@SwimChamp2be Thanks! We're rebuilding her as we speak and will shoot some much, much higher-quality video in a few weeks. Check back again, or subscribe!
@jonesy97 Baton Rouge was only the second Los Angeles class boat produced, so she was Flight I, with no bowplanes. Since this model is a dynamic-diver, though, we needed to add the bowplanes for control. The sailplanes on this model are only cosmetic; they're not controllable.
@jonesy97 The 688i has bow planes and the 688 has farewater planes (the ones on the sail) The virginia class has bow planes also. It's kinda confusing but you get the hang of it once you spend some time in the submarine fleet.
Looking for something about the Baton Rouge. My brother was a cook there. He is retired now, but remembers this ship and the Thomas C. Hart frigate fondly! Cheers!
Sorry, Mamasan -- I'm too young to have served on the "Red Stick;" in point of fact I was never in the military at all. Sorry I can't help you with that, but good luck in your search!
Glad you found the video! My Dad was the one who actually built the boat, and I did some of the fine detail work (the mostly non-visible draft marks, escape trunk markings, and periscope camoflauge). We knew the bow planes were going to be inaccurate to the first flight 688 boats, but we had to get the thing to dive somehow!
Thanks for the comment -- we'll try and throw up some more vids of the "Red Stick" soon.
THat is just awesome.

Is the Baton Rouge a 688i class? Does it really have the planes like that on the bow? I thought the LosAngeles class had the dive planes on the sail?

For a scratchbuilt model it's a pretty good one! Nothing wrong with dynamic diving here!

I was on the BR from 1981 to 1986. It had fairwater planes and not bow planes! Geez!
That must be one of them newer 688 boats.
Don't mind me. Just a picky old bubblehead cruising You Tube. ;-) Nice to see someone remember my old sub like that with a model.

If you're a real stickler for Naval accuracy.... ;-)
Have it do circles out in the bay until the crew gets it clean enough to pull in! LOL.
Ah..... The memories..... ;-)
