  • Who are they? I recognize Glinda's voice but I'm not sure who she is....

  • @WinkeyInvasion That is the amazing Annaleigh Ashford! i love her so much and Elphaba is Dee Roscioli. they are great together

  • who's are playing glinda & elphie? Elphie looks like Eden, but can't be sure. Whoever it is she's good. I like her too.

  • my friend told me to come to this song because it meant so much to her . . . it made me cry :") I'm gonna miss u so much marissa

  • I have never seen this play but why is the good witch singing to the green witch?

  • God I sure hope some dyke shit happens in the actual musical because it is hard to imagine so many people have gone ape shit for just this trash.

  • @rober1236jua I think the last word(s) you meant to say was "genius of a musical."

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale No I meant for this uncreative, musically simplistic, dully stage, pre-teen garble or trash. I go to Operas that have stood the test of time for centuries, musicals written in the 1930s, this anal spew will hopefully be utterly forgotten but then the next hacked together abortion will profit upon the collapse of cultural quality in the west.

  • @rober1236jua If operas are your thing, then great. It isn't really fair to call this "musically simplistic," however. There are some very intricate and clever aspects to the music, and the fact that it's definitely "pop" doesn't disqualify it from being high quality music as well. Sometimes, such as in this particular song, simplicity is used for a reason. I'm sorry you're such a sad person and can't see the heart and the never-ending entertainment value of this musical.

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale The song is pounded full of so many music cliches it kind of embarrassing. Notice the way the female voices raise at the end of a phrase and sustain a single note? Ever hear that before? Go to a baseball game and listen to the national anthem sung, all the styles and gestures of the music are there. Actually probably a study of Glee would give enough musical understanding to know this piece. The pace is constant, the cord structure extremely conventional,

  • @rober1236jua Composers use common musical devices because they are effective, not because they are cliche. Like I said, sometimes you have to be able to recognize the beauty in simplicity, not just in intricacy and complexity. No one can deny that this really is a beautiful song. Other songs in this musical use a much more complicated chord structure, key and time signature changes, etc., but Schwartz obviously felt that simplicity served this moment best, and I would have to agree with him.

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale Composers do lots of things. What is most simplistic in this music is the emotional tone and the conventional cliches dredged up again and again. Actually this is the most complex song of the musical, complex in a mess with the two people some times singling over each other. Gravity uses a very mindlessly simple keyboard structure. Song sifts predictably between major and minor keys to stress emotion in a conventional way. This is simplistic if not always simple

  • @rober1236jua Well, clearly we disagree. I think there is an art to convincing simplicity, and for me, this IS convincing simplicity. I think it works. The point of the music in Wicked is not to be so complex that it loses all emotional impact with its audience, unlike some operas that I've heard. This song has some beautiful poetry in it as well, which is even more poignant if you know the play and the characters. Schwartz didn't chose the phrases randomly, or just because they rhymed.

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale What emotional impact? The blonde bimbo and unpopular green witch make up, the unpopular green witch feels confident at the end? I mean go read through the lyrics I've heard it said

That people come into our lives for a reason

    Bringing something we must learn

    And we are led

To those who help us most to grow

    If we let them

And we help them in return

Trite Pop-Psychology, the kind crape day time talk shows are pushing set to dull music. Wicked marked the end of Musicals

  • @rober1236jua Well isn't that set of lyrics simply true? I believe that. But I was talking about the later part, "Like a comet pulled from orbit, as it passes a sun, Like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood..." Or "Like a ship blown from its mooring by a wind of the sea, Like a seed dropped by a sky bird in a distant wood...." I think the poetry is not only beautiful, but is meaningful and specific to the characters. I think Wicked marks new life for musicals.

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale That is just trite drivel, there is no common theme to the metaphors. Comets, streams, ships, seeds, it all is meaningless. It all lacks any discipline or focus. What is the emotional meaning of the song. If you listen to this song you have no idea what the relationship involves, the selection of comets, streams, birds and boats shows clearly that no thought was given to them. Probably a collection of metaphors for lost just sitting around the writers had purchased before

  • @rober1236jua You call it trite drivel because you obviously know little about the characters. The metaphors that Glinda uses imply someone who is following a chosen path in life with determination but then meets someone else who changes their course for the rest of their life. Both of Elphaba's metaphors describe someone who is safely inside their comfort zone but is forced into an unfamiliar situation, and grows because of it. Each metaphor applies specifically to the character who uses it.

  • @rober1236jua Really, and this is described with a boulder, a stream, a ship, a seed, a bird and a comet. Hey but wood rhymes with wood. Look, trust me on this one. In 20 years time no one will be doing Wicked. It will be forgotten in almost no time. The music is really bad, the words are silly, and it simply does not hold up to some of the great 20th Century musicals. Its trite silly stupid effort to just regurgitate the the Wizard of Oz formula for another run.

  • @rober1236jua

I don't know what musicals you've been watching recently, but Wicked is not the end of them. It is only the beginning. You are the first person I've met who hasn't loved the musical. The characters are compelling and truly make you fall in love with them. This song made me cry the first time I heard it, as did many other people I know. This song has been played at many graduations, goodbye parties etc. That doesn't sound like meaningless lyrics to me.

  • @TheKitkat3

Also, I listened to some of the songs you posted down there, and yes they are everything you say they are.

  • @TheKitkat3 If you have never meet anyone who didn't love Wicked you have never meet a professional arts and music critic. Here in London they overwhelmingly panned it. As for Musicals I have seen recently: An American in Paris, Porgy and Bess, South Pacific, Les Mis, On the Town, West Side Story, Chicago, Jerry Springer the Opera (a work of near genius) along with a number of Operas both modern and Classical including Wagner's Ring, 4 Operas of Mozart, & various others

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale Schwart obviously felt a trite silly story and idiotic lines like "but then I guess we know there's blame to share", I mean this is like farts. Look at a line from South Pacific

    "You've got to be taught

    To hate and fear,

    You've got to be taught

    From year to year,

    It's got to be drummed

    In your dear little ear"

Simple, but it is simplicity used to a purpose, to illustrate the nature of racism which opens ppls eyes to there own lives! Look up the word catharsis in art

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale watch?v=kP5O_NUhrK0 is from Porgy and Bess, this is brilliant, it uses changes in tempo moving from Jazz and Swing to African spiritual, the words make brilliant clever references to African experience with the Bible. While being complex and full of historical references to the experience of blacks in America the song remains fun and catchy even. I challenge you not to hum it. This is greatness.

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale watch?v=g4cqTBA6L44 from South Pacific is one of first Musical songs I really loved. The song plays between the simple melody like a children's song, and yet the gets slightly more edgy, exposing the violent hatred of racism. When I heard this song in High School I remember thinking 'that is precisely how racism works' and yet despite being deep South Pacific still pulls a massive crowd.

  • @ProudSpeakerofWhale watch?v=3NLJ4hq0Sg0 from Carousel is a very fun song. Notice the audience laughing at it. Not only does the song move through clever changes of tempo, tone, and content but you really experience the drama of a man who has learned he is about to become a father, and the emotional intensity of the father daughter relationship. I mean this song is almost a Freudian analysis of fatherhood issue, yet one that is fun and catchy. These are brilliant Musicals.

  • i had to do a concert about this

  • Lucky duck i really really really wanna go to new york & see wicked on broadway but i wish i could see the kristen chenoweth & idina menzel version

  • @Caitlebug I'm with you there. You fundraise for the trip and hosting and I'll deal with the tickets :)

  • @123millburn It's just like in Romeo and Juliet regarding the wedding scene-it is never seen by the audience because it is not the central focus of the play. Dorothy is never seen in this musical either for the exact same reason. If she is seen, it draws attention away from Glinda and Elphaba's friendship and emotional character. Very creative in my perspective.

  • wow! That song was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful! Great performance guys!

  • so much freakin emotion

  • was this annaleigh's last show??? She is crying to much it keeps her from singing~

  • @chillpillgirl28 I believe this was the last show for Chicago, so the last for both of them.

  • @123millburn I think it was because Glinda was supposed to be hiding behind the screen. If they would have done it without the scrim then she wouldn't have been able to hide. Just my thought. I agree though, it would have been really cool if you could have actually seen her melt.

  • is the sniffling other people crying?

  • @25823666 yes i was actualy sitting next to this filmer excuse my crying

  • @25823666 I think it is a combination of the audience and the cast members

  • dude, these girls are totally great. If I was there, I would rush backstage to tell them how wonderful they were

  • Wow, I just freaking cried, that was really good :'c

  • Comment removed

  • @Theatreismylife787 If you look up Dee Roscioli you will know how an amazing singer she is. It was the closing night of the production so their last together and for Annaleigh (Glinda) her last in Wicked, thats why, because she was trying not to cry.

  • Comment removed

  • I prefer Idina and Kristin

  • My favorite cast of all!!!

  • why is she crying? It made the song much more real in my opinion

  • @ImCalebRosengard shes cryin cause that particular performance was the last one for all of them together.

  • @ImCalebRosengard shes cryin cause that particular performance was the last one for all of them together. and that song had a special meaning, not just for the musical, but it was real for them as people

  • @TheOriginalLilBitt Thank you =), now I really love this way more... and I'm sad for not being able to watch this.

  • Me and my friend sang this at our Leavers service, it was the first song we did as a duet three years ago and we've been mega close ever since. It kinda became our anthem, and everyone cried when we sang it at the assembly. It's just such a perfect song. I would love it if you could take a listen. Serach Molly Austen and Esme Kendrick For Good.

  • Aww poor Annaleigh. This song is so sad:(

  • DC just closed last nite.........never will be the same.....WICKED

  • Well that completely melted me....just look at poor, cute little Annaleigh's face when she finishes the first verse and while Dee is singing the second! She's practically sobbing. OH THIS PLAY!! It will be the death of me.

  • aww they both cracked at the same time! <3

  • i loved this so much!!! though i will say the singing ( this is the london version cast right?) here is soooo much different from the australian and american version.

  • @sweenett101 This is the Chicago cast not London :P

  • dee will be Elphaba on the tour again! :)

  • can someone tell me the cast? :P

  • @nicolemar196 Its the Chicago cast. Annaleigh Ashford is Glinda. Elphaba is Dee rosciolo. Dee has played elphaba more than any other, on boradway, Chicago, San Francisco and now lead on the National Tour they are both amazing.

  • @MattManOhYeah thankyou :D

  • None of it seems to matter anyMOOOOORE!

    I love that. :)

  • I think they are awesome but i really prefer Kristin and Idina because I'm such of fan of them!! I just love them singing together - or not, whatever, i love them singing*-*

  • They truely are amazing, and I can relate to Glinda because of the shows that have a long run time that I have been in. Knowing that this show is your last with this cast as hers probobly is an awful feeling because you know that this could be the last time you see your cast mates that you truely have become like a family and its hard to get through the last song, so props to her for keeping the song moving

  • ATTENTION ALL WICKED LOVERS! Does anyone know of another video on the Internet that has Dee singing for good?? I dont care about who plays glinda, but I HAVE to hear dee singing this!!!

  • my friends can do this so amazingly its incredible

  • is this the blonde's last?

  • @jasonr1929 Its the closing night of the Chicago production.

  • Oh, I forgot bout that part..

  • the original women are much better

  • @KiRbOkInZ stop false praising the originals on a video that does not feature them. these women are just as talented and I actually prefer THEM over the OBC.

  • I cried....

  • I'm afraid of listening to any more Wicked songs. I'm running out of money on iTunes.

  • after seing the musical u hate dorothy

  • @jasonr1929 well, no not really, cause if you think about it...everyone was against elphie before dorthey came....dorthey was only going along with popular opinion...and had no idea as to why Elphie was mad at her! All dorthey did was wear the shoes...that being said...u do see dorthey as the peron in the wrong to an extent

  • @markbuell99 Elphie was mad at her for 'killing her sister' (Nessa), if you see the movie you can tell dorothy knew that

  • I love their little giggle. I still cry watching this. It's that laugh and hug that always gets me.

  • kristen chenoweth and indina menzal are sooooo much better

  • Annaleigh Ashford and Dee Roscioli, man what a great musical pair they also made

  • Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, ohh man what a great musical pair they made

  • I cried at this song when I watched the musical and let me just say this video proves that every preformance was diffrent because this is very diffrent from what I saw

  • what was that the monkey gave Glinda the thing that was under the hat..?

  • @TheChucckk its a green elixir bottle. Elphaba keeps it because it was all she had left from her mother. and yes, it is significant to the storyline.

  • @Posiedonthewatergod i didnnt say it wasn't? :S i just havent been to see it yet, me and my boyfriend are going for my birthday :3

  • @TheChucckk i know you didnt say it wasnt but just in case you didnt see how it mattered. and thats good my boyfriend won tickets for us. great seats. and i hope you enjoy the musical it is a really good one.

  • @Posiedonthewatergod ohhh right okay.

    oh cool beans!

    thanks you too =3

  • omg glinda is played by the girl from legally blonde the musical! (not laura belle obviously, but one of the trio girls/understudy)

  • r u crying in the backround or is that some one else love this song singing it for y graduation and i have a lead part

  • Was this the final Chicago performance?

  • i say that all witches should get together and drop a house on dorthy but not her little dog too

  • my fav musical!!! thumbs up if u agree :)

  • Dude! Im about to cry!!

  • Aww poor annaleigh's stage emotions are being outnumbered by her real emotions

  • @Jellyapple67 i think thats the point

  • @Jellyapple67 its called acting

  • @Jellyapple67 they are both crying...I don;t think we are seeing any fake emotions here...I think these are their true feelings

  • I'd like to be Glinda or Elphie soemday :)

  • I saw this last night <3 <3 <3

  • @nbcmarchingband97 ITs the last performance of Wicked in Chicago IL.

  • @nbcmarchingband97 I think Annaleigh Ashford and Dee Roscioli

  • i saw this for a trip on school it was so good and great lighting and everything in the city it was awesome

  • Awwww ^^ im balling

  • oh my. Not such a good job at this. I feel bad for putting them down but this is awful

  • @YaelleG they are crying, what do u expect?

  • Stop crying & trying to be original. I couldn't watch the whole thing. Sorry.

  • @B2G2Show they're not trying to be original ... it was their final night. a lot of people cry on their last night during this song.

  • the song was ruined !!!!! becuz the girl kept snifling *snifle i heard it *snifle sed tht ppl coe for a reason *snifle lol annoying

  • @BABYjolie4eva It was both performers final night in the show and the final performance of the Chicago sit down production, so give them a break.

  • 22 ppl didn't change for the better.

  • is this broadway or the tour?

  • This song is so amazing. I love this musical, and I always feel so sad at the end

  • Such a beautiful song :') and such a sad ending!!

  • Haha @ Dorthy's shadow!!!

  • yeah my school sang this 4 the seniors and half the girls were crying and it wasnt that good but i mean it is really hard to cry and sing and cry so i think they both sound really good

  • green alpha is so much better!

  • So this was her last show right?

So that would mean that both the characters and the people where saying goodbye. Damn I'd be balling too!

(I mean I already cry every time I hear this song!)

  • man y dorthy.. i used to think the witch was the bad guy but now...im cyring

  • 3:18-3:47 best part of the entire thing <3 <3

  • Nawwww the end makes me cry :(((( stupid dorothy

  • no i won't forget you glinda... i'll just threaten your munshkins

  • Annaleigh... She has made Galinda for me! Everyone else is a disappointment...

  • did they know she was going to die at this point?

  • @TheBlueMeadow So, then you don't know how it really ends, right?

  • @TheBlueMeadow no, before this glinda talks about how they're coming for elphie. then elphaba gets a note from fiyero with insrtuctions to fake her death (accordding to stephen schwartz) and to tell glinda he's dead. it's an escape plan. by then there is the famous rumor she will melt so they use that as the death faking part. elphaba decides it's time to surrender but makes sure glinda wont clear her name, then it's obvious that elphaba might get killed fighting the crowd, then the song starts.

  • @harrypotterwicked and you just totally negated your entire argument with that closing statement

  • I love it. I want see wicked in english, but maybe its impossible because im finnish. I have seen it in finnish.

  • awww, soo cute when she kisses her hand at 3:38

  • awwww 3:44

  • i cried the very first time i saw this video

  • awhh 3:44

  • y were they cryin

  • @ItHappensToAllOfUs it was the woman who played glinda's last show.

  • @raimundough so y werre they crying?

  • I Saw This Last Night,At Londons Opolo Victoria Theater!

It Was Amazing, its my favirate musical ever! I love it..
