I wonder who they would have gotten if they made it in the 50s. Natalie Wood comes to mind, but she was still too young. Jane Russell? Elizabeth Taylor?
i can look past dick van dykes accent in this movie. he made bert what he was. and this movie will always be one of the best films and will go on and on for years to come. id love to see this in london on Broadway :)
The heart of the Disney verson is a father who had become so obessessed with his job and impressing his bosses and a mother who is so involved in the suffreget movement that they've neglegitced their children. In the end all the kids really wanted was their parents to spend more time with them and at the end they see that the love and respect of their children means more then anything else
The Author PL Travers never married but adopted a young boy from Ireland when she was 40. She seperated him from his twin Brother, refusing to take both, but they were successfuly reunited after the old women's death.
I wanna be Mary Poppins... Julie Andrews was excellent and looked like Mary P should have looked. Dick van Dyke, however, is another story. They should have definitely picked a 'Cockney'... he ruined it with that stupid accent!
i dont care that his accent was horrible (even tho it truly was) dick van dyke made his character halirious. i cannot imagine anyone else in that role ;)
@blckbooty Aww, I'm sorry. You're right of course. It still was a great movie and now, I can't imagine anyone else in the role, either! Hee hee... I saw the stage musical in London and later in Cardiff and it was SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!!! The cast was amazing and the director/producer, Cameron Mackintosh, did Mary Poppins credit. The real Mary Poppins, that is. Not the Disney version... I urge you to get the books and read them. They are awesome! Love, Jay xx

I literally thought Julie Andrews was an angel when I was younger. Now I know she's actually human, but she is still my idol.
