You don't really know much about the history of the oil industry...the oil driller always gets alarge % of the oil profits because most holes drilled are dry holes.

Mossadeq wasn't as popular as you think...or the Iranian people would have taken to the streets to support him...they did not support him.

And what are you talking about, they did. After Mossadeq left, he went back to office because of the Shah's bend to popular opinion. Many did take to the streets, just for CIA payed-off agents to go to violent intimidation. And after he was overthrown, many of his supporters along with many other political opponents were executed thanks to the CIA trained SAVAK.

It's not as simple as you think.

Where was the CIA in 1978-79 when the Shah was having problems?

Where was the CIA in 1959 when Bautista had problems in Cuba?

Where was the CIA in 1979 when Somoza had problems in Nicaragua?

The CIA was like the KGB..they could try to support certain candidates ..but ultimately it was the people who chose who they wanted.

And that's because the CIA underestimated some of the people, in fact Carter even said he thought the Shah could handle himself, but underestimated the hatred that was against him.

Compensation was a big issue for the British but far more because it was Britain's main source of oil at the time. But what Iran was trying to do and was well within the law. Every country has the right to nationalise its own natural resources and protect its resources from foreign exploitation. Of course if Britain wasn't cheating them out of royalties (Which is very well documented.) and had accepted Iran's 50/50 offer then Iran may never have moved to nationalise its oil in the first place.
