Where im at the harley costs more. Wanted the 883 when it came out just looked cool. Its smaller in person and it is not comfortable at all. It rattles and vibrates alot. Not much power. Gas tank is tiny. The honda looks good but bland compared to the harley. But the honda is way more comfy and rides smoother. Its bigger and looks beefier than the iron. Has a bigger gas tank and is more refined. Both are short in the power dep for the amount of money they want. Got an m109r. This bike is beefy.
No matter how the Japanese try it will never be a Harley. Even tho they go, stop, handle better than a Harley they just don't cut it. And as for chick pulling power the Harley wins hands down

being 1.90 m tall I sat on an 883 for a test ride and it felt like a gorilla on a spring horse at the playground...switched to a Fatboy and it was much better although I still prefer my Vulcan. The engine heat was unbearable and it was last April, rather cold ambient temp. Air cooled Harleys are not my choice for a summer day ride.
It's so funny people on here comment about how they would take the Honda because it is more reliable than the piece of shit Harley ... Guess these people never rode both these bikes like I have ... Honda makes great machines but between these two the Harley takes it hands down !
well im sorry folks, im a fan of both companies but i honestly agree with the harley, honda makes fantastic sport bikes but harleys been making street bikes its whole existence, i havent rode yet but im praying for the perfect bike and soon and the iron seems to be what works right (i wanted this harley before i watched the video, i had only recently heard about the shadow and wanted to hear more about it, judging that its a honda and i hear their so good)
As an Australian, we have number plates similar to the USA. A Harley with English plates just looks wrong. British bikes look good with ur natural plates tho. I suppose theres nuthin you can do about ur plates but they sure are big ass plates. U guys should try and lobby ur govt for smaller plates, i would. Having said all that tho, my 106 Cube Victory Jackpot beats both bike down in every catigory. Victory in my opinion are the best cruisers ever made, especially from the USA. My opinion tho.
Now there's a no brainer. On sound alone, Honda's putt putt putt is absolutely the very worst of ANY bike. Almost sounds like a single cylinder. It's a different story if we were to talk dependability. You can't beat water cooled, shaft drive.
Well...because i have the 2011 Honda Shadow Phantom, I'm going to have to say that I LOVE this bike. It is an amazing and very comfortable ride with plenty of power. I recommend this bike to anyone. Go Honda!

For a 6000 pound bike the HD 883 is on the heavy side. Did you mean price ? Ether way the Honda is ugly & the 883 rite behind. The 883 only makes 50 HP & it's 883cc. Why does a H-750 only make 45 HP. My Vulcan EN500 makes 49+ HP and it's way lighter. The Honda is a better bike in most areas. Yet you rate these bikes in a way it's a joke, Like the HD has nice signals & the NAME makes it the winner, Because it's coolness factor. I would buy nether bike, Just for a name & nice lights. I'd like to go with a Harley but hondas sell for about 3000 Dallers used here in Los Angeles and Harleys are still 9 grand, ima buy a nice 2001 shadow as my beginners bike then move up to a nice Harley like that one when I get a job :) I'm berly 18 :D

Times where Harley produced bikes that were technicaly inferiour to rice bikes is long gone.The time you had to screw everything back in after 300 miles is def over. If it comes to customs there is nothing that comes close to a Harley. If you want a real tourer or sports bike...I'd say the rule still counts that Japcans are alot better. Sportster XR 1200 X still pretty much is technicaly inferiour, less fun to ride and ALOT more expensive then lets say a Z1000X or a CB1000R.

@vivanksnice yes they make excellent first bikes cause you will learn ALOT about fixing it very soon and often. cause you will quickly get tired of paying harley mechanics. so the sportster is a very great choice. if you would choose the honda you would only learn how to ride and ride and ride, and wouldnt get all the mechanic skills. great choice. besides a name and final belt or chain drive just about same bike, but with honda you get lil more comfort and reliability,

I own that H-D and LOVE it; however, I was inches away from buying the Honda Shadow Phantom (not the Spirit in this video, but very similar). My point is, while I have NOTHING bad to say about the H-D and recommend it 100%, Honda DOES make GREAT bikes too. If you want a Standard bike that's air cooled - go H-D. If you want a cruiser that's liquid cooled - go Honda. Either way, you can't go wrong. Good video/review.
I have an American version of the Iron 883, and I like it a lot. The version here looks a little odd with that big honking license plate behind the rear wheel. I think it detracts from the overall look. It would look cooler if it was to the left of the wheel. I don't understand why they changed it for Europe? As for the Harley haters - I've owned a 1976 KZ 900 and a 1985 FJ1100 in addition to the Iron 883. They are all fine bikes, they are just different.

@viggoM35 ive been riding for over 45 years, theres not much you can tell me about motorcycles, experience is better than all the research you can do i have had them all, and i know for a fact the more you pay, the more they will resale for, the less you pay, the less they will resale for. harley, honda, suzuki yamaha or whatever. unless you buy a "special editon model" they all depreciate the same..there are just too many bikes on the road today for anything to increase in value
@mrrandysgt what really needs to be done with motorcycle manufacturers is a fucking drop in price. Alot of them are more expensive than ever. Back in the 70's you could buy a CB750 cheap as hell. it was 8,956 back in the day (todays currency) Well i guess i'm wrong. You actually get even more bang for the buck now on a modern honda machine. Since now they are liquid cooled, Fuel injection, better breaks.etc. God damn they really did set the standard for the industry.

No bike comes out of the factory with soul. The soul comes when the rider makes the bike their own. I own two Honda Shadows (1 Spirit and 1 Aero) and they both have plenty of soul.
I think it was a fair comparison they are competing for the same market and alot of people who are thinking about buying one should see them side by side in a comparison so good job on the vid!
I love all bikes, having ridden quite a few Jap cruisers I would say without a doubt that there is a HUGE difference between them, nothing bad, but just the way they ride and are built, the jap bikes are built for perfection, and to some extent they miss the point of the Harley I think, my Harleys brakes aint good and it sometimes rides like a pig, but I have gelled with that bike like I never could with my Jap cruisers, all niches of the bike market have cliches, just worry about what you want.

British people love and respect Japanese machinery, you'll struggle to find Harley lovers, they're quite a niche sector and hang out in bandana shops. I've been on both these bikes and the Honda is a smooth, well built bike. The Harley has an honest charm though, not as comfy and sophisticated maybe, but it's timeless and has a resonance with riders who see it as a good honest motorcycle.
Honda is built to last. HD is for attention seeking losers on anxiety medication. Their "technology" stopped improving in the 60's but it's dressed up with chrome to mask it's antique design. Ever notice how Buell never does well on the track? ..... Jap's know how to do it
hey guys, ive been thinking about getting a motorcycle. Ive never owned one, and have limited experience on them. After i take the motorcycle course, would the honda shadow be good for me? I would prefer a cruiser like it, because i really dont have a burning desire for speed. Can anyone offer me any advice about the shadow or becoming a motorcyclist in general? I mean anything helps! I've ridden both bikes and the Harley is simply a funner bike to ride. More punch and I personally prefer the over all feel. Just my opinion though and both are fine machines!

Times where Harley produced bikes that were technicaly inferiour to rice bikes is long gone.The time you had to screw everything back in after 300 miles is def over. If it comes to customs there is nothing that comes close to a Harley. If you want a real tourer or sports bike...I'd say the rule still counts that Japcans are alot better. Sportster XR 1200 X still pretty much is technicaly inferiour, less fun to ride and ALOT more expensive then lets say a Z1000X or a CB1000R.

I own that H-D and LOVE it; however, I was inches away from buying the Honda Shadow Phantom (not the Spirit in this video, but very similar). My point is, while I have NOTHING bad to say about the H-D and recommend it 100%, Honda DOES make GREAT bikes too. If you want a Standard bike that's air cooled - go H-D. If you want a cruiser that's liquid cooled - go Honda. Either way, you can't go wrong. Good video/review.

I have an American version of the Iron 883, and I like it a lot. The version here looks a little odd with that big honking license plate behind the rear wheel. I think it detracts from the overall look. It would look cooler if it was to the left of the wheel. I don't understand why they changed it for Europe? As for the Harley haters - I've owned a 1976 KZ 900 and a 1985 FJ1100 in addition to the Iron 883. They are all fine bikes, they are just different.

Back in the 70's you could buy a CB750 cheap as hell. it was 8,956 back in the day (todays currency) Well i guess i'm wrong. You actually get even more bang for the buck now on a modern honda machine. Since now they are liquid cooled, Fuel injection, better breaks.etc. God damn they really did set the standard for the industry.

I love all bikes, having ridden quite a few Jap cruisers I would say without a doubt that there is a HUGE difference between them, nothing bad, but just the way they ride and are built, the jap bikes are built for perfection, and to some extent they miss the point of the Harley I think, my Harleys brakes aint good and it sometimes rides like a pig, but I have gelled with that bike like I never could with my Jap cruisers, all niches of the bike market have cliches, just worry about what you want.

I've been on both these bikes and the Honda is a smooth, well built bike. The Harley has an honest charm though, not as comfy and sophisticated maybe, but it's timeless and has a resonance with riders who see it as a good honest motorcycle.

I've ridden both bikes and the Harley is simply a funner bike to ride. More punch and I personally prefer the over all feel. Just my opinion though and both are fine machines!
