No this is the mid 1980s. Some people standing by the Rail Corridor observing the train passing were freinds of ours. They Lived in Paeroa 83-87. We used to go down to Paeroa regulary in a cresta. Then the family upgraded to a hillman hunter station wagon around 1985. Pity about the Thames Branch. Lets hope some enterprising locals push for its restoration as the trackbed is still there, Paeroa is such a cool town it deserves a rail link.
Wow what a blast from the past I grew up afew houses away from paeroa train station in Davies st. The whole yard was my play ground as my dad worked for the rail roads which started laying off its workers around 1983 onwards. thanks for this vidio!!!
It's older than 1986. Look at the cars that are stopped at the crossing. They're old 60's types like Humbers and Vauxhalls. This is great to see. Shame they pulled the tracks up. Bet they are regretting it now. They could have used these lines. There is some talk of them being re-instated. They could still do it - the track bed is still all there.
That's what I thought too. But this is one of a series of videos of the same journey. The last one, departing Thames shows a VK Commodore (84-86) and the DBR locomotive.
Gosh, it is difficult to date it accurately. I suppose mid-80s is the best we can guess. I did try messaging the poster of this video as I'd really like an original copy of it, but so far had no reply.
I'm not exactly sure which year, but I think it was September 1986 - but would have to check that out. It was videoed by a friend, who gave me a copy at the time. With the interest in ghost railways, and with the blessing of the original cameraman, decided to put it on here for those who are interested.
