's review was right on the mark.

  • Its mawnga.

  • good review.... ill have to watch the ne me...

  • Hi Sawn than you for scary me with your face

  • i did not no it was a movie. (O.O)

  • boogiepop=character from video game

  • havent seen the anime yet but first saw the trailer on the ps3's psn video store and looked interesting. yeah a late find lol

  • do u have 2 watch this movie to understand the anime

  • not really. it fills in a few plot points, but really only for the hardcore fans. The anime is fine on its own. (but knowledge of the movies and the original books adds some added fan service for the viewer)

  • @badazz5001 Well I watched the anime first since the movie had not been out yet. For me the movie just clarified things from the anime.

  • aww i love the anime Boogiepop.. too bad Japan has bad special effects.. I think.. the movie would probably ruin it for me..

  • yeah it kind of ruined it for me. but japan dont have bad effects but there is some movie company that really suck at effects so i quess this movie is made by one of those companies.

  • What the name of the second song btw?

  • Swan I agree with a lot of what you said. The non-linear approach is popular in Japan. I got used to it, but your right, the westen world dosn't like that style. Pulp Fiction was the closest we can go to it. I liked it still and agree that it needs to be watched more than once to be taken in fully.

If people can make it to the last third of the film, it picks up a lot. They should have put more action or weird scenes in at the first half though.

  • We've done it and surpassed it, Memento is case and point.

It's that the crossing over points in the movie are dull and near pointless. The starting/ending handshake gave more of a look back than a link.

To be honest I enjoyed the start better, the better actors with the most explained/interesting story happening. Even till Echoes part but Satomoe's part is where it's really vague and boring for me. WTF did she see in him anyway :S

Great story and such but badly executed.

  • i'm a big anime fan but i'm not a fan of movies of anime's. anytime i try to watch a film of an anime or a real to life drama series of an anime or manga i get bored or the series has completely changed the storyline of the anime. like absolute boyfriend, the manga was about students but the real life tv series wasn't and the ending was ruined. they should've made it into an anime instead. but i'll have to check out the anime of this^^

    great review^^

  • Great teacher onizuka turned out pretty decent as a live action. If you liked the anime i suggest giving this live action a shot, just might change your mind about live action movies....

  • yeah true but hana yori dango turned out better than the manga (my opition) and uzumaki was pretty sasfitying but not very good as manga and i was pretty disappointed that they havent make uzumaki an anime series.

  • i guess so, but they ruined higurashi. the anime was the most awesome anime known to earth (that and Hellsing Ultimate) but the film ruined it completely , and i was really looking forward to it. but i must admit , some real-life dramas are ok^^

  • i wanna see this movie so badly

  • Love the anime, i watched the first 10 minutes of this and switched off, eventually i'll probably watch it.

  • wow exactly same me. I just switch it off right away after first part (around 15 mins)

  • Just like Uzumaki. Great series, horrible movie.

  • Meh, I thought the movie was okay, but the Uzumaki manga was outstanding!

  • yeah! but i really like the movie although the effects suck badly.

  • Nope. have to disagree,It is a horror movie for preteens. Just your average j-drama that went on to long, but it was still good.

  • I have been avoiding watching the movie simply because I could tell I was going to be disappointed. I am a huge fan of the anime and a bigger fan of the novel series. Good review. I still want to try and watch the movie though; if anything Nagi's appearance will hopefully make my experience better.

  • rodger.. seriously.. u make my day, ur videos is the shit, i look forward to see more of it. thank you so much<3^_________________*

  • dude u rule

  • good review. i couldn't have said it better myself. I love the anime, too, but this movie was just bad.

  • Definitely NOT a horror film. I consider the anime a J-horror and this movie a slow-moving drama with some could-be-monsters in it.

Good review. I agree completely about the franchise in general and this movie.

  • this was a horror movie? well i remember the part where the girl licked the other girl's eyeball was pretty horrific to watch lol.. my friend randomly had me watch this movie with her.. cuz she's kinda into anime.. i'm not but it was kinda interesting to watch a weird ass movie

  • I prefer the anime, its so cool I remember the first time I saw all the series my head hurt, lol.

  • I totally agree, great series, awful movie.

  • I'm hugely afraid of horror films, so everyone told me boogiepop phantom was amazing. So I had to try it out. Completely confusing and lost me alot but I actually enjoyed it one of the first horror I can actually watch. (If the lights are on and its daytime, lol.)

  • I got interested it the anime, yet at the end I felt like I was left hanging, so I started to read the books. I watched the anime through again I it was much more enjoyable; I had a sence of what was going on. The franchise in general has opened my mind to the world around me. I started with it when I was only 13 and it helped me mature among fellow students, and now I am working on a book at a very early age. I reccomend the entire franchise to anyone wanting to expand their concience.

  • glad to find another boogiepop fan. I think the anime and the books are pure pieces of finely crafted art, and i totally agree with you. I finally found a shop here that sells the original japanese books, so i'm hoping once my japanese improves from all this studying i'll be able to read them in their original text one day!

  • good luck with that , I wish i will able to read Japanese too someday because being already bi-lingual (i speak arabic) and reading Arabic novels and finding some of them in English it just isn't the same. the bulk of the story is there but there still is quite a difference. I've only actually watched one boogiepop anime episode and that was with the anime society at my university , needless to say I found it kind of confusing but I think I'll def check it out again since you say its so cool.

  • I though it was good the anime is better but it still is good.

  • i love the Anime!!!!...im the biggest fan of anime ever!!!

  • excellent, yeah that is probably my single most favorite anime ever. 'you'll never be young twice' being my favorite episode haha.

  • had no idea this was horror.

  • yeah, it's really light horror, but it's something different I suppose so no harm in raising some awareness for it.

  • Arigatô Rodger-san for making this interesting "Boogiepop" review. I've never saw the anime series for this Boogiepop franchise so I have to watch them first. I'm still curious about this movie. :S

    Sayonara!!!

  • ahh, yeah the boogiepop phantom anime series is brilliant, possibly the finest anime ever crafted, and once you finish it you will want to watch it again and again. I think going into this movie with the anime already viewed makes this a better film to watch.

  • Hi Rodger, again nice review. I know a bit of the Boogiepop franchise, but I better stay away of that movie.

I recently watched Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Seance of 2000 and was pretty impressed by the VERY subtle and slow horror and the great story (imo almost like a Dostoljewsky novel), I guess you know it too, how about a review of that movie?

  • ahh thanks! i actually have not seen Seance, but it is on my list of movies to get. Kiyoshi Kurosawa is great though, I enjoy a lot of his films. Bright Future isn't a horror one, but I think it's my favorite film of his.

  • Wow I have to see that

  • hello again, all I've really seen of boogiepop is the first ep of the anime years back I have those seven seas books in my store but with so much to read I just haven't got around to them but I might just have to get the anime to see what its like great vid very informative as usual.
