I've heard a lot of music. Black Sabbath is bar none the best in music. It really is an elegant design: simple catchy heavy riffs, bluesy/jazzy influence, tony's amazing solos, ozzy's crazy voice. It's the perfect storm. Their music is still unsurpassed to this day. Zeppelin & Purple get credit for inventing HM - how? never in their careers did they ever come close to Sabbath's riffage or style. & no matter how much metal evolved thruout the decades, Black Sabbath are still kings of metal period
@909damianblood why did Rolling Stone call Zeppelin the "hardest band ever"? I didn't understand that... Zep's virtuosity and sheer diversity are awe-striking, but they dont' really have too many hard songs... I don't know when this quote was said (maybe right when Zep came out and at that time it maybe seemed really fucking hard lol)
@diamondback604 Because RS is the original TROLL and only exsists to make $ and create controversy. If they printed the truth they'd be telling us what we already know and that is Black Fucking Sabbath are THE masters of reality. Not to take anything away from Zep but RS knows who reads their $h!trag.
pop music means a lot of shit. to some (classical music heads) it just means a beat marking 4/4 time throughout a song (not a musician, pls don't anally rape this statement)
I have loved Black Sabbath since I was 12 (1972) and listening to my sister's boyfriend's cassttes of 'MOR' and 'Vol 4.' I have to say, though, that it just about broke my heart to see Ozzy at a banquet with America's latest war pig, George W. Bush. Has he ever commented on that?
Sabbath does Sci-Fi! Yet, the future that they sing of in this gem was and is grounded in a very real fear that we may be doing more damage to Earth than we care to acknowledge. Listening to this album in one sitting is like entering a black velvet womb and being shown a preview of all the horror (and hope) of the world . Anyway, that's the way this album's always made me feel. This to me is Sabbaths' deepest album.
@maximadog Dude, easily Sabbath's best album ever. Some may put it down for having "softer" lyrics, but metal doesn't have to be all gore and pessimism. It's heaviest when it actually says some real shit. They wrote powerful lyrics based around peace and understanding, but added very dark undertones to accommodate their music while still keeping the message intact. FUCKING HEAVY!!!!
They really ARE the best band ever. They started it all. Everything before that was pussy hippy shit. There would not be a Pantera, a Metallica, an Iron Maiden, etc.....without Sabbath. Amen.
@bubbleheadft --Master of Reality is the heaviest Sabbath album. This is album influenced all of the death and modern metal artists. It was the first time Iommi tuned down a step and a half. Sabbath is the ultimate progressive heavy rock band.
Want to sound good? Turn off all your guitar pedals, turn off your "anti suck buttons", plug in, crank it up, and sing into the frigging microphone. What was this...eight track?
I awaited this album after the Paranoid release. Quite frankly I was disappointed upon the first listen. But...then, after multiple listens I knew that Black Sabbath carved what we now associate as being " heavy metal."

What? this was not acid rock "back in the day", cream, doors, the dead- I am lucky enough to have seen them all live-when they were all at the top of their game, that's acid music. Sabbath started the genre of heavy metal no question. Sabbath is nothing but blow your fucking head off, head banging, rock your balls off music. @RIFLEMEN1234 Screamo shit sucks man. About 4 years ago, or maybe 5, when I was in 9th grade, that was the shit. Too simple-minded, too mainstream. It blows. I love The Doors, Type O, BLS, Ozzy, AiC etc. Forget about the mainstream man, listen to what you love. Many who listen to mainstream rap, pop, screamo, rock just try to fit in with their friends, as I was once in that position. so what if the bieber fans wont become metalheads its their loss
judging by the millions of fans that love metal we dont need them
we dont need new fake metallica fans who will revive the deth metallica fued
we dont need to educate more people about metal history
we dont need more people going who is black sabbath
all we need to do is keep togehter and hold our own
